CHAPTER 3

I don't know if I was the first human on an alien spaceship. I wondered if my science fiction background helped or hindered my step into history. There were expectations, and they failed. Science-fiction is full of different types of space ships. There's the biological organic , the pristine and clean, and even the dirty 'used' future. I don't remember many with steams, tunnels and crystal. The smooth round walkways dripped onto soft glowing pools of water. Small lit Crystal's decorated the curved walls. Either provided light or some function I could only guess at. Several big men - pale, tanned and dark with purple hair stripes like Melk walked the hallways. Their violet eyes lingered on me. The intellectual side of my brain said it was interest. I'd look if I saw an alien and I was. Yet, I couldn't shake feeling like a piece of meat around a hungry dog. Having guys that hot look at me wouldn't normally be a bad thing but caution on a spaceship didn't seem reasonable . Not all men were as tall and built as Melk. There were several smaller men - yet still taller than i. Most had the physique of baseball players , or muscled bicyclist maybe. All damn cute and enough to make my pants uncomfortable . None had the purple stripe on their hair. "Who are the smaller ones?" I asked "The ones between my size and yours?'' He continued walking with long confident strides. His shoulders rose, and I got the feeling he searched for the proper definition. ''Soturi... Alpha like me are beginning. Our last ones are...Omega.Those men are...Dara... They are between ." I smiled at his choice to use of words. "Alpha, Omega... uh Beta?" He repeated my words. "It's the second letter in the alphabet." That was a broad explanation .Greek alphabet but I didn't want to get technical with aliens. "Not middles?" "Well... if Alpha is one. Omega is last. That would make them three. Beta would be two. That's in the middle of one and three.'' He let out a wondering murmur before he nodded. "Perhaps. ' Beta' are the people who provide most of the functions for our empire.'' His cheeks puffed out as he presumably thought . "Companions, scientists ... they created our society. Alphas protect what they build." "And those like me?" "Allow our society to continue . Not perish and forgotten." Gooseflesh rose in my arm. There was just something about how he said it that gave me chills. The last time I felt anything like that was when I stood on the cliff. I looked out towards the sea and the black rocks below. I told myself I was going to take three steps , and I knew it was the absolute truth. It was as sure as I knew my own name. I never felt anything with that certain sadness until now. We turned the corner and my eyes widened as I stepped into a futuristic medical laboratory - at least to me. The floor was grey metal and the ceiling emanated white light. Although, they kept the same brown stone walls. A silver robotic arm came down from the ceiling. In its many 'hands' and pincers were fine tools. Some were curved and sharp. Others looked like they contained needles . While others had small fine, grey blades. I swallowed hard and felt the burn in my throat. " Not exactly selling me on this idea you know?'' Under the sharp tools, was a flat metallic examination table. A gray spongy pillow was at the far end, while the other side had two long separations. Perhaps for leg? There were two other men in the examination ROOM. My gaze went to the young, muscled redhead with a wide smile a mid his dark stubble. Like Melk he wore no top, and for that I was grateful. While there's no way he could be a cowboy ,his body type and even aura suggested it. There was no hat in Texas hats or ass-less chaps, although he would look damn good in them. Sinewy muscles lined with two stripes of broken circles drew my eyes to the middle and down. It was as if nature hinted to look there. Don't think I need a hint for that. The other was order ,and smaller than the redhead, yet bigger than me. Unlike the first, he had no facial hair. I saw faint wrinkles around his eyes and thin black hair.He could be 'older man handsome' but the frown on his face took away any attractiveness he might have had. He too, was shirtless. However, the dots and flecks along his chest faded well before his waist. Physically ,I'd say he was a sparing match for me. Yes, he was older ,but those muscles were still bigger. Everyone here looked like they could swing an axe or sword. Don't need biceps for coffee I suppose. Melk pointed to the handsome redhead." This is Trevah. He's what you called...Beta." Trevah raised a single eyebrow. I grinned mentally on how close he mimicked my favourite science fiction character. Trevah repeated the word and Melk explained the defination. "Well,'; said Trevah as he propped himself up on a far-off table. "They are an interesting species. Small and endearing ." The older one spoke with a sharp, gravelly voice. "They aren't all small. Nor are they Volardi." He the spoke with musical tones I couldn't follow. Melk pressed his lips together." We are pursuing this Klar, and speak English." Klar frowned. "We're on our spaceship. Why must we speak his guttural tongue?" Trevah smiled, and I blinked as I stared. If I had to come up with a word for it,I'd go with disarming. "The earthling doesn't speak Volardi." "Earthling," I said . "They are adorable ,"said Trevah. "Adorable or not," said Klar."The flek doesn't belong here.'' Melk stood net to him after one long step. Deep purple eyes looked sown as he spoke softly. 'These people may be our lost cousins.Use that word again and I will break both your hands. You will lose your ability to work and your role on this ship." Trevah's nose flared. instead of diffusing the situation , he watched.
