A change in fate.
Michael's POV.
It can't be true, she was bluffing. She had to be joking.
Brianna couldn't get pregnant. She couldn't bear my child. It went against everything I knew. Everything I believed.
“You don't look so thrilled, Alpha,” she glared at Vivienne and stared back at me. She rubbed her stomach and smiled even wider.
“You know I'm not lying. You took my virginity, and I haven't slept with anyone since our sudden split...”
“You can't be pregnant,” I sprung up to my feet. “That baby's not mine.”
“You're pregnant!” Vivienne gasped aloud, covering her mouth in shock. She exchanged glances between us and shook her head. “Oh my gosh! How? When?”
“Since about a month ago. I just found out,” Brianna gloated, smacking her lips as she turned back to look at me. She rubbed her hands gently against her stomach and swirled her hair.
The air was dead silent as I gaped at her. My mind reeled endlessly with thoughts as if I had just been hit by an instant tornado. My eyes bulged in Brianna's direction, blinking profusely. I couldn't believe it.
Was she saying the truth? There was no way she would like to me, lie to the Alpha for a second time.
She snapped her fingers in the air and I pulled back as though I had just woken up from a nightmare only to realize that it was never a nightmare but a reality.
How could this be? I thought to myself.
Was the premonition ruined? What about the bloodline? It had to be someone from a line of… it was supposed to be Vivienne.
She was supposed to bear my child.
Not Brianna. Not the lady with a shady past and a broken home that she tried to keep together with a faint smile.
Brianna had always wanted me from the start. She never showed fear when other women cowered in fright. Her eyes always lit up around me, but there was something about it. Something dark, inexplicable and cunning.
My wolf could feel there was something she was hiding, and it turned out to be the truth. Her family was never special, nor was she.
“The silence is awkward, say something, Alpha. Anything,” she moved closer, stretching her hands forward.
Vivienne moved closer in her direction, eyes blank yet curious. Her fingers twitched and her heart pounded against her chest.
“But… I” she glanced at me, her jaws slowly falling open in shock. She placed her hand on her chest and froze for another second. “You are pregnant?” She asked again.
Brianna gruffed and rolled her eyes. “How many more times do I have to say this? Yes, yes Viv, I am pregnant. How hard is that to get?” She hissed.
Vivienne stared back at me, but I kept my eyes peeled at Brianna, hoping to catch her when she would slip off, when she would break character and i would get to see her reveal that she was only acting up for my attention.
But it never came. No matter how hard I tried to read the situation, she never gave off the vibe that she was faking it.
Finally, I tilted in Vivienne’s direction, watching as she bit down on her lips. She looked like her world has crashed into an apocalypse for the second time.
I thought she would be the one to bear my child. She would be the one to bring forth a new era for Lycans like me. But I was wrong. There was a miscalculation and I never knew until now.
Fate had other plans, reality shred my visions to pieces.
Brianna was carrying my child,a Lycan heir.
A smug expression lit up on her face as I turned back at her. She gleamed with triumph as she stopped a few inches away from the little flight if stairs. I could see the determination in her eyes. She was thrilled to be back into my life. She knew I couldn't shut her out anymore.
Vivienne could barely watch Brianna, her lips curled downwards and sweat trickled down her chin. She sniffled and in a sudden moment, she turned away from the both of us, holding her fabric of her skirt from crawling on the floor.
Then, she ran straight out the door, her footsteps echoing in the air like a trumpet. She raced out of the room as if she had been punched in the guts.
If only she could have sat back wherever she was. But no, she had to walk in on our discussion. She had to hear all that.
“Good riddance,” Brianna hissed. “Alpha, I await your…”
“Can you just shut your mouth for one f*****g moment,” I snapped.
She gasped audibly, her hands covering her mouth. “I certainly hope I haven't offended you,”
“Your presence here offends me,” I fired almost immediately.
“It does?” She faked a curious look, staring sideways and pressing her lips. “Well, forgive me, bit you have me your seed, it's time your nurture it,” a smug expression lit up on her expression.
“You are crazy,” I blared. “There is no way I'm letting you in my pack house. This is my place, and I don't want you. I have no need for you. I thought I made myself…”
“But I'm with your child.” She snapped, leaning closer. “I'm carrying a Lycan heir. You thought it was impossible but here I am,”
“That is not my child!” I fired.
She gulped hard, slowly taking two steps back. Then, she stared at the doorway and tightened her grasp on her stomach.
“It is not your child, right?” A dark snicker parted her lips. She looked up at me and her smile turned wider. “Then I hope you don't mind losing a Lycan heir? After all it isn't yours, right?”
“What!” I sprang up, shoulders pumped and my teeth gritted hard. “Is that a threat?” I thundered.
She cackled and shook her head with an intense stare. “It can't be a threat if you think the baby is not yours. Let's hope you don't get a curse for abandoning me, for abandoning your child… your heir,” she screamed.
My nostrils flared up as my veins pumped faster. But she was right. I couldn't let anything happen to her child.
If it was really mine, then the baby had to be protected. Brianna would become a target and the enemies would want her dead.
I needed her close for her safety. For the baby's safety.
But watching her settle in my manor was going to be a cold dread. Plans were going to change when the news gets out of her pregnancy.
How safe was she going to be? How frequent were the attacks I tried to keep a secret going to remain hidden? Was Vivienne as special as I thought she was?b
