CHAPTER 1
Billy held his cell to his ear as he fumbled for his keys. "Cory, I'm really sorry. I just haven't had time."
"But when will you have time? I really want to move on this book, Billy. I gave it to you a month ago," Cory whined on the other end.
Billy turned the key and pushed his way into his apartment. Tossing his keys in the bowl next to the door, "I've been working twelve hours a day, Cory. I haven't had a day off in three weeks. I promise. Erik is out of town so I'll have Saturday and Sunday to get it done."
"Why not tonight?" Cory asked.
Sighing, Billy replied, "Because I need to eat, do laundry, and clean my place. I haven't dusted in three damn weeks."
"I can do it," Cory said quickly.
Billy laughed, "Cory you hate cleaning."
"Not if it will get you to edit my book," Cory replied.
Billy looked around his small studio apartment. The kitchen still had his dishes in the sink from this morning and manuscripts littered his table top. He knew he had a lot to get done, but Cory and he had been friends since practically birth.
"Fine, but pick up a pizza on your way. That will give me a chance to take a shower and make a fresh pot of coffee."
Cory let out a squeal. "Deal! I'll be there in about thirty minutes."
Billy hung up and tossed his phone next to his keys. Walking to the table, he began to dig through the pile of manuscripts he had yet to edit until he came to the one he was looking for.
"Dominic's Passion by Cory West. Well, the title is catchy," Billy muttered to himself as he set it to the side and quickly stacked the others and placed them on the kitchen counter.
Picking up the manuscript, Billy glanced through the first chapter as he made his way to his room.
Placing the manuscript on his scanner, he hit the scan button. Billy quickly undressed and went into the shower.
Knowing that Cory would be here soon, Billy quickly washed and dried himself, grabbing some fresh clothing from his dresser.
After he was dressed, Billy grabbed the manuscript and continued reading as he made his way to his coffee pot and made a fresh pot.
The door bell rang, and Billy stood up yelling, "Cory I keep telling you, you are going to get a speeding ticket."
Not bothering to look through his peep hole, Billy was surprised to see Dimitri standing in front of him and not his best friend.
Dimitri was the top author at the publishing company he has been working at for the past three months. It was hard work, but Billy loved every minute of it. Well, every minute except the ones he had to spend with Dimitri.
This man was the biggest ass hat Billy ever had to breathe the same air with, and Billy had met plenty of ass hats. Dimitri thought he was the best romance author of all time. The problem was, Billy had never liked the man's books, even before he was forced to edit them.
Billy hated reading his manuscripts. The man liked words, lots and lots of words. That in itself wouldn't be bad if they were actually needed to bring a story alive. However, his seemed to be either filler, or the man just liked to talk. There was no action or depth to any of the crap the man submitted. How he had become a top selling author was just beyond Billy.
The real problem Billy had was that the man would not stop hitting on him. Constantly, Dimitri would invade his personal space. Billy had gone to Erik a couple of times to talk about it, but then Erik would start talking about how wonderful Dimitri was and how great the man was for the company.
Billy didn't have the heart to complain and just kept telling himself that the man would eventually get the message and back off. Well after their last meeting, Billy had thought for sure he wouldn't have to worry about the man, but seeing him standing in front of him had Billy confused and a little nervous.
Trying not to show his fear, Billy couldn't keep himself from stammering, "W...What a..are you doing here?"
Dimitri didn't say anything, but his smile held a hint of something that put Billy on edge.
"I don't know...why...I thought you were...were through with our firm?" Billy stuttered.
When Billy had gone to return the edits, Dimitri had become furious on his suggestions to add some kind of life to what he had created. It ended with Dimitri throwing the edits at his head, calling him a f*****g i***t, and screaming he was going to start looking for another publisher.
Billy did not look forward to telling Erik that bit of news.
Unsure as to why the man was standing there or how he had even known where Billy lived, he still refused to talk. It was disconcerting and if Billy didn't know better, it was like the man was enjoying Billy's discomfort, so Billy tried once more, "Dimitri, why are you here?"
Dimitri gave him, what Billy figured the man thought, an innocent look, "I was very upset by the way I treated you and came here to apologize."
Billy gave a nervous smile, "There is no need, but thank you. You really didn't have to come all this way for that."
Dimitri raised a brow, then gave Billy that look that always had Billy feeling the need to shower.
Before Dimitri could say anything, Billy quickly said, "Again, thank you for coming by, but I'm awfully tired."
As he started to close the door, Dimitri quickly put his hand on it, firmly stopping it from shutting, "Oh please, allow me to come in. I would like to talk to you about the new book I am writing."
Billy tilted his head in confusion, "I thought you were going to go to a new publisher?"
"Oh, now that was just me blowing off steam. I think if you and I talk, we can come up with a fair understanding," Dimitri whispered as he walked into Billy's home.
Billy most certainly didn't like the look Dimitri was giving him, but if it meant the man might stay with the company, he owed it to Erik to at least try.
Billy would do just about anything for Erik. The only one that knew how he felt about his boss, was his best friend, and often they argued because of the lengths Billy had gone just to spend time with the man.
He may not personally care for Dimitri, but Erik really seemed to like the man and always talked about how Dimitri represented the vampire race as loving and caring, and not the monsters others tended to turn towards, when writing.
Personally, the very thought of a vampire biting into him, scared the s**t out of Billy. It also grossed Billy out. Who the hell would want someone sucking your blood from your body? Just thinking about the likelihood of catching disease should turn others away, but paranormal romance was one of the best sellers Romancing the Readers Publishers sold.
"Billy, I was a complete imbecile and tyrant. Allow me to make amends so we can put this nonsense behind us and move forward. Besides, I have some questions about the edits you did on my last book. I don't want to make the same mistakes on this one. Please talk with me," Dimitri requested with a smile that didn't quite meet his eyes.
Billy's unease almost stopped him from agreeing, but then he thought about how upset Erik would be if they lost this account.
Opening the door, Billy placed the manuscript next to his keys, turned to his small kitchen, Billy sighed, asking, "Would you like a cup of coffee."
Dimitri scoffed, "Most certainly not. Maybe a nice chardonnay?"
"I don't drink, Mr. Vaag," Billy responded.
"Dimitri, please," the man said as he stood much too close for Billy's comfort.
Pouring his coffee, Billy made his way to the table, saying, "I would rather keep this professional."
"Oh Billy, I think we can do much better than be professional. I think if you and I got a bit closer, we might be able to come to a real understanding," Dimitri replied in a sultry tone as he made his way closer to Billy, once more.
"Mr. Vaag, I don't mean to come off as rude or unappreciative, but I don't mix business with pleasure," Billy replied as he backed further into the table.
Dimitri closed their space even more and the large bulge pushing into Billy made him feel queasy, so moving to the side, Billy breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully Dimitri seemed to get his meaning and stepped slightly to the side, allowing Billy to put space between him and Mr. Icky.
"I see you like to be courted. So why don't you and I get out of here, go have a few drinks, talk the small talk crap, then come back and f**k all night," Dimitri said suggestively.
Just that image had Billy ready to puke, "Uh...Like I uh ...Like I said...I don't mix business and pleasure," Billy stammered as he tried to make his way to the other side of the table.
Dimitri cut him off, "I don't like being given the run around, Billy. I am not a patient man. I want you and it is your job to give me what it is I am asking for."
Billy's eyes went huge. "No, it's my job to edit your books and for us to come to an understanding about what is needed to make your work the best it can be for our readers."
Dimitri pushed his body into Billy's and Billy could have sworn the man's eyes were turning red, but before he got a real good look Dimitri leaned closely to his neck and ear, whispering, “It is your job to make your authors happy and feel welcomed. Now it's time for you to make me
happy."
Billy tried pushing the man off him, but it was like the man had turned to stone. Then Dimitri said even quieter, "I know you don't want me changing publishers, Billy. So I think you and I can work something out that is...satisfying to us both."
Pushing hard, Billy struggled to say, "I won't have s*x with you to keep you as a client, Dimitri.
Get off me."
"Now Billy, you have been coming on to me for months now. Making excuse after excuse to see me. You can't deny you want me," Dimitri said in a sultry tone that made Billy want to vomit.
Shaking his head, side to side, "Billy replied, "That's not true. I came to you on business."
Dimitri twisted Billy around and pushed his chest to the table. Billy fought, but the man was too f*****g strong. He tried screaming, but Dimitri had a strength like nothing Billy had ever come across before.
"Get the f**k off of me! I don't f*****g want you touching me!" Billy screamed.
Billy felt his pants being torn and then he was twisted back to face Dimitri once more. He didn't bother looking at the man, he took this one opportunity and slammed his knee as hard as he could into Dimitri's crotch.
There was a grunt, cussing then Dimitri literally growled, "You will pay for that."
Billy tried to run, but Dimitri grabbed him with more strength than any one man should have, slammed his chest back into the table and tore his pants and underwear from his body.
"No! I don't want this!" Billy screamed hearing Dimitri's zipper being lowered.
"You will be glad for it when I am done with you," Dimitri hissed.
Billy fought as hard as he could and was about to vomit all over the place when he felt the tip of Dimitri's c**k to his hole. This could not be happening. He was about to be raped in his home and there was nothing he could do to stop it from happening.
