FRAY
I opened my eyes and the unfamiliar surrounding met my gaze. I felt pain in my back as I slowly sat down on the grass where I was. The sun was high when I passed the scanned area. I was in the middle of a forest, because of the heavy rain the leaves on the trees were still wet. Actually even the grass I was lying on earlier was wet.
My whole body is aching especially my back.
I remembered what happened last night. I escaped from the Moonlight Paradise and now, I don't know how can I go back?
I bite my lower lip and mess my hair.
Why did I leave? I will not be able to fly back to the top, well for sure they will notice that I am missing and will look for them. But they will never consider finding me here, away from the Sanctuary. They would never think of looking for me here because first of all, what would a Celestial Angel do in the actual world for no reason? I am not a Guardian who will go up and up the sanctuary whenever I want.
How can I go back now?!
I slowly stood up and started to spread my wings. I felt the pain in one of my wings, when I turned slightly to look at it, I saw that its left part had been cut off.
Since I'm an immortal I don't need medicine to heal my wound. The wounds we have heal by ourselves. But in my case the damage in my left wing is fatal so I think it will cost a month before I can fly again.
I sighed heavily.
Now I regret everything. I was unlucky enough to run away, even more unlucky because I didn't know where I was. I see nothing but trees.
"The broken angel is awake, cool.."
My eyebrows met and looked for the person who spoke. I heard a rustling in the tree closest to me and from its high branch I saw the creature sitting there.
Dressed with a full black garment. I noticed a dark magic over his whole body.
It stood on the branch of the tree and effortlessly jumped towards me.
I stepped back and stared at him.
"Y-You.." I said.
I remembered him from the child yesterday.
"Me." He smiled playfully.
My eyes traveled down to his full black clothes. He gently swayed his head sideways that's why I saw his neck covered with a tattoo. A Devil tattoo.
"Are you done yet?" He asked. I looked up at his face again.
"You're the devil!" I screamed as if like it's the first time I saw a creature like him.
He rolls his eyes in annoyance. "And so? Is this your first time to see a Devil?"
My eyebrows meet. I've seen people like him for a long time, what does he think of me? What I want to say is why is he here in front of me? And talking to me?!
"Why are you talking to me?!" My voice comes out screaming.
His thick brows arched. "What the hell." He said in disbelief.
I sighed and grabbed the fabric of my clothes to start leaving.
"Never mind." I answered before giving him a rolling eyes and was about to turn away when he spoke again.
"I thought angels had manners, but the way you treated me screams like you didn't ask for my help last night." He laughed with a little bit of annoyance. I looked at him who's looking at me badly.
Me? Help?
We looked at each other as I looked at him. I suddenly remembered what happened last night. Well I asked for his help but I woke up and still here, so basically he didn't help me.
What else can I expect from him?
"What do you know about manners? You're a devil." I answered irritably.
He smiled as if like there's something amusing that I said.
"I'm a devil so aren't you surprised that I do know about that word."
My eyes keep darting to the smirk on his face. It's annoying because regardless of how the danger he can bring, he's still good looking.
Argh! What am I thinking?!
"If this is the help you're talking about then still thank you." I just answered to end the conversation.
He raised his eyebrows. "Uh-huh.."
I struggled before he completely abandoned him. I started walking. Where am I? Ever since I was a child, I have never been down here in the actual world. Full forest, chirping animals around and calm silence carried by the breeze.
This is so good.
My hands are clenched around my long white dress while walking. I looked back again and saw that the Devil I was talking to earlier was no longer there. It's good that he left. And me? Why am I even talking to him?
We are against creatures like him so I think that will be our first and last encounter. I don't want to increase my guilt just because I talked to him.
All I have to think about is how I can get out of this jungle.
MINUTES of walking and I still can't find a right place to rest. The sun is high but I'm still in the middle of the forest. It seems like this place has no end, if only I could fly I would have left here a while ago.
My feet hurt from walking so I sat down for a while under a big tree that I saw right away.
"Please, please! I'm begging. I'll do anything just bring my lover back! She died because of the evil of the Black Serpents! They killed the one I love!"
I was startled by a man's cry from somewhere. Without any hesitations I stood up and found where it's coming from. I walked some distance from where I was sitting earlier and from the middle of the forest, there was a teenager. My eyebrows met when I saw him kneeling in front of a floating creature.
That Devil again?
"Dealing with the Devil means your soul, I bet you already know that."
I stared at him floating in front of the man. He stared coldly at the person begging him. I can't see anything in his eyes but emptiness. It looks like he doesn't even feel sorry for the person in front of him.
It's not surprising that he shows it like that. He's born this way and a single emotion on his face won't change the fact of where he came from.
"I will, in exchange for my soul." The man bowed and wept silently.
"You're hopeless. If I resurrect the girl you love, how can you be with her? Are you thinking that in exchange of your life, she'll be happy? You're just making her life miserable when she saw this situation." He said coldly.
I stopped.
Is this how he will convince the person who begs him? He's insensitive and cruel. He only makes people suffer more.
"Just give me time. Let me be with her first. Please," The man begged.
"Whatever you want." He answered, he calmly put his hand in his pocket. For a moment, his body lit up with black power.
I could see how its black power flowed towards the man. His power went straight through the man's body until a pitch black chain appeared around his neck.
My lips flattened. That's the chain of death.
This confirms the agreement with the Devils. This means that your days on earth are numbered because at any time they can take your soul. Whenever they want.
I don't know what to feel when I see that the man's request has been fulfilled. He was happy as the girl he loved left with him.
The smile on their face. You said that everything is worthless.
"Why don't you show yourself?"
I sighed and walked closer to him. Some distance away I stopped and saw it floating in the air.
"Why do you need to grant someone's wish when in the end you'll just get their souls?" I will ask.
I look at him. The wind danced in his hair as its pure black power flowed through his body.
"Why do you care? You do this too, do you." He coldly replied.
"We're not the same. Picking up a soul is different from taking a soul." I rolled my eyes. "And you're just making the situation hard for them."
He looks at me, the corners or his mouth lifts up to create a smirk.
He slowly landed some distance from me. Now I can clearly see his deep black eyes.
"How can you say that? I'm just doing what people want. They knew what's in return when they make a deal with me. I'm a Devil not a saint like you, expect the worse." He shrugged off his shoulders.
"But you have the option! You can ignore what they want!" Instead I answered. He stared at me for a few seconds before laughing.
"For what? For you to get his soul? No way." He ran his fingers through his hair before brushing it off.
"Why do you have to kill them in return of their wishes. You're so cruel.." I mumbled.
He silently stared at me and moved an inch closer.
My hands clenched around the soft fabric of my dress when he successfully blocked my height.
"Because we're Devils..." he smirked. He looked me from head to toe before staring directly into my face again.
"A-And so if you're a devil?" I gulp. My tongue seemed to be stuck with the way he looked at me.
Why am I even shaking?
"And a Devil like me is living outside the world you used to be, just like what you said we're different. Reason enough for you to realize that you're in my territory. Means I'm tease to kill you right any moment."
