Chapter 4

1965 Words
I’m in a daze when I get to second period. I’m still happy that Michelle is no longer class. I don’t notice that someone is sitting in my seat when I get to class. I only realize when he looks up at me. Who is this boy? He has really nice hair and eyes. His hair is black and his eyes are so dark they look black. That’s a bit creepy...             “Yes,” he asks me in a cold voice. He raises one of his eyebrows. A shiver goes up my spine when I hear his voice. I feel like his stare is piercing right through me. The look he’s giving me causes another shiver to go up my spine.             “I-I’m s-sorry, but y-you’re s-sitting in my s-seat,” I respond as politely as I can while stuttering. He smiles at me and stands up.             “I’m sorry I was sitting in your seat, ma’am,” he says politely and smiles at me again. The smile lightens up his features. I smile back and sit down in my seat. He sits behind me. No one is sitting there anyway.             I feel a tap on my shoulder a couple of seconds later. I turn around to look at him. “Yes?”             “Do you think you can show me around the school? I’m new here and no one else has even acknowledged me yet.”             “Sure, I would love to show you around. My name is Aubrey, but you can call me Bre,” I respond while shooting him a sweet smile.             “Well isn’t that a lovely name. My name is Alexander. It’s nice to meet you,” he responds and holds out his hand to me. I take his hand in mine and we shake hands. His hands are very warm and it feels nice on my skin. I feel my cheeks starting to turn red. My heart is racing in my chest.               “N-Nice to meet you as w-well,” I respond. Why am I stuttering so much around him? My heart is going thump, thump, in my chest.             He hands me his schedule so I can look it over. We are in all of the same classes. I’m a bit surprised right now. “It looks like we are in all of the same classes together. That will make showing you around the school a lot easier now.”              “Awesome, at least I will have a friend in class now. If you would like to be friends of course,” he responds with a wide smile. I’m in shock right now. Does he really want to be friends with me? I look down at the ground. It will be nice to have a new friend, but why would he want to be friends with me? We literally just met a few minutes ago. I’m still an emotional wreck right now. I look back up at him again. He still has a smile on his face.             “Y-You want to be my f-friend,” I question and then look down at the ground again. For some reason I’m really embarrassed right now. I don’t know why.              “Sure, why wouldn’t I be? You seem like a nice girl.”             I nod and stare at the notebook that’s sitting on my desk. Mr. Marshall hasn’t started class yet. I’m surprised. Wait, where is Mr. Marshall? He isn’t even in the classroom yet. I wonder if he’s going to be late today. The assistant principal walks by and notices we don’t have a teacher. I feel my phone going off in my pocket, but I ignore it. I don’t answer texts while I’m in class most of the time. I only text when I’m really bored in class. History class is the only class I get bored in. History is not my best subject.             I open my backpack and pull out a book. The assistant principal wants us to do something constructive besides talking. The assistant principal is a really crabby old lady. A lot of the students in our school don’t follow the rules. That really irks her for some reason. I hear people call her all sorts of names. I’m probably one of the only students that won’t call her names. It’s better to be respectful to others. That’s why a lot of the teachers love me. I’m also a very quiet person unlike, Nikki.             I feel another tap on my shoulder. I look back at Alexander. “What are you reading?”             “I’m reading a vampire story and no, it’s not Twilight.”             “Which series are you currently reading?”             “The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd series; I’ve actually read it before, but I love it so much,” I respond. After that brief conversation I go back to reading my book. I actually hate being interrupted while I’m reading. I don’t mind that Alexander interrupted me. He doesn’t know me well yet. I have no idea what he’s doing right now either. We don’t speak for the rest of class. I put my book back in my backpack when I hear the bell ring. Alex is waiting for me at the door.             “Hey Alexander, do you mind if I call you Alex?”               “No, I don’t mind. That’s what all my old friends used to call me.”             I show Alex to our next class. We don’t speak much while walking to class. It’s a little awkward. We have another substitute for third period. My math teacher has already told us that he is going to be out. He has a convention that he needs to go to. It was only for math teachers. English teachers have the same kind of conventions as well. I check my phone when I get to math class. It’s Nicole telling me that she wasn’t going to be in school after all. She’s going to be at her grandmother’s house to help take care of her. Her grandmother has been pretty sick for a while. Her mother isn’t going to be able to today. I sigh because I don’t know what to do with myself at lunch. I mainly talk to Nicole. We do have other friends sitting with us. My friends, Becky and Jess aren’t as happy go lucky as Nicole is. Nicole makes lunch fun for us.             I’m surprised to see that the cow is still in my third period class. They should have switched her out of this class as well. She glares at me from her seat. I realize that Alex is sitting next to me yet again. I smile at him and he smiles back. He eyes the cow sitting in the back of the room. She’s still glaring at me.  When she realizes that Alex is looking at her she begins to blush. I can see she finds him attractive, but I don’t care what she thinks of him. Her opinions don’t matter to me.             Alex writes something on a piece of paper and then he hands it to me.             “Why is that girl in the back glaring at you?”             “Well...I punched her in the face yesterday and broke her nose.”                   Alex shoots me a shocked look when he finishes reading my response. I’m not sure why he looks so shocked. He hasn’t been around me long enough to know me!             “I can’t imagine you punching someone in the face. You seem to be really nice to others. I only just met you and you’re already helping me out. I really appreciate it by the way.”             “Well something occurred between us yesterday. I don’t really want to talk about it right. Oh, no problem, I don’t mind helping a fellow student in need.”             “Alright, I hope you tell me later, little girlie,” he responds and winks at me. Did he really just call me “little girlie”? No one has ever called me that before. I pull out my book again because I’m bored. Plus I stopped at a really good part when the bell rang. I glance over at Alex a few times. He is writing something down in his notebook. I wonder what he’s writing about, but I don’t ask. We don’t speak again for the rest of class.             My mind starts to wander while I’m reading. Images of Jonathan and I start to go through my mind again. Why am I still thinking about him? He hurt me pretty deeply. I don’t need him. He doesn’t need me...I want the memories of him to stop. I don’t get my wish. Deep down in my heart I know that I still have strong feelings for him. I cannot figure out why after everything that’s happened. I don’t know how to think or feel anymore... ~             Lunch time is approaching quickly. Alex and I go our separate ways when lunch time comes around. He tells me that he’ll meet me by the cafeteria door when lunch ends. I do offer him a seat at my lunch table, but he refuses.             I have so many things on my mind at lunch that I don’t speak to my friends much. Becky and Jess are having their “normal” lunchtime discussion. Their “normal” conversation usually involves talking about their boyfriends. I don’t have anything to add to the conversation since I’m single again. Their words go through one ear and out the other. I’m concentrating on my own thoughts right now. They both shoot me a concerned expression. They probably think that I’m mad at them. That is not the case at all. I really don’t have anything to say.               “I heard that a new kid started school today. His name is Alexander Wood. A lot of people are saying that he’s really mysterious. I’ve also heard that he’s only spoken to one person so far. He has been following her around like a lost puppy.”             “I know and it seems like he already has a crush on her. They only just met today. So I find that a little weird. I heard that Michelle is jealous already. She’s saying that she finds the new guy attractive, but she is already dating Jonathon. She can’t have him,” Becky responds. Hearing what Becky said makes me interested in the conversation.             “Hey! He doesn’t have a crush on the girl he’s been walking around with! She’s just showing him where his classes are,” I respond. Maybe I shouldn’t have opened my mouth. They are giving me a mischievous looks. This is not going to go over well...
