Chapter 1 A Better Choice
"Ms. Foster, aside from comforting children, does your job involve satisfying adults?" "What?" In the luxurious, spacious office of Ethan Brooks, Emma widened her eyes in shock as she stared at the man in front of her. A few days ago, Hope Education, the company Emma worked for, received a call. The world's top-ranked Brooks Group needed a tutor for their future heir. Emma saw this as a great opportunity. She proactively sought out the task and spent a lot of time preparing for it. But she never expected to be faced with such a question. She nervously fiddled with her fingers, afraid she misunderstood his meaning, and repeated the question for clarification. "Mr. Brooks, are you saying what I think you're saying? You mean... emotional support?" "Physical comfort is also involved, Ms. Foster." The man stood up from behind his desk, the bright sunlight behind him making him look almost divine. "In a way, isn't the relationship between men and women all about mutual comfort? Ms. Foster, I'm merely asking you to do your job." As the man approached, Emma finally saw his face clearly. He was mature and attractive, with perfect muscles that made him seem like a master-made statue. However, his charming appearance wasn't an excuse for his frivolous words. "But I'm married!" Emma emphasized. "No problem. I'm married too." The man leaned in closer, his sharp features and exquisite face dangerously close to Emma's. Besides, I'm sure I look better and have more money than your husband. Wouldn't it be better to let me replace him?" Like an alluring devil, he reached out his hand, but Emma shoved him away before he could touch her. "Sorry, Mr. Brooks, but I love my husband. I'm not interested in your swapping games. I'm afraid I can't take this tutoring job either. You'll have to find someone else!" Emma declared loudly, quickly turning and leaving his office. Not long after she left, Ethan's assistant came in. "Mr. Brooks, this lady seems different from those who just want to get into your bed. She genuinely wants to teach your son." Ethan chuckled, watching Emma leave. "Good intentions are useless. She needs to actually resist temptations. Keep testing her for a few more days. If she really has no ulterior motives, I can introduce her to Philly." Ethan turned to walk back to his desk, but he suddenly thought of something and stopped halfway, turning around. "By the way, is Ms. Foster really married? Who's her husband?" The assistant thought for a moment. "Her profile does say she's married, but there is no detailed information, and none of her colleagues have heard her mention him." Ethan lazily leaned back in his office chair, casually lighting a cigarette. "Investigate her husband. I'm curious who can tolerate such a rigid and boring woman." Meanwhile, downstairs, Emma was still shaken and angry. Yes, she had lied. She didn't love her husband. In fact, she hadn't seen him for five years! Five years ago, after her boyfriend dumped her and soon married a rich girl, she went to Las Vegas on her own. That night, she got terribly drunk and married a stranger she had just met! They had drunk so much that they didn't even exchange contact information the next morning. All they had was a marriage license. But so what? That didn't mean she couldn't use it as an excuse. She certainly didn't want to be someone's plaything! Not wanting to stay in this dreadful place any longer, she planned to hail a cab. As she reached the door, her father, James Foster, called. Emma's father was a scumbag. Less than a year after her mother died, he married her stepmother and had a daughter with her. Ever since they had that daughter, Emma's stepmother was obsessed with marrying Emma off to a wealthy man to pave the way for her own daughter. And her father obeyed her every whim. Thankfully, Emma was already married—at least on paper—so their plans never succeeded. However, James' past actions made her reluctant to see him. She rejected his call, but he kept calling repeatedly. James probably understood that Emma didn't want to talk. After the fifth attempt, he sent her a message, saying today was her mother's birthday, and he was alone outside. He also said he missed her mother and wanted to see her. Emma's mother was her only weak spot. Seeing the address James sent, which was her mother's favorite restaurant, Emma recalled their once happy family time and thought maybe he was sincere this time. So, she took a cab to the restaurant.
