The attack on Aurelion changed everything.
The palace was heavily guarded.
The city gates remained closed after sunset.
Rumors spread through every street and marketplace.
Some spoke of werewolves walking beside human soldiers.
Others whispered about a princess surrounded by silver light.
For Rayna, life had become more complicated than ever.
Every morning brought new questions.
Every night brought new responsibilities.
And every day reminded her that she was no longer just a princess.
She was the Moon Heir.
Three days after the attack, Rayna stood in the palace gardens.
The same gardens where her powers had awakened.
The silver pendant rested against her chest.
Across from her stood Alpha King Lucian.
Darius leaned against a nearby tree, watching quietly.
"Again," Lucian instructed.
Rayna sighed.
"I've been trying for an hour."
"Then try for another."
She resisted the urge to roll her eyes.
Closing her eyes, she focused on the strange energy within her.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then faint silver light appeared around her fingertips.
A small success.
But only for a second.
The light disappeared almost immediately.
Rayna groaned.
"I think the moon chose the wrong person."
Darius laughed.
Lucian gave him a warning look.
The prince wisely became quiet.
Mostly.
"You're improving," Darius said.
"I produced a spark."
"It was a very impressive spark."
Rayna threw a flower at him.
He caught it effortlessly.
The smile that followed made her heart flutter unexpectedly.
As the days passed, training became part of her routine.
Lucian taught her the history of the Moon Heirs.
Moonclaw scholars taught her ancient symbols.
And Darius...
Darius somehow managed to make every lesson more enjoyable.
Sometimes he challenged her to races through the forest.
Sometimes he taught her how werewolves tracked movement.
Other times they simply talked.
About anything.
Everything.
The more time they spent together, the more natural it felt.
As if they had known each other their entire lives.
One evening, after another training session, Rayna and Darius sat beside the crystal lake.
The water reflected thousands of stars.
Neither seemed eager to leave.
"You know," Rayna said, tossing a pebble into the lake, "when I was younger, I wanted to be an explorer."
Darius smiled.
"An explorer?"
"I wanted to travel the world."
"What stopped you?"
Rayna laughed softly.
"The fact that I'm a princess."
Darius nodded knowingly.
He understood that feeling.
"The first time I left Moonclaw," he admitted, "I got lost within an hour."
Rayna burst into laughter.
"The future king got lost?"
"It wasn't my fault."
"It absolutely was."
Darius shook his head.
"I was ten."
"Still counts."
Their laughter echoed across the lake.
For a while, the prophecy, the danger, and the responsibilities faded away.
There was only the two of them.
And the quiet comfort of each other's company.
Suddenly, the pendant around Rayna's neck glowed.
Both froze.
The lake began shimmering.
Silver symbols appeared beneath the water.
Far more symbols than before.
Darius stood immediately.
Something was wrong.
The water darkened.
The glowing symbols twisted.
Then an image appeared on the lake's surface.
A ruined fortress.
A black throne.
And a man surrounded by shadows.
The Dark Sorcerer.
Rayna felt cold.
Even through the vision, his presence felt terrifying.
The figure slowly raised his head.
His crimson eyes stared directly at them.
As if he could see through the magic.
As if he knew they were watching.
Then he smiled.
"Moon Heir."
The voice echoed from the lake itself.
Ancient.
Cruel.
Powerful.
"The time approaches."
The vision shifted.
A mountain appeared.
Then a silver crystal glowing beneath the earth.
The image vanished instantly.
The lake returned to normal.
Silence followed.
Neither moved.
Neither spoke.
Finally Darius broke the silence.
"Did you see that crystal?"
Rayna nodded.
"What was it?"
Darius looked troubled.
Very troubled.
"I think it was the Heart of Luna."
"The what?"
He stared at the water.
"A source of ancient moon magic."
Rayna's stomach tightened.
"And that's bad?"
Darius exhaled slowly.
"If the Dark Sorcerer finds it first..."
He didn't finish the sentence.
He didn't need to.
Rayna already understood.
Whatever the Heart of Luna was, it could determine the fate of both kingdoms.
Far away, inside a fortress hidden among black mountains, the Dark Sorcerer stood before a giant map.
The masked leader knelt before him.
"The Moon Heir grows stronger."
The Sorcerer smiled.
"Good."
The servant looked confused.
"My lord?"
"The stronger she becomes, the easier she will be to find."
Dark shadows swirled around the throne.
"The Heart of Luna is awakening."
His crimson eyes glowed brighter.
"And soon, the prince and princess will lead me directly to it."
Lightning flashed outside the fortress.
A storm was coming.
And this time, neither prophecy nor destiny would be enough to stop it.
To be continued...
