Riding the sea

1925 Words
The warm beach sand made a tingling feeling under my feet as I’m walking son it barefooted with, Eve. I am so very tired of hearing about the text she received from Edward the previous day. She has been chorusing the same lyrics from the time she picked me up from home so we could do some swimming on a Saturday in summer. I really wish she drowns any moment now. “You know I would have never become your best friend if I knew you were such a parrot,” I half shouted over her voice that looks like some program that’s on a while loop and won’t stop running. “I have no doubt I know the whole scene by heart.” “Really, please tell it to me, I love it when you tell stories from your imagination,” she chirps grinning like a kid standing in front of a candy vendor. “Ok. But promise me you will stop reiterating after that?” I look into her eyes and… Oh! My! Gosh! “Eve, who’s behind me?” I ask. “What do you mean? And how do you know there’s anyone?” “Excuse me, have you forgotten you’re wearing a pair of sunglasses?” “Oh. Well there seems to be no one behind you except… OMG,” yep, she has seen him but who is he? “Well that looks like… I think you should just turn around and see for yourself because my vision is not very good.” “Dang, look at those abs.” His hair was all curled up as he slowly walked out of the water and brushed it off his face revealing his gorgeous blue eyes and a familiar smirk… actually, it’s a smile. His chest is well defined above the rock hard abs that looks like an artist’s over exaggerated work. A blue surf-board is plugged into the soil and he waits for his friend who is still playing with the waves. Already girls are swarming all around him as if some flies just found dirt. The whole place seems to be in fast forward as they are leaving their boyfriend to see this godly creature who probably doesn’t care about any of them. As his friend arrives he gets into the circle and attract more people. “Is that some live contest or what?” Evelyn asks. “Nop. I think that was the stupid Ace and his minion,” I reply. “But why would they get so much attention?” “Well from my understanding, those guys are like some aliens thrown onto earth. I mean, any girl would want to date him, even for seconds.” “I can imagine having myself buried in those strong muscles,” Eve imitated a girl being hugged. Can’t believe she’s already daydreaming. The clouds slowly turn gray and the scent of water fills the entire sky. People are scurrying off the beach premises. I wait for Eve to get out of the water and we rush to our car. “Does it really have to rain today. I mean, I couldn’t get enough of those guys,” we sit in the car and throw our staff into the back. Eve turns the key in the ignition and the doors open from both sides allowing two bodies to jump in and make themselves comfortable. We both turn and look at the two guys who patiently looked at us as if waiting for us to ask them something. Which I’m about to do. “I think you’re in the wrong car,” I say avoiding eye contact with either of the guys, “Nop, I’m in the right car, I don’t know about Trey over here. Bro, do you think we might have entered the wrong car?” He asks his colleague who seems to be interested more in Eve than our conversation. Oh no. Love triangle alert! “Nop, not at all,” Trey absentmindedly replies. “Right, we’re in the right car and you better drive else the storm is gonna get us good.” “This car will only move after you make your way out,” I add more attitude to my tone. “Eve, will you drive the car. Please.” We are left in shock after Trey says Eve’s name. How on earth did he know her? “Dude, how on earth do you know her? I didn’t even know she existed till today and I’d have forgotten by tomorrow so don’t bother telling me, and will you just get this car moving ‘cause if I get wet a bit then you guys are going to spend the whole of tomorrow in detention.” “What?” Both Eve and myself shout in unison. “Get the car moving and drop me at my damn place. Ok,” he screams. “Oh, you’re getting angry even after forcing yourself into our car.” I don’t care who’s car it is. Just get the wheels rolling, get it,” it was visible on his face that he was beginning to fume with anger. His angular features still remained the same though. Eve starts the car and we’re slowly driving back home. The two are sitting silently listening to the music being played in the car till I ask for directions. Somehow Trey knows where I live and he says Ace lives just across the street. It’s his turn to scream in horror now since he doesn’t know. I’m not sure what’s keeping me from doing the same. Maybe it’s because I was once told about it. “Are you trying to say I live in the same street with a waitress?” Ace freaked out and nearly bumped his head onto the car’s roof. “Who’s a waitress by the way?” I ask as if I don’t know he’s talking about me, “It’s good to hold your tongue you know. It would be better if you ask before you blurt out nonsense. Irritation is written all over his face as he tries to ignore me and changes the topic, “How far are we from home guys, the temperature in this room is hot and there’s need for more class in this little thing. Do you use this everyday? Ohh. Sorry for asking, that’s obvious.” It seems Eve is equally irritated by Ace’s comments she harshly parks the car making them hit their heads on the windows. Ace gets out of the car and Trey remains seated. “You know what Kia… I’ve never seen anyone getting into that guy’s nerves the way you did. I’m coming for lessons cause you got guts girl. Good night ladies,” he shouts and jumps out of the car. Wow. I’m confused. Is it true when they say opposites attract cause if it wasn’t then these two guys will never be friends. One is full of attitude, pride, ego and the other… well he seems to be softhearted but I can’t judge so soon right. The car is parked in my driveway and both of us are drenched in water when we enter the house. I hate it when it rains so heavily. We walk into the kitchen and grab our food from the fridge and make our way to my room. Just as I had left it, in complete disorder. And Eve will start complaining about it in three, two, one, “You know I really hate it when your room looks like some junkyard or a bachelor’s room. You’re a lady,” she says picking up my staff, “Act like one.” “Could we do the packing tomorrow and relax for now?” I ask, “Please..” then I plead.   I wake up after having a tough landing on my bedroom tiles. My left arm is aching and my hair looks like an abandoned nest. Huge bags are are visible under my eyes. I drag myself to the bathroom where I then realize everything had been organized for me by Eve. I skip down the stairs to Eve and Mom and find my cereal ready while Eve is helping my mom clean the place up. No wonder she likes Eve more than any of my friends. I can see the two of them smiling as they mop the tiles and dust the sofas. “Good morning,” I shout to them heading to the kitchen. “Hello sleeping beauty,”my mom shouts back without turning towards me. I pour my cereal into a bowl and help myself till I can no longer add anything more to my tummy, except chocolate. Today’s Sunday and I have to go out with Eve like always, on our bikes. I quickly wash the bowl and call out to Eve who finds me waiting at the front door. We looked like twins in our leather jackets, black jeans and biker shoes because no one could see our faces. We jump onto our bikes and head for Old Joe’s to get some chocolate. We park our bikes close to the place and head for the shop but it’s not Old Joe inside. The new girl from school is there reading some novel. What’s her connection with old Joe? “Hey there Alana?” Eve shouts while making her way to the chocolates shelf. Alana who is so involved in her novel is startled by the greeting I doubt she even heard us coming in. “What are you doing here? Behind the counter? Where’s Old Joe?” I fire the questions. “You know you could actually give her time to answer before asking the next question right?” Eve asks. “Oh. Yeah. Sorry.” “You two must be Eve and Kylie?” The girl behind the counter asks with a tone indicating doubt. “Actually, it’s Kia not Kylie,” I correct her. “How are you?” “I’m fine. Actually I’m here cause my uncle fell sick and had to be taken to hospital therefore I had to stay and be of some help. After all I got no friends yet.” “When do you close?” “At one o’clock since it’s a Saturday,” she scanned my face so she can figure out why I asked. “Well, you’re dressed like us and I think I saw a bike out there. Do you think we could hang out after that?” Eve asked impatiently waiting for a reply. “But..” “Well, don’t worry we’ll give you company till then, you know like getting to know each other?”   “Please,” I help Eve plead. By the way, my fingers are crossed.
