CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE July 3, 2010 Early Afternoon Calvin paced the living room as he considered the possibilities for the key thief. Years ago, when it was just a game, Martin had taught him how to make things disappear. At parties, Martin would swap guests’ packs of gum into the place their cell phones had been. He’d always announce the trick and give everything back. Later, he’d gone further and used the trick against the family. Cash disappeared into six-packs of Coors, and nothing was ever returned. Calvin had retaliated, using the same skill. The pockets of his school teachers felt the blows. Just a few dollar bills each time.
