Moonlight encounter
Seline polished a wine glass with a white cloth, her eyes scanning the bustling bar. Regulars chatted with her like old friends, while newcomers received warm smiles. Behind the counter, she moved with practiced ease, mixing drinks and dispensing witty remarks. "Hey, Seline, the usual?" a familiar voice asked, and she slid a perfectly crafted Old Fashioned down the bar. As she worked, snippets of conversation revealed her life: a single mom, working hard to provide for her kid, finding solace in her routine. Her staff respected her, and customers adored her. As she poured coffee for another customer, her phone buzzed with an incoming call. She excused herself to answer, her expression darkening as she listened to her landlord's abrasive voice on the other end. "You're late with the rent again, Seline. You know the terms of our agreement," the landlord growled. Seline's frustration simmered just below the surface as she tried to reason with him. Finally, she'd had enough. "I'll get it to you by the end of the week, okay? Can I go now?" She hung up and let out a deep breath before stepping outside for a quick smoke break. The cool evening air was a welcome respite from the café's warmth. As she lit her cigarette, she noticed a pair of panther shifters lurking in the shadows, their eyes fixed intently on her. Seline's instincts kicked in, and she prepared for a confrontation. The shifters sauntered over, their movements fluid and menacing. "Well, well, well. What do we have here?" one of them sneered. Just as things were about to escalate, a deep voice intervened. "Is there a problem here?" Seline's gaze shifted to the speaker, and her heart skipped a beat. Austin stood tall, his piercing blue eyes fixed on the shifters. For a moment, Seline forgot to breathe. What was he doing here? The shifters, sensing Austin's authority, backed off with a snarl. "This isn't over," one of them hissed before they disappeared into the night. Seline turned to Austin, her voice barely above a whisper. "Thanks for the save. But what are you doing here?" Austin's expression was unreadable, but his eyes seemed to hold a hint of amusement. "Just keeping an eye on things. You're quite the popular lady, Seline." Seline raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Popular?" Austin's smile was a slow burn. "Let's just say you're on a lot of people's radars. You might want to be more careful." As Austin turned to leave, Seline felt a shiver run down her spine. What did he mean? And why did she feel like her life was about to get a whole lot more complicated? As Austin walked away, Seline couldn't shake off the feeling that her life was indeed about to take a drastic turn. The mysterious warning and Austin's enigmatic presence left her with more questions than answers. She finished her cigarette, lost in thought, before returning to the café. The warmth and chatter enveloped her like a comforting blanket, but her mind lingered on the encounter outside. Back behind the counter, Seline's eyes drifted toward the door, half-expecting Austin to reappear. Instead, her gaze met the burly man's, still nursing his whiskey in the corner. His eyes seemed to hold a calculating intensity, making Seline's instincts prickle. She made a mental note to keep a close eye on him, wondering if he might be connected to the panther shifters or Austin's cryptic warning. As the night wore on, Seline's senses remained on high alert, her mind racing with possibilities. Just as she was starting to feel like she was getting a handle on things, a figure slipped into the café, catching her attention. It was a woman with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair, her presence exuding an air of quiet confidence. The woman's gaze locked onto Seline, and she smiled, her lips curving upward. "Seline, we've been looking for you," she said, her voice low and mysterious. Seline's heart skipped a beat as she wondered what new developments this stranger would bring. The woman's smile seemed to hold a hint of familiarity, but Seline couldn't quite place her. "Can I help you?" Seline asked, her tone neutral, as she wiped down the counter. The woman's eyes sparkled with amusement. "I think you can. My name is Lena. I've heard a lot about your... establishment." Seline's instincts prickled, sensing there was more to Lena's words than met the eye. "What can I get you?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation toward more mundane topics. Lena's gaze lingered on Seline before she nodded toward the menu. "Just coffee, black." As Seline poured the coffee, she couldn't help but notice Lena's eyes scanning the café, taking in every detail. It was as if she was searching for something or someone. "So, Lena," Seline said, handing her the coffee, "what brings you here tonight?" Lena's smile returned, and she leaned in, her voice taking on a conspiratorial tone. "Let's just say I'm here to discuss a... business opportunity. One that could change your life, Seline." Seline's curiosity was piqued, but her wariness remained. Who was this woman, and what did she want? As she watched Lena take a sip of her coffee, Seline couldn't shake the feeling that her life was about to take a drastic turn, one that might lead her down a path from which there was no return. Seline's eyes narrowed slightly as she watched Lena take a sip of her coffee, her mind racing with possibilities. A business opportunity that could change her life? What did Lena mean? And what kind of opportunity would she be willing to discuss in a place like this? "I'm intrigued," Seline said, trying to keep her tone neutral. "But I have to warn you, I'm not easily swayed by promises of big changes. What makes you think I'd be interested in what you have to offer?" Lena's smile grew wider, and she leaned in closer. "Let's just say I know a thing or two about you, Seline. I know you're struggling to keep your café afloat, and I know you're not just serving coffee to your customers. You're serving hope, and that's something I want to be a part of."
