HANSEL… My fingers twitched on a fabric. I battled to open my eyes, but they seemed too heavy for me. Was I dead? Or alive? Or Somewhere? I clearly recalled everything that had happened to me, but I was sure that I lay on the floor and not on a piece of fabric. I moved my fingers again, and I happened to be correct….this was a fabric and not a floor. A sound was made around, like something that shattered on the floor, but I still couldn't open my eyes. Then came the sound of the ringing gong, sounding repeatedly in my ears. My body began heating up like I was placed on a fire. My teeth gnashed against the other. The daymares and nightmares that had become part of me began flooding in again. I felt like I was awake, yet I was also drawn into the dream I hated to be in. Again, he stood before me, but this time his back was to me. In his hands was the blood-dripping sword; his hair was rather packed into a knot this time, the sides braided. I was on the floor, kneeling, helpless, my face covered in tears. My hands were tied up behind me, my hair disheveled, scattered all over my shoulders. My body was limp, soaked in blood. I had no single strength in me. Then he turned, slowly, as though he were going to m******e me. Our eyes locked with each other, and my heart leaped to my throat. My breath caught, and I jerked up from wherever I was in reality, my eyes grew large in terror, my heart palpitating beyond my control. What was that? I hadn't had this dream like this before. It can't be. He was the man from last night, tall and muscular like a beast…but was charming enough to catch the attention of any female who passed him. I shook my head, then began looking around. Where was I? I was lying on a bed, the room was well decorated, large, and neat. But no one was in it. I looked at myself…holy gods, who changed my robe? What happened? I flew off the bed, my eyes darting from one corner of the room to another. My arms were fine. I felt no single pain in my body. “Anyone…anyone here?” My voice wasn't loud, and I didn't know how to make it any louder. Fear gripped me like my robe; my body hair all stood. I didn't stop looking around, but the room was empty and not a single sound was heard. Then where did that sound of something shattering come from? Wasn't it here? Nothing shattered in the room. Everywhere was organised. How did I end up here? Did that lycan Lord find me in that part of the wood? Then does it mean I didn't die and this isn't the afterlife? I touched my cheek and felt myself, yet I didn't feel relieved. “What happened to my robe? Who changed my robe?” That was the part that I wasn't getting. I hadn't seen my robe around, and it freaked me out that whoever it was that did this now knew my secret. Or, didn't the person undress me completely? They put another robe on me. I quickly checked my inner pants, and it wasn't the same. Holy gods! Something isn't right… I rushed to the door and tried to unlock it, but nothing worked. It wasn't bolted, yet the doorknob wasn't opening it. “They locked me up. I am dead.” My legs trembled, and I found myself stepping backwards amid fear. And that man in my dream; how did he end up being the one I met last night? This can't be happening… I flinched at the sudden sound of the door, eyes pinned at it to see who it was. The door opened and that Lord came in, his looks were disastrous, as though he was going to snap me to death. I lost my balance and crouched to the floor, my heart beating rapidly in my chest. “Hansel, right?” he asked, coming closer. I nodded, pushing my butt backwards. He grabbed a seat and glued his ass, brows knitted, and arms folded to his chest. “Could you elaborate on why you're posing as a male?” That was it. I saw it coming. My soul left my body. I felt so hollow. “You don't waste my time,” he growled at me, his voice predatory. I rolled my eyes to the sides, and panic surged through me. Where should I start? How do I explain it? “If you… “I don't know.” I was fast enough not to let him speak. “I'm not lying. I don't know anything.” He scoffed, but still maintained his commanding posture, “You don't know what exactly? Why the f**k did you even leave our midst last night? Trying to escape?” I shook my head again and again. Can't he just read my mind? “Your penalty is as heavy as the earth.” “Please…” the word left before I knew it. “I don't know anything, why I left, who I am, everything.” He laughed so hard at me, and I didn't blame him. How was it possible that I didn't know myself for these five years? Even as I was, it bothered me. He stood and came closer to me. I stared at his face, and every bone in me went dead that moment. These lycans are devils and shouldn't exist. Neither of them had ever looked soft. “You see, this is the lycan clan, and although I brought you here as per the Supreme Prince's order, I could also take your life…or maybe let him suck you to death,” he gestured. It resounded in my ear. Suck me to death? The man from last night also sucked me, right? “Now tell me the truth, why are you disguised? How long have you been this way? If you keep telling lies, this could affect all humans, especially the merchant’s manor.” He didn't stop gazing at me, and I hated it. He looked scary, and just meeting his eyes took my breath away. My palms got soaked on the floor. I couldn't get hold of my heart rate. “Speak, or… “My Lord,” I took a deep breath. “Like I said, I don't know anything. Five years ago, I woke up in the hospital, covered in blood, with no memories of myself, dressed like a man, so the humans know nothing. I was scared they would kill me if I revealed my true gender, so I continued living the way I found myself, but I still recall nothing.” Even as I spoke, my whole body tensed. I expected him not to believe me, to conclude that I was telling him lies still…but he stood up and threw his hands behind him. He stared at me for what felt like eternity and sighed… “How do I believe this?” But to think of it, he saw my nude? What the heck… “Still, I am going to introduce you to the lycan prince, so you have to follow me. The day he finds out your secret, you will take your last breath, and I will pretend to have never known anything about you.” He paused and turned his back on me. “And the risk you took last night...” he gave me a side look and began moving to the door. I didn't think, so I just got to my feet and began following him. One thing I knew was that I wasn't in my right senses last night. How could I take such a risk? Did they find me amid life and death? If that man had killed me, I'd be gone. Or if he had found out my gender, nothing could be done about it. I trailed behind him, passing through different lycans, and as usual, they all couldn't get their eyes off me. Some murmured behind me, the females stared at me for so long I almost got ashamed, but I still held my shoulders high as I walked behind that Lord. We reached a certain quarter and he knocked on the door… “Aldric, your highness.” His name was Aldric? What position was he in to the prince? Why was there no guard in the hallway or even at the doorpost like I had seen at the human’s palace? The door opened, and he stepped in; then I joined him. Come to think of it, why doesn't he want to expose me himself? Will it implicate him? Did he believe what I had told him? “He is a human. His name is Hansel, and I'm sure he will play his role well.” Lord Aldric explained without being asked. Then I looked into the room deeper to see a man standing and facing the wall. He was the same length and size as the man of last night, his hair packed into a ponytail and braided at the sides. Wait! Wait! I just hoped it wasn't what crossed my mind instantly. The man from last night. The one I saw in my dream recently. They had something similar. “Relay your greetings to the Supreme Prince.” Lord Aldric ordered, his gaze narrowed. I succumbed to my knees, my chest pounding in my ear. “Greetings, your Supreme Highness.” My voice came, loud and tiny like it had been. I raised my face a bit, only to catch him staring at me. A lump formed in my throat. I lost my breath at that moment. It was him. He was the one. How come? What the f**k is going on? My lips quivered, and air left my nostrils every second.
