Chapter 1: Hitting the Brakes
Dr. Magnar Kanye, sighed as he went through some papers at his desk. His scheduled appendectomy had gone smoothly this morning. Magnar would be lying if he said juggling his human patients with his non- human patients. The centuries old Warlock had grown tired of how abused by the other creatures in their Fae world. So he decided to do something about it. During the day he was the Head chief at Ravenwood General Hospital. If it wasn't for the few other Fae beings that worked here to he would be able to hide among the humans so flawlessly.
He had to admit that there was something missing in his life. He had a werewolf companion that was bonded to him as his familiar. Even though he was bi s****l, Beau McDaniels wasn't his type. He'd had a male partner half a century ago, until Marcus had found his mate in a werecheetah.
There was a firm knock on his office door. As a man who was 6' 2" with messy dark brown hair, five o' clock shadow and deep green eyes came into the office.
"Hey, Boss you about ready to head home for the night?" The man asked as he addressed Magnar.
"Really, Dr. McDaniels are you forgetting that while we are at this hospital; it's Chief Kanye." Magnar said as he narrowed his dark eyes at the werewolf.
"Boss, Chief their the same thing to me. Like any human would be smart enough to pick up on it." Dr. McDaniels said as he dropped himself down in a chair in front of Magnar.
Magnar let out a tired sigh as he eyed his werewolf friend up and down.
"Beau, what are you planning? I am well aware of what that mischievous look on your face means. You have something up your sleeve." Magnar said to his familiar as he continued to stare at him. Before noticing the papers that were in his hands.
"What do you have there?" The Warlock Doctor asked his familiar.
"Applications for a Surrogate, you pick one of these lovey ladies to carry a baby for you. Before you say anything they think you you're a billionaire doctor. That is the human applicants do. The Fae applicants are aware of your true identity." The werewolf familiar said to his Warlock companion.
Beau took in the sour frown on his friends face.
"All I'm asking is that you look at them and give it a shot. If you can't find anyone who's appealing to you we'll forget about the whole thing." There was a pleading tone to his voice.
Magnar pinched the bridge of his nose before answering his horny and slightly difficult familiar.
"Fine, I'll look them over if it means you'll shut up about it all. But it in no way means I'm agreeing to any of this." Magnar said in a tired tone as he took the applications from his werewolf familiar.
As he flipped through applications from humans, pixies, nyhms and witches. He was about to throw the applications back at Beau. Until, he caught sight of the application in the middle. Of a beautiful brunette with purple highlights and stunning honey colored eyes.
She was a Warlock hybrid but she hadn't listed what other supernatural she was crossed with. There were red tabs all over the paper. Twelve to be exact. Where there had only been two others with a tab.
Magnar narrowed his eyes as he glanced over the paper at the werewolf in front of him.
"My guess is you've have a few favorites picked out." Magnar questioned his familiar.
"It's not that many, this one just really stuck out to me. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she's easy on the eyes." Beau McDaniels said looking at his friend.
Magnar looked down at the file in his hand once more. She was indeed beautiful, something about her spoke to him. He looked down at her name Dayanira E. Halliwell, even her name was beautiful.
Realizing where his thoughts were going Magnar closed the file and tried to change the subject.
"How about I buy us dinner tonight. We can celebrate in honor of what was going to come to us." Magnar suggested to his werewolf friend.
Beau gave him a smile in return.
"Sounds good to me as long as it's somewhere I can get a great steak. I swear one day you're going to meet your match and you'll see how great it really is." Beau warned Magnar.
"I eat meat, seafood is a meat. Salmon, is one of my favorites." Magnar said in his defense.
"I'm talking about nice red meat, brother. All the years I'll known you-have never eaten it." Beau countered him.
"You find someone who can cook better, then you, friend and you have a deal." Magnar said with a grin.
"I'm going to hold you to that, my friend." Beau bantered back as he and Magnar walked out of his office and out of the hospital toward the parking lot.
They drove of in the direction of the restaurant, to enjoy dinner together. Nothing, could prepare them for what was going to happen in the next three hours. Everything that was about to happen would alter their lives forever.
As Magnar was enjoying his grilled salmon fillet. Beau sat across from him digging into his medium rare steaks. He raised an eyebrow at the Warlock. Who had stiffen in his chair.
"Magnar, what's wrong?" Beau asked as his green eyes looked cautiously around the dinning room.
"I'm not sure, I just got this really bad feeling. I think we should go now." Magnar said as he looked around them. His eyes glowed a golden yellow as he released a little of his magick into the room. Most of the people here were humans, but he couldn't shake the feeling that they needed to leave.
Beau raised his hand at at waiter signaling for the check. Climbing into Magnar's silver 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan.
Beau climbed into the passenger's seat as Magnar started the engine and started to drive. An hour into the drive, Beau gave his friend a curious look, as he asked.
"Hey Bro, just where are we going?"
"I don't really know Beau. It's just this feeling I'm have we have to go this way." Magnar said as the continued to drive down the current country back road they were on.
Magnar hit the brakes hard as a figure burst out from the dense woods on the left side of the road. The figure froze as the headlights of the car hit them.
Once they had stopped the car, Magnar and Beau both realized that the figure was that of a young woman. There were cuts all over her face and arms.
