Chapter 1: Celebrity twins
The sun beat down on the football field, casting a golden glow over the cheering crowd. Emerald Allison watched with a mix of excitement and disdain as Zain, the school's star player, kicked the ball with incredible force. It soared into the goalpost, prompting the spectators to erupt in cheers.
"Gooaaaaaaall!" they screamed, their voices echoing across the field.
The referee blew the whistle, signaling the end of the match. Zain strutted off the field, surrounded by adoring girls. Emerald rolled her eyes, unimpressed.
"Who's the player of the match?" the referee asked, grinning at the students.
"Zain!" they chorused, their voices filled with admiration.
Emerald watched as Zain lapped up the attention, his smile gleaming with pride. She had never understood why everyone fawned over him. To her, he was just an arrogant guy who thought too highly of himself.
Her mind flashed back to the day her class played against another. After the match, Zain had teased her, "You've been dancing on the field for 90 minutes, like a hen about to lay an egg." Since then, she had disliked him intensely.
But her attention shifted to Zarin, her boyfriend and the star goalkeeper. Girls swarmed around him, and Emerald's brow furrowed. She wished she could keep them away, but she knew it was impossible. Zarin was the best goalkeeper in school, and everyone adored him.
As she watched, Zarin caught her eye and smiled. Emerald's heart skipped a beat. She was proud of her boyfriend, proud of his talent and dedication.
"Hey, Emer," Zarin said, approaching her.
"You impressed me," Emerald said, smiling.
"Like you always impress me," Zarin replied, pulling her into his arms.
Emerald felt a flutter in her chest. She loved the way Zarin made her feel – like she was the only person in the world.
Just then, Zain called out, "Zarin!"
"Young love," Zain said with a smirk, approaching them.
Emerald frowned, finding Zain annoying. Why did he always have to intrude on their moments?
"We need to discuss something," Zain said to Zarin.
"Emer, I'll catch up with you later," Zarin said, leaving with Zain.
Emerald knew it was about football, their all-consuming passion. Those two could talk about the game for hours, analyzing every play and strategy.
As she watched them walk away, Emerald couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. Why did Zarin have to be friends with Zain? Why did they have to be so close?
Zain and Zarin were school celebrities, inseparable since childhood. Some called them "The Celebrity Twins" due to their remarkable similarities, despite not being identical twins. They were both charming, talented, and confident, but Emerald wished Zarin had befriended someone else, anyone but Zain.
She remembered the first time she met Zarin. He was kind, gentle, and genuinely interested in getting to know her. Emerald had fallen for him hard, and she knew he felt the same way.
But Zain was a different story. He was always teasing, always pushing her buttons. Emerald suspected he did it on purpose, just to see her react.
As she walked off the field, Emerald spotted her friends waiting for her. They chatted about the game, analyzing the plays and discussing the teams' strengths and weaknesses.
Emerald listened, nodding along, but her mind kept drifting back to Zarin and Zain. Why did they have to be friends? Why did Zain have to be so annoying?
The sun began to set, casting a warm orange glow over the school. Emerald knew she'd see Zarin soon, and the thought made her smile.
But as she walked to her next class, Emerald couldn't shake off the feeling that Zain was trouble, that he would somehow disrupt her perfect little world.
Little did she know, Zain had secrets of his own, secrets that would change everything.
