Prologue
Dahlia’s POV. The wedding hall was filled with a lot of well known people from over the continent as it was the wedding of the daughter of a very wealthy family. Hailey Otieno. Or it should have been. I took a deep breath as I walked down the aisle with my supposed Father, Dominic Otieno. Everyone turned and watched me with a smile on their faces. When I raised my head and glanced at the altar where my groom was waiting for me, a soft smile made its way to my lips. Right there stood the man of my dreams, Benjamin Martin. He wore a nice tailored suit that exuded his nice body build. His hair was slicked back and his eyes were filled with an intense affection as he gazed at me as I walked towards him. I got to him and kept my hands around his arm. “You are so beautiful,” he breathed. My smile widened and a blush crimsoned my cheek. But my smile dropped when I noticed the cold stare my supposed mother, Diana, was giving me. Diana sat at the front row of the pew. Her brown curly hair was styled in an elegant way and she was wearing a very expensive beautiful dress. She looked at me, but her eyes lacked any affection. If there was anything, she didn’t even want to be here. “Thanks,” I replied, trying to ignore my mother's cold attitude. “You also look handsome as usual.” We made our way to the altar and I sighted my sister sitting among the guests. She gave me a thumbs up and mouthed. “Relax sis, you got this!” I exhaled deeply and nodded in her direction. “Thanks,” I mouthed back at her. When Benjamin and I got to the altar, the priest stepped forward and carried on with the wedding procedure. He was still addressing the wedding guests when the door leading to the hall opened. A pretty woman in her late twenties rushed into the wedding hall, her chest heaving. She was also wearing a ravishing white wedding dress similar to mine. “Sorry, I’m late!” The pretty woman announced and tightened her hand around a bouquet of red roses. “My flight got delayed.” The moment I saw the woman who had just entered, the bouquet of white Lilies in my hand dropped on the tiled floor. I stepped back, my heart pounding in my chest. The woman looked almost exactly like me! And she was also wearing a wedding dress like mine! Immediately, I realized the woman must be the actual Hailey Otieno. Hailey Otieno was the real bride and I, Dahlia Torres, was the fake bride. No, I shook my head in disbelief. Hailey wasn’t meant to arrive at her wedding. This shouldn’t be happening right now. Not when I was this close to marrying her Fiancé. Hailey frowned as she looked at me. Her hazel eyes filled with confusion. This was her wedding, but I was the one standing at the altar with her groom. Hailey walked up to me and furrowed her brows. “Who are you?” She asked and observed the beautiful wedding dress that I was wearing. Her eyes lingered on my hands as I held on to Benjamin. “And why are you holding hands with my groom?! Why are you even wearing a wedding dress similar to mine?” Hailey arched her brow as she studied my face. “Why do you look so much like me?” Hailey frowned at a confused Benjamin. “Ben, what is going on here?!” Benjamin tightened his hand around mine. He narrowed his eyes on Hailey. “I should be the one asking you that,” He said. “You interrupted my wedding and you have the right to ask questions.” My throat stiffened. Benjamin was making a mistake. Hailey was his bride, not me. The whole room seemed to close in on me and I couldn’t breathe. I didn’t even dare to look at Benjamin. How will I tell him that I actually wasn’t the real daughter of the Otieno family. I was a fake. An imposter. Hailey’s frown deepened. “What?” She turned and looked at her mother, Diana. “Mom, what is going on?” Then, she pointed at me. “Why are you acting like you are me?” Everyone in the hall looked at the altar in confusion. “Hailey, I… I’m… I’m…” I stuttered. My mind was in a mess as I thought of how to answer Hailey’s questions. I looked around the wedding hall in panic. Although this was meant to be Hailey’s wedding, there were two brides standing at the altar. And I, Dahlia Torres, was an imposter who was pretending to be Hailey Otieno. You are probably wondering why all this was happening. Why I was an imposter. Why Hailey was late for her own wedding or why I was even marrying Hailey’s Fiancé in the first place. Well, this story goes way back and I will tell you how it began.
