We both turned abruptly. Georgina stood on the stairs, her expression twisted with resentment, making her look like a ghostly apparition haunting the dimly lit hallway. Her sharp gaze landed on Cole's hand gripping my elbow, and she repeated, voice laced with suspicion, "I heard a noise... so what exactly are you two doing?" Cole swallowed hard, his fingers twitching before he abruptly let go of me, stepping back as if burned. "Nothing," he said quickly, too quickly. "We were just discussing some... business matters."
