Chapter 1: The Girl Who Dreamed of the Moon
The Kingdom of Aurelion sparkled beneath the morning sun. White marble towers rose above the city, their golden banners dancing in the wind. Merchants filled the streets with laughter and music, while nobles prepared for the upcoming Festival of the Silver Moon.
Yet high above the city, in a palace overlooking the kingdom, Princess Rayna Tresa Shane felt trapped.
She stood beside her bedroom window, gazing toward the distant mountains that stretched across the horizon. Beyond them lay the Forbidden Wilds, a land no human dared enter.
According to the stories, dangerous creatures lived there.
Werewolves.
"Your Highness?"
Rayna turned to find her maid, Elara, carrying a stack of silk dresses.
"The Queen wishes to see you in the grand hall."
Rayna sighed.
"Let me guess. Another lesson on royal etiquette?"
Elara smiled apologetically.
"Perhaps."
Rayna groaned dramatically and followed her maid through the palace corridors.
At eighteen years old, Rayna had spent her entire life preparing to become queen. She studied history, politics, diplomacy, and warfare. Every moment of her future seemed planned.
Every moment except her dreams.
For months, the same dream had haunted her.
A silver forest.
A glowing moon.
Golden eyes watching her from the darkness.
The dreams felt so real that she often woke with her heart racing.
She had never told anyone.
Not even her parents.
As she entered the grand hall, King Theodore and Queen Isabella sat upon their thrones.
"My daughter," the king greeted warmly.
Rayna bowed.
"You wished to see me?"
The queen exchanged a glance with her husband.
"The Festival of the Silver Moon begins tomorrow."
"I know."
"Nobles from neighboring kingdoms will attend."
Rayna immediately sensed trouble.
"And?"
The king smiled.
"We believe it is time for you to consider marriage."
Rayna nearly choked.
"Marriage?"
"You are the future queen," Queen Isabella said gently. "The kingdom needs stability."
Rayna clenched her fists.
She understood her duty.
But she wanted more than a political alliance.
She wanted adventure.
Freedom.
A chance to choose her own future.
"I'll think about it," she replied before excusing herself.
The moment she left the hall, she headed for her favorite place in the kingdom.
The palace gardens.
Ancient trees surrounded a crystal fountain hidden from the rest of the world. It was the one place where she could be alone.
As sunset approached, orange light painted the sky.
Rayna sat beside the fountain and closed her eyes.
Then she heard something.
A rustle.
Her eyes snapped open.
Standing between the trees was a wolf.
But it wasn't an ordinary wolf.
Its silver fur shimmered like moonlight.
Its eyes glowed with an unnatural golden light.
Rayna froze.
The creature watched her silently.
For a moment, neither moved.
Then the wolf turned and disappeared into the forest.
Rayna stood quickly.
"Wait!"
Without thinking, she ran after it.
Past the garden walls.
Past the guards.
Into the darkening woods.
The silver wolf remained just ahead, guiding her deeper into the forest.
Branches brushed against her dress as she followed.
Finally, the trees opened into a hidden clearing.
A crystal lake reflected the first stars of the night.
The wolf stood at the water's edge.
Then, before Rayna's eyes, it vanished.
A sudden gust of wind swept across the clearing.
And where the wolf had stood now stood a young man.
Tall.
Dark-haired.
Golden-eyed.
Powerful.
Beautiful.
Rayna's breath caught.
The stranger stared at her with equal surprise.
For a long moment, neither spoke.
Then he whispered words that would change both their lives forever.
"You're the girl from the prophecy."
To be continued...
