With her lips tightly pressed together, as if she was trying to suppress her tears, Marga turned around and pulled me right into her arms. We had no time for a sentimental farewell scene, so I was surprised when she suddenly got all too emotional. She even stopped to give me a hug even when she should be hurrying inside the airport to check-in and board the plane. “I’m gonna miss you — no — I mean, I miss you already….” Marga whispered, sniffing at my shoulders like she was close to crying. “Can you fly back to Anchorage and go home on my birthday, too?” I smiled to conceal the growing longing and didn’t tease her as initially planned.
