4. Death In Sight

1118 Words
Harry was suddenly eager to get to the center of the problem between Steve and Jane. Clearly, their relationship was not going well. Harry wanted to interrogate him. Harry wasn't in much of a hurry, he drove the car at a low speed. And suddenly, he heard a moaning sound from the back seat. The burly man turned around. Jane was awake. With a confused look on her face, Jane sat up straight. She turned her face to the right and left. Only then did she realize where she was, let alone see the man driving the car. Harry knew that Jane would be angry, cursing and swearing at him. Harry spoke first before Jane had a chance to express her anger. "You'd better calm yourself down, or I'll drug you again to keep you asleep for a lot longer." Harry threatened. Jane's lips twitched, and her hands clenched tightly. "Don't try to do that to me." "And you have to do as I say." "What are you doing, asshole?" Jane kicked the chair, then leaned over it in one fell swoop. "Don't take me to the old man, I don't want to go there." "I can't obey your orders." "You must." Jane shouted loudly to Harry, her body already fully tensed. "You have no choice, Jane," Harry replied calmly. His gaze did not move from the front. Jane was suddenly startled by the words that left Harry's lips. She blinked her eyes. "How do you know my name?" Then a little later, Jane looked down, shook her head, and sighed strongly. What kind of stupid question was that? "Steve gave you orders to take me to see him. Obviously you already know my name," she continued. Jane sat down limply, as if she had resigned herself to the circumstances that were currently ensnaring her. "You're right, I was following orders." Jane retorted, "Why do you endure working with a madman like him?" Harry was silent, he didn't want to answer that question. He didn't have the right answer. Jane rubbed her face, her hair was already looking tangled. "Please, put me down here, I know that you--" "I can't." "I haven't finished my sentence!" Jane said this sharply and loudly. Harry shook his head. "It's an order, I can't fulfill your request." "f**k, you kidnapped me! I can't believe this, stuck in a car with a strange man. And you-" Jane ruffled her short hair, she then growled in annoyance, sighing loudly. She was too upset right now. "Jane, you need to calm down, okay? Everything will be fine." Jane laughed at the sentence that slipped freely from Harry's lips. She leaned forward. "What did you just say? You told me to calm down after you kidnapped me and knocked me out. You're an asshole, you can't do this!" "Yes, I can." "Jane, everything will be under control." "Shut your stupid f*****g mouth!" Jane raged. "You're full of s**t, I know that soon I'll be finished. Once you hand me over to that old bastard, my life will be over. You're fine, but not me!" Jane's chest seemed to rise and fall as her breathing became unsteady. Her heart was racing fast, and her face was covered in sweat. Anger grew, gathering into one. Jane couldn't calm down, she was really angry. Could that jerk who was driving the car have told her to calm down and said that everything would be fine? So annoying. "I don't want to see that old man!" Jane spoke firmly again, this time more seriously. "Drop me off at the curb, I need to get out of here." "You won't, you know that, stop begging me." Harry gripped the steering wheel tightly. Jane was now crying, Harry could see it in the center mirror. She covered her face, her cheeks flushed, and tears fell from her eyes, down her cheeks. Harry set his jaw. He couldn't afford to be provoked, let alone feel sorry for her. It could be that Jane was trying to get pity from him. Harry wouldn't do that. This was his job, Steve had told him to bring Jane. And look, Jane was already with him. Just one more step, and the job would be done. "I beg you, please let me go, I don't want to see Steve." Jane pleaded, her voice coming out in a whimper. "I will give you anything, I will fulfill your request, anything as long as you let me go. Please." Harry didn't care, he just kept quiet and continued to focus on driving. With tears in her eyes, Jane said again. "I know you're a good man, you wouldn't do this. I could die, he'll kill me once you hand me over to him." Shit! Harry gritted his teeth. Jane had succeeded in making Harry feel uneasy. Harry's defenses were almost down. He felt sorry for this poor woman sitting in his car. Harry was silent, more like not knowing what to say. He was confused, upset, and at the same time, he was trying to remain firm in his stance. "That old fool has had my pride trampled on. I won't lose, I have to leave, I don't want to meet him. He's already made me suffer too much. It's all too much, this is enough. Please, let me go." "I don't know what to say, and please, you'd better keep quiet," Harry said. "You don't need to say anything. Just drop me off here." "I won't be able to do that. I promised, Steve is my boss. I have to obey his orders. You're wrong to beg me, I'm not very good with people, let alone with you, I just met you. You're a stranger, I don't know anything about you." Harry said at length in one breath. He continued. "And now, you'd better shut up, we'll be there soon. I won't be easily persuaded. It's useless for you to keep whining, I won't care." "You really are a cruel man, you can't have a heart. You're just like that old man." Jane rubbed her face, her eyes had now turned red. "Whatever, I don't care." Harry swallowed. This was a mistake, he increased the speed of the car. Afraid that he would make another mistake. Harry wanted to be honest and admit that he had just felt a little sorry for Jane. That was wrong, Harry wouldn't do something wrong a second time. "Oh my God, I'm going to die soon." Jane cried. She tried her best to persuade Harry. "I want to explain to you about something, please listen to this." "I don't want that." Jane didn't care, she continued. "That old fool killed my mother."
