Mom, we have to talk

 Alexis

It took me some time to stop crying and I started to realize what I needed the most. I needed my best friend, my pillar of strength, my mother.

“I want to go back to my mom and talk to her about everything.”

Dereck seemed to be conflicted about my request but decided to give me a ride to my parental home.

I wasn’t even on the doorstep as my mum wrapped her arms around me and gave me a kiss on the forehead

“Alexis, I have missed you so much. Do you know how worried I was when you called and told me about your new boyfriend and your vacation plans.”

She noticed Dereck and glanced in his direction. Dereck was speechless and his cheeks became bright red.

“Well come on in and lets talk, shall we?”

Dereck and I followed her into the house “boyfriend huh?”, Dereck said.

“Well I needed an excuse, you don’t have to play along much longer. I will tell her everything”

His mouth turned into a grim line and he just nodded.

“So Alexis, tell me who is your boyfriend and where have you two lovebirds been the last couple days?”

“Well mom, this is Dereck and he is not really my boyfriend. I was hit by his car and he brought me to a save place, because he saw something in me. Something you might not be able to understand and please mom don’t think I am crazy or something but I am a shape shifter and he is one as well. We can transform ..” I stopped as I saw her face, there was no shock or horror in her eyes, just pain.

“What’s wrong?”

“ I really hoped that it wasn’t in your genes. I wanted you to have a normal life,” she gabbled.

“Wait what do you mean mom?”

“You know that this house was part of our families properties for as long as I can remember and I started to live here after my parents had died. One night I heard a high-pitched noise, it sounded like a yelp and I hurried outside. There he was, a huge silver colored wolf starring at me with his piercing blue eyes. I was terrified at first but then I saw his injured back and decided to help him. I tired to move slowly not to anger him and surprisingly he allowed me to come closer and clean his wound. I gave him some raw meat from the fridge and said goodbye. The next day I opened the door and found him laying on the veranda snoring.

I was really confused; I have never seen a wild wolf as huge but still as tame as this one. He blinked and then opened his huge eyes, staring at me. Something about his behavior made me want to cuddle and pet him. He seemed to have noticed my thoughts and showed me his belly. We became friends and after some weeks he stood in front of me and started to lose all his fur, his body became humanoid and there he was, the most handsome man, completely naked. I lost consciousness because of the shock and woke up a few minutes later by his side. He kneeled in front of my bed and held my hand. He told me that he was a shape shifter and that he saw me in his visions of the future. He always said it was his second chance at happiness and that he would do everything for me. We fell deeply in love and spent months underneath the bed sheets in this house. He never wanted anyone to know about me because it was too dangerous. I never understood why until SHE entered my house without warning. Her name was Luise. She slammed the door open and threw Andrew against a wall. >> You don’t deserve happiness after you took mine from me, she said<< He wanted to protect me and tried to reason with her but she was furious. So he did what he had to do, and left with her under the condition that no harm would come over me. I never saw him again.”

Dereck and I listened carefully and at the end of moms’ story I sobbed, and Dereck looked stunned as f**k.

“Ahm you want so say that Alexis is the natural child of you and Andrew? Well shape shifters can’t have children. A lot of us tried but failed miserably”

“ Yes that’s what I want to say. Andrew never knew that I was pregnant in the first place.”

This whole story was just too much to carry and I needed a few minutes to regain my composure.

“ Mom , I had a vision too. I saw the silver wolf dying. He died. Mom you don’t have to live with the uncertainty anymore. He died a long time ago, before I was born. He was the chief of Derecks pack, and he was loved. You will always have a piece of him in me.” I hugged her with all the love I could give and felt her crumble down in my arms. Her sobs were heartbreaking and even Dereck was close to tears.

She tried to stand up and sobbed “ ..hh Show {sneezing} me your oth.. er form.”

I didn’t know what to say, as I was not in control of my inner wolf, I felt really insecure about her request.

Dereck took my hands in his and we locked eyes. “Deep breaths Alexis. In …. and … out”
