College life, they say, is HARD.
They say you will get used to sleeping at midnight or even at dawn just because of the work that you need to finish, all those experiments that you need to perform accurately (especially with our course, BMLS) and, in addition, are those terror instructors that would surely complete the terror package of COLLEGE LiFE. June 17, 2013. It was the first day of me being a college student, specifically, a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science student at Lyceum-Northwestern University. I was with April Mae that day, my high school classmate, which turned out to be that we were on the same course. I remembered that on this day, I didn’t bring my school load or my printed schedule. I don’t know if it was nervousness or excitement that made me forget it at our house, which is a two-way ride from the location of the school. I didn’t want to go back to our house just to get it and come back exhausted. The effort of me dressing and wanting to look nicely would be whooshed if I did that. Luckily, I’m with April, so we just used hers and started to look, or maybe I could use the word search? We SEARCHED for our rooms and, luckily, we didn’t make much of an effort to roam around the wide campus because April was already guided by her sister to where those and that buildings were located. So we found our first room, which was our psychology. I was overwhelmed by the number of people that were already there. We were A LOT =0 Our department only had 1 block for this year, so we were all sited in a room filled with 43 students. It was time for making introductions in front of the class, the usual routine during the first day. When I was sitting in my chair, I was not nervous about introducing myself because I had experienced it so many times and had introductions and Blah! Blah! Blah!, but when it was my turn, I think they could see that I was shaking. I thought that time that I needed to control myself or else I would stutter in front or wouldn’t even finish my introduction and have that, I would surely embarrass myself and have a laughing memory on the first day of class. But with God’s grace, I survived  We were dismissed when all was finished. We were ready to go out when Villamor, our schoolmate, introduced us to Patricia. She was also shy as I was at that time when we were greeting each other. We also met Mary Joie, Mara, Judy Ann, Lyra, Jeric and Annie along the way. They were the first that we met. This day passed with the same routine of introductions. As time flew, days passed and months had gone. When we were together studying and climbing those unending stairs, we had a lot of fun, enjoyable, fun, exciting moments. One of these moments that I would surely not forget is when we were having our practice for the Interpretative Dance for our celebration of “Buwan ng Wika”. It was a month of rain, so Dagupan City was flooded. We were supposed to meet up at Nepo Mall and go to San Fabian for our practice. When we were ready to go, we walked through the roads of Dagupan and ended up wetting our feet from the flood because we didn’t have anywhere to go through but that path. Even though we were soaked with dirty water, we still needed to continue the practice and it was successful. Yeah, we could say that, but it would be better if we were completed as a group at that time. Let’s talk about the contest properly. We didn’t get the title, but at least we know that we danced with our hearts out. We just let it go and moved on =D We went to CSi Lucao to celebrate and maybe give credit for our hard work in making the dance WORK. We were so happy at that time. We didn’t need to win the competition (but it is always nice to win), as long as we were united, we were happy. We went home that day exhausted but happy and brought home full of memories. All these times that we spent schooling, YES! A Big YES! We gained really dark bags under our eyes, those pimples that unendingly filled our faces and those headaches that we experienced (some even got really sick). We will treasure those memories forever. Not only the hardships that we faced in pursuing our course, our dream, but also those fun times that we made with our new-found friends. “HINDI KUMPLETO ANG PAG-AARAL KUNG WALANG KALOKOHAN” =DDDDD By: Maybel Narvas
