The Mystery Girl — A beautiful, mysterious young woman who appears near the waterfall deep in the mountains. No one knows who she is, how she got there, or why Ethan is the only person who can see her. --- Chapter One — Into the Mountains The road became narrower with every kilometer. Tall trees surrounded the five friends as their old van climbed deeper into the mountains. The last traces of the village had disappeared almost an hour ago. "We should have brought a bigger vehicle," Lucas complained from the driver's seat. Mia laughed beside him. "You were the one who said this would be an adventure." "It is an adventure," Lucas replied. "I'm just beginning to regret it." In the back seat, Adrian and Claire laughed. Ethan said nothing. He stared through the window at the endless forest. They had planned the camping trip for months. Five friends. Two couples and Ethan—the only single man among them. They had heard about a beautiful waterfall hidden somewhere in the mountains. According to the locals, very few people ever reached it. Some even claimed that a girl appeared there. A girl who had been seen for generations. "Do you believe the story?" Claire asked. Ethan turned around. "What story?" "The girl in the falls." Lucas smiled. "It's just an old mountain legend." Mia shook her head. "My grandmother told me never to go near waterfalls after dark." "Why?" Ethan asked. Mia lowered her voice. "Because sometimes..." She paused. "Something beautiful is waiting there." Everyone laughed. Except Ethan. For some reason, the words made him uncomfortable. By late afternoon, they finally reached the campsite. The waterfall was only a short walk away. They set up their tents, collected firewood, and prepared dinner while the sound of rushing water echoed through the forest. As night fell, they gathered around the campfire. Stories were told. Jokes were made. And eventually, everyone went to sleep. Everyone except Ethan. He couldn't explain why, but he felt as though someone was watching him. He stepped outside the tent. The moon was bright. The forest was silent. Then he heard a woman's voice. Humming. It was coming from the waterfall. Ethan grabbed his flashlight and followed the sound. The deeper he walked, the colder the air became. Finally, the trees opened. Moonlight Falls stood before him. And there she was. A young woman was sitting on a rock beside the water. She wore a simple white dress. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders. She looked at Ethan. And smiled. "You're late." Ethan froze. "Who are you?" The girl stood. "I've been waiting for you." "Waiting for me?" She nodded. "For a very long time." Ethan took a step backward. "Do I know you?" The girl's smile disappeared. "No." She looked toward the dark forest. "But you knew me once." Ethan's heart began pounding. "What does that mean?" The girl looked back at him. "Ask your friends why they brought you here." Ethan stared at her. "What?" But before he could say another word, the waterfall suddenly grew louder. He blinked. The girl was gone. Only the sound of rushing water remained. Ethan returned to the campsite. Lucas was asleep beside Mia. Adrian and Claire were inside their tent. No one had seen anything. The next morning, Ethan told them what happened. They laughed. "You were dreaming," Lucas said. "I wasn't." Mia smiled sympathetically. "Maybe you saw someone from another campsite." "There isn't another campsite." Claire looked toward the forest. "Then let's go see." The five friends walked to the waterfall. Ethan searched the rocks. Nothing. No footprints. No white dress. No mysterious woman. Nothing. Then Lucas laughed. "See? She's not real." Ethan looked at the water. For just a second, he thought he saw a woman's face beneath the surface. He blinked. It was gone. But someone was standing behind him. He turned. The Mystery Girl was watching him from between the trees. No one else reacted. She raised one finger to her lips. Don't tell them. And Ethan suddenly realized something terrifying. She wasn't asking him to keep a secret. She was warning him. Because his friends were the secret.
