Chapter 13

I took my time walking back to the castle. Today was going to be a weird one, having to be in front of some people I would rather not be, and keeping my cool. Something that even as a child I had a hard time doing. My father says it is because when I know something isn't right, or done wrong, I would not only stand up for myself, but also for anyone around me that I needed to. I walked up the castle steps, and when I got to the door I put my hand on the handle and dropped my head. I don't even want to enter these doors. I gave my crown up to my cousin Donna, and I know that upset my parents. Then I found out Heath had known for a while that he had a mate, and didn't say a word to me. Then my 2 best friends in the world, that I asked not to tell anyone where I was, did just that. I don't have many people here that I could trust.

I don't mean my family, because at the end of the day I know that I could trust them with my life (at least I hope that I could if it was even needed). My friends from school were the only ones I had in ‘real life’ outside of the kingdom. And in one night, we went from a group of 7. We are now down to 4. I opened the door and walked into the great hall. I could hear the chatter of other people in the dining area. I walked in and grabbed a tray and went up to the counter. I had 3 pancakes, bacon, 2 sunny side up eggs and 2 pieces of toast. When I was done grabbing my food, I went to find a place to sit.

As I started to walk by tables, people's conversations changed. They went from conversations that everyone could hear, to whispers about me, the princess who gave my crown up. Who ran away from my own party, and I was going to be the talk of the kingdom for quite some time.

All of a sudden, I could hear Rain calling my name. I glanced in her direction to see that her and the rest of our group were sitting together, including Heath. As the others turned to look at me, that is when I saw her. Jizzell. She was sitting right beside Heath. He had his arm slung over her shoulder, just like he used to do with me. When his eyes met mine, he quickly removed his arm from Jizzell. She looked at him very confused.

To be honest, I was also a little confused as to why he took his arm away from her. That is his mate. I have no right to fault him for that. And I won't ever. What I fault him for was keeping her a secret from me. I looked around and saw that there was a spot next to my Aunt Elle and Uncle Kiel and Aunt Desiree, so I went over to go and sit with them. I passed my parents while walking over to them. Before taking my set I went up to my mother and told her how much I loved her and my father. And how I hope that they don't hate me for what I chose to do last night.

My father was not as upset as my mother. I kissed her on her cheek, and gave my father a meek smile.

“Can I sit here?” I asked Uncle Kiel. When he looked up and saw me, he immediately moved over so I could sit down. “How are you doing hun?” Aunt Desiree asked as everyone at the table quieted down to hear what I was going to say.

“Listen guys, I am really alright, I promise! I just made a decision last night that I believe will be in my best interest and the kingdom. Now can we please just eat without any more questions?” I pleaded with them.

They all went about their business and ignored the fact I was there. That was exactly what I wanted. I took a few bites of my food, and boy was it hitting just the right spot. Aunt Elle spoke up, reminding me that I did not have anything to drink. She asked me what I wanted because she was going up for a coffee refill and would grab me something. I took a second and asked her for a coffee as well. Before she could even ask, I told her just to do it the way that she was doing hers.

There were people coming and going out of the dining hall as per usual. So I really wasn't paying much attention to who was coming in. That is when he spoke. “Hey Kiel, make sure you leave some food for everyone else!” Uncle Kiel got up and bro hugged Daniel. “There is plenty of food up there brother. Go get yourself a plate and then come back and sit with us.” Daniel and I locked eyes. I started to blush and gave him a cheesy smile. He gave me one back and then continued his way to the food.

Much to my surprise, Aunt Elle was on her way back with my coffee and saw the whole thing. She handed me my coffee and then linked me.

“Hey Nev, would you mind talking with me for a minute? When you're done eating, of course.”

I told her that we could talk. So now, for the rest of the time I spend here eating, all I can think about is what she wants to talk about, or more so what is she going to say about the way Daniel and I looked at each other. I know that the time is coming close to when I have to tell my family about us.

Every so often, I caught Aunt Elle looking in my direction. As soon as I was done, she shot up out of her chair.

“Nev, let me take your tray and cup, but would you mind coming with me? I need your help really quickly.” I know that she said this so as to not draw too much attention to the reason she really wanted me to go with her. I agreed and got up. Daniel was making his way over to the table and when he crossed my path, I got hit by his amazing scent again. Instantly I had a dirty mind. I started to think about him on top of me, kissing me, touching me, feeling me.. And that is when I heard it.

“Nevada, you are making this very hard for me. I don't think the kingdom wants to see me ravish you right here and right now. I don't give a damn who is watching. So please mind your thoughts.”

I couldn't even make eye contact with him. My thoughts he could see, and so he saw exactly what I was thinking. And that made it worse because that made things even sexier. As I followed my Aunt, we made our way out of the dining hall and into the kitchen. The cooks were all in the dining hall helping get everyone's food together. When we left the kitchen, she took me outside to the garden.

When we finally came to a stop, she turned to me with such happiness in her eyes.

“Nevada, I might be crazy, but is your mate in that dining hall?” I put my head down. I was outed before I even had the chance to process anything. “Yes Aunt Elle, he is there. Please don't say anything to anyone. We haven't told a soul yet.”

“Oh honey I am not going to say anything. However, if at any time you start to give out the good news, I will stand by your side if you would like for me to do that.” She said, being very supportive. “Thank you very much. I think that the only issue might be the age difference.” I said to her a little worried. “What are you talking about?” She said, looking a little concerned. I told her that he had to be at least her age if not a year older. So like 36, 37? And that was when her face changed.

“I’m sorry dear, but do you mind telling me who your mate is?” Now I am a little confused. I know that she saw my face, and knew that it had to do with my mate, but maybe she didn't see who that face was because of. “Again please don't tell anyone you know this alright? And please don't freak out. But Daniel is my mate.”

“Nevada, listen, I don't think that this age gap is going to be an issue. What I do think that the issue is going to be is that your father and him don't quite see eye to eye. That is something that has been that way since they were younger. He never explained to anyone what the problem they had was. All that anyone ever knew was that there was a problem. However, this also puts a damper on what you did last night.” She explained. I asked her if she could elaborate on it. She said that I gave up the crown to the kingdom because I wanted to basically be ‘young, wild and free.’ But being Daniles' mate, that means that you would have given up the crown, to be his Luna.”

I was so beyond shocked that I couldn't even get a word out. I know that he said he needed to let his Beta know that he was going to be here for a few more nights, but for whatever reason, it didn't register in my brain that what he said meant that he was an Alpha. He and I are going to have to talk. I didn't want any of that kind of responsibility, I wanted to live my life. I wanted to travel and sightsee all kinds of things. I want to learn about all the herbs and flowers that are beneficial to us. I want to see the great wall of China. I want to go to the Leaning Tower of Pizza. Being a queen, or a luna means none of that will happen.

“I need to go…” I took off running again. Aunt Elle didn't call after me. She gets me, she knows that there is a lot that needs to be thought about. And I need space. She has always been the best at sensing when someone needs to be left alone. I ran back into the castle and up to my room. I shut my door and locked it as quickly as possible. Then I went into my closet and pulled one of the wooden boards off the wall. My room was one of the few that had a secret passageway to what I think used to be a ballroom. It was huge. I closed the board behind me and ran all the way to this room. Once I was there, I let out the biggest scream that I could.

Nothing is going my way. Everything that I had planned, the Moon Goddess has changed, or is changing. Was I not making the right decisions? Was I being childish? I need you Hera, I need answers….
