8. When The Man Acts

1089 Words
"That doesn't mean I'll be faithful to you, does it?" "It does, but it's you, Harry, I know you, and I have hopes for you. So, you can't possibly act rashly and try to throw me in jail." Wrong, you don't know me at all. Neither do I, I don't know you. Harry really wanted to say that. But the words just stuck in his throat, unable to come out as they should. Steve continued. "Besides, you'll lose your job if you play with fire with me. Take care, even though I trust you a lot, I'd warn you to be careful how you act. You don't know how strong your opponent is." Harry could now feel that this old man beside him was indeed very dangerous. How could Harry only realize that when he had worked for him for five years? Harry watched as Steve took another swig of champagne in his hand. "Harry." "Yes, sir?" "Since you've complied with my request, I'd like to give you a small gift. In addition to the money I'll transfer to your bank account later, how about you take a vacation?" "A vacation?" Harry blinked. "Right, how about two weeks off? You don't have to come to work for me." Harry shuffled into place. "What if you need my help?" "You don't have to worry or think too much about it. How about it, Harry? Is two weeks enough time for you? Do you feel less?" "No, sir, it's too much. Two weeks is too long. In fact, I didn't ask for this. I don't need to leave." "Don't be like that, you've worked too hard. You need a little rest. Don't refuse my tempting offer." Harry didn't have a chance to argue. After a rough sigh, he nodded. "Fine, but I don't want to take two weeks off. One week is enough." "Are you sure?" asked Steve, just to see if Harry had really made up his mind. "Absolutely sure." "All right if you ask me. One week." "Yes, one week." Harry nodded firmly, not hesitating at all. "Okay, now that your work is done, you can pack up and go home. You can come here in one week." *** Throughout the day, Harry was not calm at all. This was his third day off. He should have been happy, spending time having fun, surfing on the beach, interacting with new people, watching movies, or doing other things he liked. However, instead of feeling that way, Harry was in a tizzy. The reason is Steve and Jane. Steve had done terrible things to Jane, his stepdaughter. And how is she now? Has Steve killed her? Harry had no idea. In his room, he shook his head. He kept thinking about it. "Did Steve deliberately ask me to take it off just to damage Jane without my knowledge?" Harry asked himself. This one possibility did make sense. Harry had told himself several times that he shouldn't bother thinking about the incident. That's the way it should be, right? His work was done. But no, Harry couldn't relax. Harry was worried about the fact that Steve had killed that woman. Just thinking about it made Harry cringe. Right now, to be honest, Harry believed Jane's words, what she had told him about Steve had caught his attention. Harry suddenly stood up from his seat, "Steve must not kill that woman, I must act," he said to himself. However, a moment later, Harry remembered old Steve's words that he shouldn't play games with him. Steve was dangerous, Harry could feel that. If he was reckless and betrayed the man, what would Steve do to him? Besides Harry not being able to work for Steve anymore, what else could possibly happen? Would he kill him? "Damn, I think too much," Harry said, cursing. He shook his head. "I have to do what I think is right, I can't afford to delay too much." Harry knew the risk was too high. Moreover, he had received a warning from his boss. Don't mess around, he has to be careful. He didn't know what power his enemy had. Suddenly, Harry regretted kidnapping Jane and handing her over to Steve. But, he was too late, Jane was already in the hands of her stepfather, who locked her up and r***d her before cruelly killing her. In fact, Harry doesn't even know if Jane is currently alive or not. It was risky for Harry to try to free her from the house. But, he needed to do that. Otherwise, Harry would continue to have regrets, guilt, and insecurity. Jane was right again, he would be just as cruel as Steve if he left her there. Indirectly, Harry was a murderer too. He interfered. "No, I'm determined, I dare to take the risk, whatever it is." Harry moved to nod at the jacket, then put it on quickly, "Whatever!" he said once again. Indeed, there are many risks, dangers, and consequences that Harry can get. But, he doesn't care about that now. "Jane, if you're still alive, hang in there, I'll come to rescue you." Harry said to himself. "I hope Jane isn't dead, I hope I have time, and most importantly, I hope I can get her out of there." Harry had changed his mind, he no longer wanted to obey Steve's orders. The old man was wrong, he made a big mistake, and the actions he took were unjustified. In a short time, Harry finally arrived at Steve's mansion. The house had no guards. Steve preferred to live alone, and Harry knew that. In fact, he didn't even employ a permanent maid. Steve wasn't home. That's what came to Harry's mind as soon as he entered the house. Yes, he did have a spare key to the house. Steve did trust Harry a lot. Harry had called out his boss's name, but Steve didn't come out. Harry had even checked the house. But the house was empty. Good, Harry wasn't going to waste this opportunity. Harry immediately opened the door to the room where Jane was locked up. The door lock hung there, allowing Harry to open it without any effort. Jane must still be in there, Harry was sure of it. Harry was in too much of a hurry, he was afraid that Steve would suddenly appear and catch him. As much as possible, Steve didn't see what Harry was about to do. Once the door finally slammed open, Harry held his breath at what he saw.
