Thunder storms

901 Words
The cry of a baby wasn't really a thing of joy to sailors half way across the Atlantic about to face thier first threatening storm, but this one was going to be. They all gathered at the cabinet sorrounding Hailey Flinnch the daughter of the Captain who was in labour.  The tides were high that evening but each moment the waves hits the ship the sailors cheered and drank thier whiskey to acknowledge the presence of the Mighty Ocean. The Smell of dark Rum and the sound of drunk singing and merry making filled the air as All were gathered to witness the birth of another sailor. Oh! well, except little Sandra Flinch and old captain Murdock. The Capt. Was in the wheel room trying to navigate the ship to a coordinate with a minimum storm atmosphere, while Sandy was on the other end of the Georgestone Marine, knitting her bait on the hook. Each time she dropped it in the water and it shrugged a little she got excited, pulls it up and find nothing on it except her bait is gone. She kept on trying, waiting, listening to Jack the Rebel on the other side loudly telling tales of thier Travails on pirates and fighting off Sharks to save men overboard during mighty Windstorms as Sandra's mum screamed in pain of childbirth in the background. The atmosphere was a complicated one with the panic of a storm, screams of labour of a child birth, loud thunder claps but yet merrymaking and lazy dancing by half drunk seamen. One could say It was quite an evening at the Sea but there was more to come. Little Sandy was not allowed to witness the labour of her mother, neither was she interested in merry making, so she detached herself from the crew, sat behind the row, at the edge of the ship's end and watched the mighty ocean, waiting for it to play tricks on her again.well it did. Her hook, it shrug again, then again.. She thought it might be really something this time so she pulled it up but it got heavy. She strapped the handle to the ship's Anchor pole with her hairband and ran off to fetch to the Captain screaming in Joy,... "Pa!, pa!! Grandpa, I caught a fish, but it's really heavy I know not how to pull it out, come, come see I caught a fish"..... She ran out to lead the way without giving the old man a chance to say "No".... Well, Old Murdock gave a loud sigh, grunted and took on his bottle of Frail biccardi, his strongest of Rum, and set out of the wheel room to find his grand daughter. Sandy untied the fishing pole and stuck it in-between her thighs while she sat and tied her beautiful ivory hair back to a pony.  Murdock adored his grand daughter so much, but hardly ever got affectionate with her in a bid to teach her bravery and courage as the first principle character a sailor must possess if she wanted to control a ship one day and that has been Sandra's dream. Beautiful brown eyes, gracious stare, and an Inherited love for water. Her dad called her a little Mermaid because of her dominating skills over water. She Had a dark long hair, it was always a pony unless she went for a swim, she was 7years of Age when she embarked on her first sail to the Atlantic with her Dad and Grandma to the other end of England to witness the naming ceremony of the Earl of Nothingham's Daughter on the western part of England but something terrible happened at the sea, no one knew the story but she was found by local fisher men on the shores in a safe bunk, the Ship was no where to be found across the seas, neither was the body of Franklin flinch and old Mrs. Murdock. After 7 years they were presumed Dead. Experts predicted that Sandy floated 107miles approximately, for 43days and 42nights before reaching the shore but she said she was unconcious and can't remember what happened but there was a storm that knocked her out of conciouness. for 43days? She couldn't wrap her head around that. She was placed under extreme observation, medical and therapeutic care but she seemed alright, just a little sad having lost her father and Grandma.... But Sandy has always been inlove with the Waters that flows to and fro and was not afraid to go on another Voyage as soon as she could. Such bravery she was commended for. The cheers and drinking became louder and heavier respectively, the sailors rejoiced as news came by as whispers from the maids inside that the head of the baby came forward and it was a boy.... The thunderstorm got Fierce, the wind defied gravity as it took off most of the sailors hat up to the air and they never saw it come down.... For some reason best known to Alcohol it ammused them. They gave out loud giggles and put up thier cups chanting old scottish native anthems, the kind you usually heard when soldiers prepare for battle they are not sure they would win. But then the Captain must have yelled some bravery into them and the alcohol did some good too. So I guess they were ready for the storm coming.
