PRINCE LEANDRO…
I woke up to someone murmuring beside my bed, but I was struggling to open my eyes. I heard her voice clearly, praying that I woke up because she didn't want to die since there was no proof that she was innocent.
My fingers moved. My breath caught in my throat.
“Huh?! You're awake!!” She took my hand and began rubbing hers on it. “I was so scared you wouldn't open your eyes again. This is so frightening. Since I came here, I'm now always scared, making me feel that this isn't me.”
At that time, I had already opened my eyes, but was staring at her pale face.
‘She's truly worried.’ I thought and breathed out. As far as I know, no one had ever been worried about me, because they believed I would be fine on my own.
“My Prince, should I get you water?” she finally turned to meet my eyes. “You have dark circles under your eyes. Should I help you get rid of them?”
I scoffed and nodded.
She helped me sit up, and then she rushed to the bathroom and returned with a soaked napkin.
“I should wipe your face first. But, how do I leave, dressed like this? You really slept so long, and it's noon now.”
“Noon?!” my voice rose. Could it be because of it?
I couldn't even believe that going intimate with her would sate my kyrennei, which was why I passed out suddenly. But I slept too long like she said. Unless I'm sick, I do not sleep this long.
I turned to her, “Have any of my robes.”
“What?” She got to her knees. “I'm sorry, but I can't. Just teleport me to my chamber, or freeze everyone so I can…
“Just f*****g stand and be fast.” I snapped at her and lay back again.
I didn't even wake with a headache as usual. Was everything okay with me?
When I stared at her, she quickly stood and marched to my wardrobe.
She got dressed in one of the robes I hadn't even touched for five years and came standing before me.
“My Prince, I will go get that stuff they use to remove it real quick. Should I get your meal first?”
I shook my head, “Just go…” Her presence was stirring butterflies in my belly and I did not like it.
Even though she looked like my deceased mate, I do not plan to love her. I mean, why should I love my eunuch? I didn't even know her species…and she's just doing her job.
I pinched my skin. Lean, you gotta stop overthinking. She sees me as her master and that's what I am to her. She's not being caring but doing her job diligently.
My brain was beginning to think about what I don't like. I do not look forward to having a woman under me as my bride or whatever, so all those thoughts would be better cleared from my mind.
Before an hour could elapse, she returned with several containers that she brought out in a sack.
“My Prince, I got them with the money I earned from the pleasure house. Since you're going to be paying me, I should thank you with this,” she uttered, smiling widely.
Why's she so happy? Just because I was going to be paying her again?
I kept staring at her face until she came closer and began applying all those all over my face. She massaged every corner of my eyes and I even began feeling sleepy.
“My Prince!!!”
Aldric…
The door was already unlocked, so he walked in and almost tripped.
“What is it? Did you just almost fall?” I asked him and he shook his head. “I see.”
He stared at me with his brows creased, with no word coming from him. Until Hansel was done, he said nothing but only watched until she left, then he came closer to me.
“What was going on? You let her touch you that much?” he whispered to me.
I rolled my eyes and cleared my throat. “It's just to clear the dark circles she said were under my eyes. That's all. Nothing else.”
“I see.” he licked her lips. “He's your eunuch, so…
“He? Who's that? Okay, you mean her? Hansel right?" The room was so hot that I had to stand and begin walking to the window. “Do not talk about it again. He's just doing his work.”
Aldric scoffed and came closer, “I know you so well as someone who doesn't smile. So why all those smiles while she was doing all that?”
“Forget about it,” I warned him and frowned. ‘What was even wrong with me? Was I smiling that much?’
She's not Jeyne, so I shouldn't be like this. Maybe, I should warn her to take note of her boundaries.
No! I actually allowed her to do it or she wouldn't. It's not like she forced me, and I don't want her staying far from me.
This isn't right. Whether she's far or not, should that matter? I could claim her body and blood when I needed to, apart from her normal role as an eunuch.
I shook my head. It doesn't make sense. She's only caring right? It doesn't mean anything…
…
A week later,
No matter how hard I tried to make my discussion with my eunuch strictly for work, I ended up chatting with her for so long that I lost my mind and smiled like a fool.
Truth be told, I didn't know I could ever smile again. I didn't know I would ever find someone who would sit with me, tell me stories, chat with me for so long despite our differences, someone who isn't scared of my dangerous sides and makes me happy regardless.
With her around me, I never got bored.
Aldric had tried to do all these, but I sensed fear all the time. He knew everything about me and didn't cross the line, unlike my eunuch. I wasn't even sure how much she knew about me, but she doesn't care and says anything she wants to say.
It was during our chat that she spilled something about the dream she had. She explained how she was covered in furs, running and crying in the woods, and nothing else happened.
I tried to think about it but it didn't make sense. I knew she wasn't a human, but there were so many creatures with fur.
One day, she asked me something that made my blood freeze…
“My prince, is there a species I would fall into and you would discard me?”
I hadn't answered that question because I truly had no answer. If she were a lycan, I was supposed to discard her…But I will miss her and want to keep Jeyne’s replica beside me.
She was now like the substitute of my dead mate and I didn't care, so the least I did was to warn Aldric…
“Quit finding out about her. I don't care what she is.” I told him and he pulled that baffled expression.
He said nothing, but only bowed to me.
That fateful night, I was busy staring at the rice soup that had been served before me when Aldric barged into my chamber, his face drained of blood.
“My Prince…” he came closer. “Did you kill the Minister of Affairs?”
Was that supposed to be a question? Where did he even get the audacity?
“Any problem? I have the right to kill whoever I want…”
He nodded and released a heavy breath, "That's why a report was made to the King. His death drew attention, and they have been discussing the mysterious death of people every night in the woods for years now, when the same death had finally reached the minister of affairs.” he licked his lips and resumed. “All fingers are pointed at you with proof.”
Was that so?
I shrugged my shoulders, “Then I shouldn't blood hunt for the meantime. But how am I supposed to survive if I don't bloodhunt?”
He sighed, “Can you really stand it? We need to avoid anything that would raise suspicion towards you.”
“If I can't stand it, I'll go meet my father. Who cares about being suspected?” I retorted and frowned.
