The moon pendant rested against Rayna's chest as she returned to the palace.
Though she was physically home, her thoughts remained in the forest.
The prophecy.
The Dark Sorcerer.
Darius.
Everything was changing far too quickly.
As she climbed onto her balcony, she looked once more toward the distant mountains.
Somewhere beyond them, Darius was fighting to protect his people.
A strange ache settled in her heart.
She had known him for only a few days.
Yet it felt as though she had known him forever.
Three days passed.
No messages arrived.
No silver wolf appeared.
No secret meetings took place.
The kingdom continued its normal routine, but rumors spread through the city.
Villages near the borders reported strange shadows moving through the forests.
Livestock disappeared.
Travelers vanished.
Fear slowly crept across Aurelion.
King Theodore ordered additional guards to patrol the kingdom.
Even so, Rayna couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible was approaching.
That night, a violent storm swept across the land.
Thunder shook the palace walls.
Rain crashed against the windows.
Most of the kingdom slept.
But not everyone.
Hidden beneath the darkness, dozens of cloaked figures moved toward the capital.
Their eyes glowed crimson.
Shadow Hunters.
At their head rode a man cloaked entirely in black.
His face was hidden beneath a silver mask.
"The princess," he ordered.
"Find her."
Rayna awoke suddenly.
A strange sensation filled the room.
The pendant around her neck was glowing.
She sat upright.
"What...?"
The silver light grew brighter.
Then came a scream from somewhere inside the palace.
Another followed.
Then another.
Rayna jumped out of bed.
The hallway outside erupted into chaos.
Guards rushed past her door.
Servants fled in panic.
Smoke filled the air.
The palace was under attack.
"Princess!"
Adrian appeared at the end of the corridor.
His face was pale.
"We need to go!"
Before Rayna could respond, a nearby window exploded inward.
Dark figures entered the hallway.
Shadow Hunters.
The guards immediately engaged them.
Steel clashed.
Magic flashed.
The corridor became a battlefield.
Adrian grabbed Rayna's hand.
"Run!"
They raced through the palace.
Behind them came screams and crashing stone.
The attackers were searching for someone.
Searching for her.
Meanwhile, far beyond the mountains, Darius stood inside Moonclaw Castle's war chamber.
The Alpha King and his generals discussed the attacks on the northern villages.
Suddenly Darius froze.
A powerful wave of energy surged through him.
The same energy he had felt near Rayna.
The prophecy bond.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
He looked toward the south.
Toward Aurelion.
Toward Rayna.
Without another word, he turned and ran.
"Darius!" Lucian called.
But the prince was already gone.
Back in Aurelion, Rayna and Adrian reached the palace gardens.
The storm raged overhead.
Lightning illuminated the sky.
Several Shadow Hunters dropped from the trees, blocking their path.
Adrian drew his sword.
"Stay behind me."
The attackers advanced.
There were too many.
Far too many.
For the first time, genuine fear gripped Rayna.
The masked leader stepped forward.
At last.
The princess.
"The Dark Master sends his regards."
Dark energy gathered around his hands.
Rayna instinctively clutched the moon pendant.
The silver charm suddenly became scorching hot.
A brilliant light erupted from it.
The entire garden exploded with silver radiance.
The Shadow Hunters screamed.
The masked leader staggered backward.
"What is this?"
The light intensified.
Rayna gasped as energy surged through her body.
The storm clouds above parted.
Moonlight poured down from the heavens.
Silver symbols appeared around her.
The same symbols she had seen within the crystal lake.
Ancient.
Powerful.
Alive.
Everyone stared in shock.
Including Rayna.
"I don't understand..."
The symbols began circling her faster and faster.
Then a powerful wave of energy burst outward.
The attackers were thrown across the gardens.
Trees bent beneath the force.
Windows shattered.
Even the storm itself seemed to retreat.
For a brief moment, the entire kingdom glowed silver.
Then everything became still.
Rayna collapsed to her knees.
The light vanished.
Silence followed.
The surviving Shadow Hunters stared at her in horror.
"The Moon Heir," one whispered.
"No..."
"It can't be."
Suddenly a deafening wolf howl echoed across the night.
Every Shadow Hunter froze.
They knew that sound.
The Silver Prince had arrived.
At the edge of the gardens stood a massive silver wolf with glowing golden eyes.
Darius.
His gaze locked onto Rayna.
Relief flooded through him.
She was alive.
But the look on his face quickly changed.
Because he had seen the silver light.
He knew exactly what it meant.
The prophecy wasn't merely awakening anymore.
It had chosen its champion.
And the Dark Sorcerer would stop at nothing to claim her power.
To be continued...
