For the next few days Keenan thought about Charity often. However, when he received no notice she and her parents had returned to the shelter, or that they had called to enquire about the possibility of adopting Tripod, she faded from his consciousness. Then one morning a few weeks after Charity had been to the shelter on tour with her class, he was sitting at his desk making up the daily schedule when his phone rang. It was Penny. “Hey, Dr. Hunter, Sarah at the adoption center just called me. She says there’s a little girl here with her dad. Sarah said her name’s Charity, and she came to adopt Tripod. The little girl told Sarah you said it was okay with you. Do you know what she’s talking about?” Keenan smiled. “I do. Tell Sarah I’ll be right there.” “Uh…okay?” Penny replied skeptical
