Chapter3

The Agreement “Pretense wife?”, I asked, dumbfounded by what I just heard. Hearing it from someone else could be believable but Arch Nemesis, that’s far from it. “I need someone who challenges me and someone who can play the role of a wife. It’s just for my inheritance and that’s all. It’s a three-month contract nevertheless and no s*x attached if that’s what you’re thinking.”, He rolled up his hair in an attempt to entice me with his charms. “I only came to ask for a loan, anything other than that you can forget about it “, I scoffed. The thought of being his pretense wife was an impossible phenomenon. Even though he was charming and my reputation would grow that wouldn’t mean anything when the contract was terminated. “If that’s the case, then I can’t help you,” he slumped back, resting his back on the chair and gazing at the briefcase as his men locked them back. Suddenly, my phone rang. From the pop-up alarm, I could see it was Dabi, my secretary. Having a no-office call protocol except during emergencies meant she was calling for something absurd. “Fine, I’ll accept your proposal but on one condition, “, I declared as the case opened once more. “And what’s that, Rose? What will it be?”, he held up a smirk, ready to face whatever I was going to throw at him. “No strings attached to the pretense wife, meaning no caress or touch, and after that, we forget that all these ever happened cause I don’t want people thinking I’m entangled with someone as hideous as you.”, I said sturdy. “I don’t know about that. We’ll have to kiss in front of my parents to convince them that you’re not a friend and close contact and caress can’t be avoided. “, he pointed out. Kiss? To think my lips would be on those attractive lips of his was mind-blowing. They were so pink and fresh, maybe I could make them wet at some point. Caress? I’ve never been caressed before so maybe I could learn a thing or two also. “Fine, I accept”, I reached out to my bag, drew out a pen, and waited for him to hand over the contract. The terms were just as he said so I could easily maneuver my way into it. It was time to sign and the men had packed the briefcases, ready to move them for me after I signed it. “Nice writing. Guess you learned a thing or two from your company,” he placed his index finger on my lips before taking the contract away from my hands. “Accompany her home. Make sure she reaches home with the money safe and sound,” he added as I snatched the briefcase from the two men and headed out. Days had passed and Nicholas hadn’t contacted me. Not like it gave a damn, but the contract stated that I needed to be with him whenever he needed, which was such a pain in the ass. I had paid my debt and the workers I owed at the same time, leaving me with some millions, which I planned to go shopping with. “Rose, did you order a package?” Nova’s voice echoed as she walked in with a box. I was too exhausted to stand up and receive it from her, so she did what all junior sisters would do: check the contents. “Isn’t this a trending new Louis Vuitton dress with the Golden Belt premium edition attached to it?” Nova squealed as she got hold of the cloth. She was about to reveal another outfit when my eyes spotted a small note by the side. With full strength, I rushed towards the package, grabbing the note before Nova could lay her eyes on it. I hadn’t told her about the pretense of marriage yet; I was afraid I would be seen as a betrayal. “Just because you don’t want me to see the cost doesn’t mean I don’t know it. I’m a media presenter at a club, so I know the latest fashion wear and their prices,” Nova reckoned as she rummaged through the package. I opened the note, slowly reading the content to understand what exactly he wanted to achieve with those clothes. “Rose my arch nemesis. I know you wouldn’t be so kind; I told you we would be going shopping, so I decided to get the clothes myself. I know you have zero taste and fashion sense, so I decided to have the best fashion designers do that. We meet my parents at 5 tomorrow; don’t be late.” The words ended there, and a grin appeared on my face. “What a moron,” I whispered under my breath. The clothes were all beautiful and the best I’ve ever come across. From the tags, I was sure I wasn’t going to impose it on myself. Maybe my arch nemesis knows me more than I could ever expect. After checking out all the clothes, Nova succeeded in keeping 2 designer dresses for herself. She claimed it was to entice her new fiance into getting down with her, but I doubt that would work knowing how brutal Nova gets when it comes to intimacy. I hid the rest in a place she couldn’t find to make sure none went missing in the long run. Time went by and it was time for me to head out with Nicholas to meet his parents. I wasn’t emotionally prepared to see his father yet but I knew I would have to face him anytime soon. I wrapped myself in a towel after getting out of the shower and thought about how exactly I could get out of this so-called contract safely. It wasn’t going to end well no matter what happened, but it was worth a shot. I dressed up in one of the Louis Vuitton outfits, and as expected, it brought out the hidden beauty in me. My curves came out clean under the beautiful material, and my hair wrapped well along with it. I was about to take my leave when I suddenly saw my greatest nightmare come to pass. My mother was holding the note in her hands, reading each statement with disbelief. “Mom, I can explain.”.
