Kassie
I avoided claws to the face by rolling away from my attacker. His claws dug up dirt from where I had been sprawled out on the ground the moment before. The large burly man growled in frustration. He thought he had me that time.
“You’re too slow, wolfie. Try again,” I taunted, as I jumped back up to my feet. I stayed crouched low on the balls of my feet, preparing for the next predictable attack.
Just as I thought, he lunged for me once again, his claws still extended.
I was taunting my prey, egging him on in order to make him sloppy and careless. It worked like a charm. He charged forward recklessly, leaving me with the ability to quickly side step him once more. Getting behind him, I kicked out his knees. They buckled under the force, bringing him down to the ground in a kneeling position. Before he had time to react, I threw my weight into him, knocking him to the ground so he was sprawled out face first. I put my knee into his back and my forearm into the back of his neck. I pressed my weight down into him unforgivingly.
“Tap out, Bear. You lost,” I cooed into his ear.
He could have used his brute strength and forced me off of him, but his energy was waning and was too tired to continue against me. He knew it too.
A growl vibrated in his chest but after a few solid moments of hesitation, he slammed his hand once into the dirt, signaling his defeat.
I jumped up, a toothy grin on my face.
After breakfast, I had quickly changed into less restrictive clothing and ran out of the house. I had felt the need to escape the four-walled prison, but mostly I needed space from Micah for a bit.
This morning had been…intense in a way, and I needed a run to work off the s****l frustration that Micah had unknowingly caused.
During my run, I happened upon an open field that looked as if it was a designated training area. A group of six werewolves gathered in a circle. Getting closer, I saw that they were watching two others spar. Intrigued, I stopped and watched.
I smiled coolly as the sandy blonde man finally released his darker haired opponent from a chokehold and helped him up. He clipped him on the back in a supportive manner before letting him step back into the ring of wolves.
“Who’s going against Bear next?”
That was when it dawned on me. What better way to release my tension than a good fight?
I stepped through the ring of wolves and faced the wolf named Bear. Fuc.king weird name, if you ask me.
“I’ll give it a go.”
Bear c****d his head to the side, seemingly hesitant, yet he agreed.
But he never could predict what it was like to fight the “little half breed”, as he referred to me as. He underestimated me.
I expected at his defeat he would’ve glowered at me, but instead he flashed me a brilliant toothy grin.
“Not bad. You’ve surprised me, Spunky.”
I rolled my eyes. Not bad? I kicked his as.s and that’s the best compliment he could do?
And I was just getting started.
“Who’s next, wolves?”
Another stepped forward and it was the same thing as the last. And the next after that. Each wolf was slower than me with low stamina. They were out of shape, easily winded. They put up a good fight, getting heavy hits in when they could. But just as the first, they were tired and had to call it quits.
By the fourth wolf, I was starting to tire, but I stood my ground. He swept my legs out from under me. I landed painfully on my back, my breath rushing out of me.
Tired or not, it didn’t change that this wolf was faster than the others. When he went to stomp on me to keep me pinned down, I grabbed his leg and yanked it hard. He lost his balance and fell beside me on his side. I jumped up and put space between us. I needed a moment to breathe as he recovered.
“Oh, she’s finally starting to tire out!” Someone shouted excitedly.
“Careful, Spunky, you’ll make yourself sick if you push yourself too hard.”
“If she gets sick, I’ll give her some vitamin D. D as in this d***k!”
The wolves erupted into laughter.
I growled, unamused. I’d kick that as.shole's ass next.
Suddenly, I felt that dark power swirling the air that belonged to Micah. I think the wolves felt it, too. My opponent visibly stiffened with widened eyes. Looking around, all the wolves had the same response. I, on the other hand, could only feel calmed by its presence.
“A d-demon?” One of them voiced, his voice low and frightful. It was the one who made the id.iotic comment.
Serves your right, mor.on.
I wouldn’t have been surprised if Micah was using his power on him to scare him shitless after that comment. But either way, he was terrified and probably needed to go home and change his underwear.
Even without Micah’s ability, people were terrified of him. Demons were top of the food chain. He could snap any of their necks without batting an eye. Micah was used to the prejudices though, never letting it phase him.
He walked up and threw an arm around the shoulders of the wolf in a firm grip. The wolf swallowed aloud and his face drained of color.
“Oh, sparring, are we?” He grinned as he turned to the wolf next to him. “Why don’t we go next? You and me.”
The wolf was void of all smiles and laughter now. “I…uh…n-n—“
“I insist. I won’t take no for an answer.” Micah got close to his ear, whispering something just low enough so I couldn’t hear. I didn’t think the wolf could get any more pale or wide eyed than before.
“Understand?” Micah said after he pulled away.
The wolf only nodded, his gaze averted to the ground. I couldn’t help but to roll my eyes.
“You’re ruining my fun, Mic.”
“Come on, Kassie, I can’t let you have all the fun. And besides,” he paused, walking through the wolves to stand in the middle just feet away from me. “How fun can it be when it’s not evenly matched?”
I shrugged. “Seemed pretty fun to me. You know I like to win.”
He arched a brow at me. “If anyone here has any chance at beating her,” he spoke aloud to all the surrounding guys, “you can’t hold back. You won’t beat her with speed, you will beat her with strength.”
I furrowed my brows at him.
“What the he.ll are you—?” He lunged at me, cutting me off. Surprised, I barely danced out of the way.
“What the f***k, Micah?!” I screamed as I moved out the way from another blow.
He was throwing serious punches at me. If just one connected with me, I’d be down for the count.
His right hand flew out and I leaned to the side to dodge it, only to see his left flying towards my face faster than I could anticipate and dodge.
Sh.it! He fuck.ing faked me out. This is going to hurt.
But nothing ever connected. I stared at his large fist where it stopped just a centimeter away from my face.
“Micah!” I hissed. “That would’ve broken my fuc.king nose!”
He chuckled. “Don’t worry, K, I’d never hurt that pretty little face.”
He turned his back on me then, looking for the wolf he had challenged earlier.
My anger rose, feeling undermined. I let out a growl as I ran in his direction. I jumped, latching onto his back in an attempt to bring him tumbling to the ground. To my dismay, he stood completely unfazed by my attack.
He unlatched me from his shoulders and threw me off. My back landed harshly on the ground, making me breathless.
“And her anger is her greatest weakness.”
“You planned that, you big, giant jerk.”
He helped me up, despite my attempts at smacking him away. Once standing, he lowered his head so his mouth was even with my ear.
“That was for sneaking in my bed. Maybe next time, you’ll wait until I invite you in,” he whispered, his deep voice low in my ear.
