Bound by chains.
VIVIENNE'S POV.
“Is she awake yet?”
“No, Alpha. She must have been hit pretty bad,”
“That's what she gets for trying to sneak off,”
“Let me know when she's awake,”
“Yes, Alpha,”
The voices went on in my head, stirring an uncomfortable feeling in my maze of darkness. I could hear them talk but I couldn't respond. I couldn't react.
“Why couldn't you walk faster?”
“Watch her and make sure she's comfortable, I have to make my report.”
The voices sounded familiar, however, I couldn't tell who they were. I floated in total silence in an abyss of darkness for hours until I managed to squint my eyes open.
For a second, everything was blurry. The figures above me gasped in silence and one of them rushed out.
“Wh… what happened?” I sat up, groaning softly as my head felt like blowing into bits.
“You'll be fine ma'am, you've been out for quite some hours, but…”
“Water. I need a drink,”
“Somebody get her a drink.” The gentle voice echoed. My vision cleared up and I got to see the man staring into my eyes like a worried father.
He pointed a flashlight in my eyes and even checked my vitals. His brown locks fell to his shoulders and his eyes looked like the river Nile.
“Who are you?” I asked, although barely audible.
“Me? You don't need to worry about that,” he smiled.
A lady walked in with a glass of water. “Here's your water,” the man stated. “Be careful, you don't want to spill it.”
“That's okay, I'm…” I tried to raise my hands to take the water with a stretch but I held a metal clang against my wrist and I pulled back.
The man stood back and looked away, knowing I was about to freak out and ask a ton of questions.
I was handcuffed to my bed. “What is this?” I asked, staring up at the two figures. “Who are you? Did you do this to me?”
“Help! Somebody get me out of this,” I screamed.
“Ma'am, if you would just calm down and let us…”.
“Get me out of this.” I sharply cut in.
He pulled back, running his hands through his hair. “Well, for starters. I'm not the one who put you in those cuffs. It's the Alpha's command. And it was a hassle having to conduct a check up.”
“What are you talking about?” I breathed heavily.
He stretched his hands out and dropped it back seconds later. “I'm Japheth, the pack's doctor. You must not know who I am but trust me, I know you,”
I wriggled my hands against the cuff but they wouldn't come off. “Why would he cuff me to the bed, get me out of here,”
“I don't know why, but my job here is done.” He turned to the maid and smiled gently. “Once the Alpha is back, let him know she's awake.”
He tilted his neck back to me and cleared his throat. “You hit the ground pretty hard yesterday night. I'll be coming for some time to make a constant check up. And maybe next time, don't try to sneak out. It doesn't always end well.”
“I'm sorry you're cuffed to the bed. I would have freed you if it were up to me.” He continued.
His voice felt like a calm evening breeze. I stared frozen at him as he kept making a light smile after his statement. He brought a different feeling to my room, the type that this palace needed.
I had almost forgotten that I was handcuffed until he walked out with his briefcase, shutting the door silently.
Then, it dawned on me like an apocalypse.
“Get me out of this,” I yelled. “Now!”
After a few minutes, Donna walked in making a worried face from merely looking at me.
“I'm sorry. I'm really sorry,” she begged. She turned to the other maid and sent her out. “It's my fault you are chained to the bed.”
“I don't care whose fault it is, just get me out of this,”
“I can't, nobody can except alpha give the order,” she got on her knees and clasped her hands together. “Please, don't tell them that I was the one that encouraged you to run off. He'll get rid of me, I'll…. Please”
“Calm down, I'm not telling him anything,” I spat out. “What happened? Who caught me? I thought there'd be nobody on guard. You marked it out, right?”
Donna stood up to her feet and walked up to the door, making sure it was locked. “I think the Alpha has eyes on you. He's watching you even when we think he isn't,”
“Stephen was the one that stopped you, and you have been unconscious all night.”
“Is that why he chained me to my bed? So I… so I wouldn't… try to escape again?” I said.
“I'm sorry,” she replied after a brief pause.
I shut my eyes to cry again. Lysander was right. I should have thought it through. I shouldn't have acted impulsively. “Go, I want to be left alone,” I said.
“But…”
“Please, Donna. Leave me alone.” I interrupted sharply.
She hesitated to leave, but walked out of the door having accepted that it was what I wanted. The cuffs were a wake up call.
It was a clear picture of what I needed to know. Escape wasn't an option.
I stayed for hours in that position until the sun took a break, ushering the night sky to take their duties.
I could only try to doze off in my miserable state, but before I could do that, the door flung open and he walked in, hands clenched into fists.
“How many strikes did I mention that you have?” He asked, standing across from me with corporate wear. His tie was loose and the first two buttons on his shirt were hanging loose.
“Alph…” I muttered, pulling back to my bed frame.
“You have exhausted all three of them. I should send you to one of my dungeons to live out the rest of your miserable life,”
“Maybe that will set your head straight.
“No. No please. I promise to be good. I promise to…”
“Silence! I have made my decision and there's nothing that will change my mind,”.
