"What?" My mom was so surprised that she removed the water hose she used to water the plants.
"Mom, you made my dress wet!" I quickly kicked the hose away from me.
My mom led me into the house. Luckily Andrew had already left for work, so he wouldn't know about our conversation.
"Mom, you hurt my hand!" I quickly pulled my hand away.
"This wouldn't have happened if you hadn't been so rash!" My mom scolded me instead. "I told you every time you must be nice to Ellen in front of people so that no one sees you. What if the coffee shop owner complains to Andrew? Our lives are already safe here. I don't want to return to being homeless and in debt!"
