Prologue
"Did you get them?" Sparrow asked nervously.
"Yes" replied the Anointed siren.
"Go then, I will take the punishment for loosing them. Hide them well, and don't come back."
Sparrow swims away from the magically hidden reef at the edge of the city. The Anointed siren watches as she goes, Sparrow glitters golden light as her fins shift back and forth in the shallow waters of the reef. Her hair is of pure sunlight against her dark complexion.
"I will miss you friend" the Anointed says, knowing it is death they both face.
Preparing the eggs to go on land takes a lot of magic, and she is well hidden for now.
"I call upon the sand, I call upon the sky, I call upon the sun, and I call upon the moon hear me!"
She demands from the gods. Just then a school of beautiful fish swim toward the inside of the reef they swim around the eggs. Their energy, their life, their bones fused together to form a hard shell around the soft eggs. Sparkling pink, blue, green, red, and orange scales start to grow down the eggs to engulf the hard shell. It is the most magnificent sight the Anointed has ever witnessed.
The Anointed starts crying at the sight! The gods are helping her! She thought she was going to have to be the sacrifice to protect the future. She carefully picked up each egg and wrapped it in sea weed. Using magic she made a bag to hold the five eggs in. She was prepared to go on land. Sparrow thinks I am hiding them but I can't just abandon them they need to be watched over. Come littles I will keep you safe.
The Anointed swam as fast as she could out of the reef. Her dark green hair and dull green skin began to lighten the closer she gets to land. Her magic is fading but she has to finish! She emerges from the water olive complexion with jet black hair, her eyes stay emerald green she has run out of energy collapsing on the beach the last of her forest green tail sheds off and soaks in to her olive legs. The last thought is of her future and the future of the siren she held in her pack.
*****
Rhys and Seeta were walking along the beach like they always did every evening after the dinner rush at the inn. Silently taking in the beautiful view of blue sky slowly melting into pinks and purples over the ocean. The salt spray filling the air with the familiar comforting sent of home. Their music was the tide hitting the sand and the gulls searching for a last minute meal before the sun sets.
Seeta though she saw a pink flash up ahead toward the waters edge.
"Hey love, did you see that?" She said as she starts to walk faster.
Rhys doesn't even have time to reply as he watches Seeta rush off leaving half footprints in the cream colored sand. Her short ebony hair swaying back and forth in time to her petite framed steps. He never minded watching her graceful stride. He watches her bend over with a joyful playfulness.
"Rhys!" She yells, "it's a baby! Just laying here by the water!"
She reaches down pushing away fish bones and pink fish scales, to gently pick up a beautiful baby girl!
"Rhys, my prayers have been answered! The ocean has given us a baby! She is perfect isn't she!"
Not waiting for him to reply she rushes off in the direction of the Sea Side Inn. The wind bringing his wife's sweet voice back to him.
"I will call you Ines, little one. Don't you worry, mama has you now. I know just the thing to fill that little pink belly of ..."
Her words are lost to the wind as she gets farther away.
"Sigh"
Looking down Rhys sees something in the sand. He reaches down and picks up a sandy wet blanket one side decorated in pink scales. Wrapped in the blanket is a seashell necklace. Thinking back on the past few years it has been so painful, miscarriage after miscarriage. He runs his fingers through his inch length light brown hair.
"For my wife sake," he speaks to the ocean "please let us keep Ines. Seeta and I need this baby." He pleades.
The Anointed watches as the man walks back up the beach. Was this fated? All the other eggs were still snug in her pack. Why would the gods help her just for her to loose one? She felt lucky she had enough energy to make the necklace and blanket while the land walkers were occupied with the baby. She can't stay by the sea someone might be looking for them by now.
She slowly emerges from her hiding place. The sun is almost swallowed by the sea casting the entire sky in red and purple darkness. Following the footsteps with her eyes she decides to find a place to rest for the night. She starts following the two sets of footprints in the sand. Contemplating what she should do. No, having one of the five Royal family lines raised by the land walkers no! She will have to take her back.
