TWO DIFFERENT STORIES
As the sun began to rise, two young handsome men jogged down the street. They talked as they jogged.
"Are your parents aware?" Camden asked.
"Would I be jogging with you now?" Kayson asked.
"Yeah, right. Your parents would have skinned you alive." Camden chuckled at the thought of it.
"Things were going fine and I thought "I'll fix it with time" but then...she spoilt my plan." Kayson lamented.
"Who? Your sister?"
"No. Gwen."
"Gwen? Who's that?" Camden raised his brows.
"Gwen Monroe. She'll be back today."
"Oh?" Camden gasped "That's bad."
"It was ten years ago and I thought it has ended but no... it just began."
"Whoa! I feel bad for you but how did you know?"
"I overheard my mom and her mom talking about it before they fought. She also boasted how Gwen's the best student in medical school and she's now an intern. I'm sure she'll come back home with the latest trend of car."
"Wait!"
They stopped jogging and stood by a wall.
"Why did we stop?" Kayson asked Camden.
"You mean you messed up and when you thought you had the time to fix it, a childhood rival is on her way, right?" Camden asked.
"Yes. Why is your brain too slow to understand? My life is at stake."
"Jeez! You're in trouble, Kay."
"I know and I'm angry. I don't know what to do."
"Fake it."
"Huh?"
"I said fake it."
"I hope it works."
"You have to make sure it works. I'll also help you."
"Thanks." Kayson smiled.
"By the way, do you know how she looks like?"
"No but I'm sure she won't be pretty."
They took few steps, heading for road that lead to different roads and corners.
Unknown to them, a car was approaching.
In the car, a very beautiful lady was driving.
She had a smile on her face as she talked to a friend on phone.
"Isn't it too early to drive, Dolyn?" The female on the other end said.
"I wanted to wake my neighbours up."
"You mean the Harrisons?"
"Yes. That guy is just...oh my God!" She screamed as her car almost made contact with two men
She accelerated the car to another direction and stopped the car. She quickly got down and rushed to the men.
"I'm really sorry. Are you hurt?" She asked, concern etched on her face.
"Wow! You're beautiful." Camden complimented and winked at her
"You were just in a life threatening situation. Do you think now is the time to flirt?" She asked and turned to Kayson.
"Hi. I hope you didn't get hurt?" She asked a broad smile on her face
"No. You look kinda familiar." Kayson said.
" You look handsome. Can we get to know each other. You're my type."
"No, I'm sorry. I have a lot on my head. I don't want to be in a relationship now."
"Okay but if you think of dating. Here's my card." She handed him her card, smiled and left.
"She's pretty." Camden said as they watched her get into her car and drove off.
Kayson shrugged and glanced at her card.
His eyes widened.
"What's wrong?"
"She's... she's Gwen." Kayson said in shock.
"You're kidding. When did she become so beautiful?" Camden said and took the card from Kayson.
His eyes widened too.
"Gwendolyn Monroe?" He asked in shock.
"Does that mean she also didn't recognise you?" Camden continued.
"Obviously."
"Use it against her." Camden suggested
Kayson smiled mischievously
The Monroe and the Harrison have been long-term quality rivals.
While the Monroe's daughter did well academically, the Harrison's son struggled to meet up with his mate and he always got scolded by his parents.
Gwendolyn was a perfectionist and her brilliance was unmatched. She won awards consistently and her parents beamed with pride. Meanwhile, Kayson Harrison who had congenital insensitivity to pain struggled to keep up. His parents, disappointed and frustrated, constantly compared him to Gwen, yelling at him to do better.
Kayson recalled how Gwen would often tease him about his condition calling him "accident prone" in front of others. Kayson remembered the pain and humiliation Gwen caused him.
In school, Gwen will consistently outperform Kayson, making him feel inadequate. He recalled feeling like he could never meet up with his parents expectations . While Gwen proudly holds her award, Kayson felt "She's showing off again."
Gwen sometimes excluded him from social events or gatherings, making him feel like an outcast. As they grew older, Gwen's comments about Kayson's conditions cut deep. She would say things like "You're so lucky you don't feel pain else I would have skinned you alive" without understanding the complexities of his condition. Not only did she mocked his condition, she also boasted about her performance and cussed Kayson for not doing well.
While all of this happened, Camden stuck with Kayson and Calico stuck with Gwen.
"Kay?" Camden called.
"What?"
"Your arm. It's bleeding. You must have scratched it on the wall while avoiding the car." Camden said.
Kayson scoffed.

An high school girl screamed and ran farther into the woods, calling out for help.
Her hair was disheveled and her face was filled with tears and sweat.
"Gotcha!" A man jumped out of the woods and stood in front of her.
"Ah!" She screamed in horror and flinched back.
"Please, please." She whispered as fresh tears flowed down her eyes.
She flinched when someone behind her held her waist.
"Please." She shivered in fear.
"Dear Olivia, don't make this harder for us." She heard a familiar voice and slowly turned.
Beep! Beep!! Beep!!!
The blaring sound of the alarm jolted Peyton out of the bed.
She panted hard as if she's been chased by an eerie creature.
"If my memories are slowly coming back, why can't I recognise faces?" Peyton asked and stopped the alarm.
She got up from bed and made her way to the bathroom.
She heard her phone ringing and rushed back to the bed.
She picked it up and long press the green button.
The call got connected.
"Hello, Gwen."
"I'm at your door."
"Okay." Peyton smiled and hung up.
She dropped her phone on the bed and rushed out of her room
She rushed to the door and quickly opened it.
"Oh my gosh!" Both Gwen and Peyton exclaimed, embracing.
"I miss you so much." They disengaged.
"Come in." Peyton opened the door wide and Gwen walked in.
"Your place looks nice." Gwen glanced round.
"Thanks. I stole the design from your old apartment."
"How dare you?! Stealing the original design from me?" Gwen mimicked and they both laughed.
"That definitely sounds like Calico. How's she?" Peyton said, a smile on her face
"Good. We talked few minutes ago."
"Okay."
"She even got herself a man."
"Wow! I hope he lasts unlike the others."
"Me too."
"Your face? You have make-up on this early?"
"Yeah. I was supposed to go to my parents house but I decided to drop by your house today. How're you doing?"
"Not bad. My memories are slowly returning but I can't seem to recognise the faces."
"With time, I'm sure you will."
"I hope so. So... anything?"
"Guess what?"
"Just tell me."
"I met this very handsome guy on the road today and I felt a strong connection towards him. It's like we were meant to be."
"Really? Did you get his number or did he take yours?"
"He took mine. You know I don't like chasing men." Gwen lied.
Peyton chuckled"So, what about your first love?"
"Ew! Don't call him that! He taunted me for so many years. I have returned to haunt him down." Gwen said with a determined expression.
"Whoa! With that face, I'm sure you'll win."
"Of course."
"But why do you hate him so much?"
Gwen recalled how Kayson often played pranks on her, pushing her to her limits. One time, he filled her rooms with balloons and she tripped causing her to hurt her knee. Gwen remembered feeling angry and helpless but Kayson wasn't remorseful.
In school, Kayson intentionally sabotage Gwen's projects and pretended to car in front of the teacher. She felt betrayed and frustrated back then. Kayson's competitive nature would often lead him to belittle Gwen's achievements making her feel like she wasn't good enough. One time, while holding her award to the crowd, she glanced round and sea Kayson utter some words and scoffed while looking at her disdainfully. She thought "He's jealous again." She felt hurt and demotivated.
Kayson often disregarded her feelings either telling her that she was overreacting or being too sensitive. She felt like he didn't car about her emotions or wellbeing.
One time, Kayson embarrassed Gwen in front of her friends making a joke about her appearance and Gwen told her friends to stay away from him, telling everyone to treat him like an outcast for humiliating her.
As Gwen's flashback continued, it became clear that her hatred for Kayson was rooted in the pain and frustration she had endured.
As Gwen reflected on their past, Kayson's own flashbacks had revealed a different side of the story.
