A Name Everyone Knows

The cheers from the practice match hadn't faded even after two days. Every corner of **IN Tech University** echoed with the same conversation. "Did you see Team Seven's comeback?" "Ananya's strategy was unbelievable." "I thought Arjun carried the team, but she surprised everyone." "She might become the next captain." Ananya sighed as she walked through the main corridor. She hated attention. For two years, she had lived quietly on campus. She attended classes, spent time with her roommates, and disappeared into the gaming world every evening. Now... Everyone knew her name. "Morning, Ananya!" "Good luck for the selections!" "We're cheering for Team Seven!" She forced a polite smile and kept walking. Beside her, Riya couldn't stop laughing. "I've never seen so many people recognize you." "I liked it better when nobody knew me." Meera nudged her shoulder. "Too late. You're famous now." "I don't want to be." Riya grinned. "Well, fame clearly wants you." --- At the other end of the campus, inside the Student Council office, Arjun stood near the window overlooking the basketball court. His desk was covered with project reports, tournament schedules, and startup documents. Yet his attention wasn't on any of them. He was replaying Team Seven's match. Again. And again. Vikram entered carrying breakfast. "You've watched that replay at least ten times." Arjun didn't deny it. "I'm studying." "No," Vikram replied, placing the food on the table. "You're studying one player." Arjun paused the video. The screen froze on Ananya's character destroying the bridge. "She saw something the rest of us missed." Vikram folded his arms. "You trust her already." "I trust her decisions." "That's unusual." Arjun smiled faintly. "I know." --- Across campus... Kabir Malhotra sat alone in the gaming lab. Unlike the others, he wasn't interested in celebrating Team Seven's victory. His eyes remained fixed on the replay. He slowed the footage. Paused. Rewound. Played it again. Every movement Ananya made looked strangely familiar. He opened another video. A recording from last year's National Online Championship. The player on the screen— **ShadowFlame.** Kabir compared both videos side by side. The timing. The movement. The way both players lured opponents into narrow spaces before launching a counterattack. Almost identical. Kabir leaned back slowly. "No..." "It can't be this easy." He zoomed in again. Then smiled. "If you're really ShadowFlame..." "You won't stay hidden for long." --- Meanwhile... Ananya entered her Data Structures class a few minutes before the lecture began. She quietly took her usual seat near the window. Just as she opened her notebook... Someone sat beside her. She looked up. Arjun. "You don't usually attend this class," she said. He smiled. "It's an elective." "Oh." An awkward silence followed. Neither knew how to begin a conversation. Finally, Arjun spoke. "You made the right decision during the match." Ananya looked confused. "The bridge." "Most players would've attacked." "You chose to change the battlefield instead." She smiled modestly. "It just seemed like the fastest solution." "It was." Another silence. Then Arjun stood. "I'll see you at practice." Before she could reply, he walked toward the front row. Riya immediately leaned over from the seat behind. "Did Arjun Varma just compliment you?" "It wasn't a compliment." "It absolutely was." Meera laughed quietly. "I think your captain likes your brain." Ananya rolled her eyes. "He appreciates teamwork." "Nothing more." Neither Riya nor Meera believed her. --- That afternoon... The university auditorium buzzed with excitement. Every student participating in the esports selections had gathered. Professor Raman stepped onto the stage. Behind him, a giant screen displayed the tournament bracket. "Attention, everyone." "The practice matches are over." "The official **IN Tech University Esports Selection Tournament** begins tomorrow." The hall erupted into applause. Professor Raman raised his hand for silence. "This tournament will decide which five players represent our university at the National Championship." He clicked the remote. The rules appeared on the screen. * Team-based elimination rounds. * Strategic challenges. * Individual performance evaluation. * Leadership assessment. "The winning team is not guaranteed selection," Professor Raman explained. "We're looking for players who can think under pressure and work together." Arjun nodded quietly. Exactly the kind of tournament he enjoyed. Ananya swallowed nervously. This was no longer just a friendly practice. Everything counted now. --- After the meeting ended, Team Seven gathered in the gaming arena for their first official practice session. Rohit stretched confidently. "This time we'll crush everyone." Sneha laughed. "Please don't rush in like last time." Everyone looked at Rohit. He scratched the back of his head. "Okay... maybe I got a little excited." Arjun opened the tactical map on the large screen. "We're changing our strategy." He looked directly at Ananya. "I want you to lead today's practice." She blinked. "Me?" "You see opportunities others miss." "I'm not a captain." "I'm not asking you to be." "I'm asking you to trust your instincts." The room became quiet. Even Rohit looked surprised. Ananya hesitated for a moment before walking toward the digital board. She picked up the stylus. "If we're facing stronger teams..." "We shouldn't fight them head-on." She quickly drew several routes across the map. "We divide into pairs." "Force them to separate." "And attack where they're weakest." Arjun watched carefully. Every explanation was calm. Clear. Logical. Without realizing it... He smiled. *"Exactly like ShadowFlame..."* --- Practice began. Within minutes... Team Seven moved across the virtual battlefield with perfect coordination. Whenever Rohit made a mistake... Ananya redirected him. Whenever Sneha hesitated... Arjun backed her up. Every decision felt natural. As though they had been teammates for years. Outside the arena... Someone watched through the glass window. Kabir. His phone camera quietly recorded every move. Every command. Every strategy. He zoomed in on Ananya. "So..." "You really are different." He pressed the stop button and slipped the phone into his pocket. A slow smile spread across his face. "This is enough..." "For now." As Team Seven celebrated another successful practice inside... None of them noticed the person who had just recorded everything. The atmosphere inside the IN Tech University Gaming Arena had completely changed. Gone were the cheers and laughter from the practice matches. Today, every student knew one thing... One mistake could end their journey. Large LED screens displayed the tournament bracket while students filled every seat in the arena. Team Seven stood together near their gaming stations. Rohit kept stretching his fingers. Sneha silently adjusted her headset. Ananya looked at the giant screen, trying to calm her racing heart. Arjun noticed. "Nervous?" She smiled faintly. "A little." "Good." She looked at him in surprise. "If you're nervous, it means this matters to you." His calm voice somehow made her feel lighter. She took a deep breath. "I'm ready." Professor Raman walked onto the stage. "Welcome to the First Elimination Round of the IN Tech University Esports Selection Tournament." The entire arena erupted into applause. "There are sixteen teams." "Only eight will move to the next round." He looked around the hall before continuing. "Remember..." "We're not only judging your victories." "We're judging your teamwork." The screen behind him lit up. MATCH ONE TEAM SEVEN VS TEAM ELEVEN Riya jumped from the audience. "Come on, Ananya!" Meera clapped beside her. "You've got this!" Ananya smiled and waved before putting on her headset. The outside world disappeared. Now... There was only the game. The battlefield loaded. A vast abandoned fortress appeared on the screen. Broken walls. Watchtowers. Narrow bridges crossing deep valleys. Arjun studied the map. "This terrain favors ambushes." Ananya nodded. "They'll probably attack from the towers." Rohit confidently said, "Then let's attack first." "No." Both Arjun and Ananya answered together. Everyone laughed. Arjun looked at her. "You explain." She opened the tactical map. "If we rush..." "We'll lose our vision." "They'll surround us before we even reach the center." Sneha nodded. "So what do we do?" Ananya pointed toward the western path. "We split into two groups." "Arjun and I go through the west." "Rohit and Sneha create enough noise on the east to make them think we're all together." Rohit scratched his head. "So..." "I'm the distraction?" Ananya smiled. "The hero distraction." He laughed. "I can do that." Arjun looked at her with quiet admiration. Again... She had found the safest strategy within seconds. The countdown reached zero. 3... 2... 1... START Rohit immediately began attacking enemy guards from the eastern gate. Loud explosions echoed across the battlefield. Just as Ananya predicted... Team Eleven rushed toward the noise. "They took the bait," Sneha whispered. Meanwhile... Arjun and Ananya moved silently through the western ruins. Neither spoke. They didn't need to. One look was enough. One movement. One signal. They understood each other perfectly. Suddenly... An enemy sniper appeared on the tower. "Left," Ananya whispered. Before the sniper fired... Arjun threw his spear. Critical Hit. The enemy disappeared. Ananya smiled. "Nice timing." "You saw him first." "No." "I guessed." Arjun couldn't help smiling. "You really do think differently." At the eastern gate... Rohit's health dropped dangerously low. "I'm surrounded!" Three enemies chased him. Sneha tried helping but another opponent blocked her path. "Captain!" Arjun looked at the battlefield. "We're too far." Ananya quickly noticed something. "The tower!" "What?" "If we destroy it..." "The bridge behind them collapses." Arjun understood instantly. Without another word... They attacked the support pillars beneath the tower. The structure shook violently. Crack... Crack... BOOM! The tower collapsed. The bridge shattered. The pursuing enemies fell into the canyon. The audience exploded with applause. "What a move!" "They changed the whole battlefield!" Professor Raman smiled proudly. "Excellent situational awareness." Only one objective remained. The Crystal Core. Whichever team captured it would win. Team Eleven rushed desperately toward the center. "We're running out of time!" Rohit shouted. Ananya closed her eyes for one second. She remembered every movement. Every enemy position. Every possible route. Then... "I've got it." She marked a hidden tunnel on the map. "No one's guarding this entrance." Arjun looked at her. "You sure?" "Ninety percent." "That's enough." Together... The four teammates sprinted through the underground passage. When Team Eleven finally reached the Crystal Core... Team Seven was already there. "Impossible!" One final battle erupted. Skills flashed across the battlefield. Magic exploded. Weapons clashed. Arjun blocked every attack coming toward Ananya. Ananya created openings for Rohit. Sneha healed the entire team at exactly the right moment. Seconds later... The Crystal Core glowed bright blue. VICTORY The arena erupted. Students stood from their seats cheering loudly. Professor Raman announced, "Team Seven advances to the Quarterfinals!" Riya hugged Meera excitedly. "I told you!" "They're unbeatable!" As Team Seven removed their headsets, dozens of students surrounded them. "That hidden tunnel strategy was brilliant!" "How did you even find it?" Ananya smiled awkwardly. "I just noticed it." Arjun looked at her. "No." "You predicted it." For the first time... She laughed. "Maybe." It was the first genuine laugh he had heard from her. Without realizing it... He smiled too. Far across the arena... Kabir watched everything from the shadows. He replayed the match on his tablet. Then he opened another replay. ShadowFlame's National Championship match. He compared both videos. The bridge strategy. The tunnel prediction. Even the way Ananya paused for exactly one second before making a decision. Kabir slowly closed the tablet. His eyes narrowed. "I was right..." He slipped the device into his backpack. "But I still need proof." As he turned to leave, he made a phone call. The person on the other end answered immediately. Kabir spoke in a low voice. "I found her." A brief silence followed. Then he continued. "Start watching Ananya Rao." "I want to know everything." He ended the call and looked back toward the celebrating Team Seven. A cold smile appeared on his face. "Enjoy your victory while you can..." "ShadowFlame."
