Mitch sat back in the chair that he sat in at Jake and Emmett’s table. He rubbed at his cheeks for the thousandth time. They had come in from the car, sat at the table, made coffee and listened to Jake. While talking he had repeatedly taken his hair out from its ponytail, ran his hands through his hair, then put it back up again. He was upset and restless, but what he knew needed to be said. Emmett had sat by Jake, with his arm across the back of Jake’s chair, being a quiet strong support. Mitch sat across from them listening. It didn’t take long into their conversation, tears streaked out of Jake’s eyes. He grabbed a napkin, quickly wiped his face and continued talking.
