I stayed and watched as the man of my heart pledged his love to another woman, the tears falling silently down my face but I made no move to wipe it off. Lorelie had asked me not to come, had pleaded with me, but I had refused her. I wanted to see the ceremony with my very own eyes. I wanted to watch him when his eyes were on her. Did he wish she was me? Was he thinking about all the times we'd plan our bonding ceremony together? Did he even thought of me at all or had he wiped his memory clean of what I was, of what we were?
I wanted to ask him why she was wearing pink, the color I had chosen to wear on that day with him. I wanted to reverse the hands of time, back to the very beginning. Maybe I would have seen the signs then. Maybe I could have done something.
People near me were trying not to stare and the ones that did
had pity in their eyes.
My heart was breaking into pieces. I was dying inside. I was barely functioning as it is, but the knowledge of what I was soon about to do gave me the power to hold it together, the power to not fall apart. Most especially in front of her. She had not win and I would not let her see me break down.
My heart kept chanting his name, the pain and heartbreak a terrifying, sharp ache.
I wanted my mate. But the bonding ceremony they had just gone through made him hers and not mine.
I turned to go, having seen enough. I bumped into someone.
“Hello, witch.”
I tried to bypass him but Caleb's father held me back.
“How does it feel to see my son with someone else. Must be fun, huh? I'm very, very glad I'm alive to witness this day. Wondered what your poor dead mother would have had to say about this.”
I grinded my teeth together. “Don't you dare mention my mother!”
His faced turned ugly as he said, “May she rot in hell, you little bitch.”
“Let her go!” Someone yelled, but it was too late. The rage burning in me erupted with a loud noise and Caleb's father was soon on the floor, a part of his face burnt, smoke emanating from it.
Whispers began to fill the room. “She used her powers.”
“How dare she?”
Goddess, what had I done? I had only succeeded in making them hate me more.
I tried to run but the people stopped me, blocking my way.
“Let me go! Let me through!” I yelled as hands reached out at me and pinned me down.
The Alpha's voice rang out loudly and I knew I was getting my judgement there and then. There was no escaping this.
“For using your powers to harm your fellow pack member, Luna Duvall, you've been banished from this pack. And you only have till nightfall to leave. Refusal to do so will only result in your death!”
****
I packed my bags as soon as I got home. I knew the Alpha meant what he said. It will be my death if I didn't leave the pack before nightfall.
But I would come back. I would come back for vengeance. I
had suffered too much in their hands, and I wasn't going to let go that easily. They would all pay.
I walked alone, through corners and forests holding my staff firmly in my hand.
I was tired and hungry but I kept on moving, determined to stop only when I find a sign of human life.
I soon did. When the squirrel dashed past me, I thought it was from a larger animal but when the birds took flight, I became more alert and watched my surroundings.
From out of nowhere, I felt an arm close around my throat, throwing me to the ground as my staff fell out of reach from my limp hand.
“I caught one! I caught one!”
His arm were so tight around my neck that I could feel myself losing air, my eyes turning blurry but I used my last strength to utter magical words that sent the man flying through the air and falling a few meters away.
There was a loud gasp from above me as I tried to catch my breath.
“It's a girl, you i***t. Not a rogue.”
“A girl?” asked the man I had thrown off.
“Yes. A f*****g girl. Look what Micheal did, Alpha.”
The man stepped aside and the most masculine man I had ever seen appeared. No doubt he was their Alpha.
He had long dark hair that was roughly tied together at the nape of his neck, and gray eyes that looked like it was about to unleash the most violent storm ever.
But I had seen him before, I just didn't know where.
“Mate.” came the voice that was undoubtedly his.
ALPHA KAI'S POV
This must be a joke. The moon goddess must be toying with me. I had waited for this day all my life and had eventually given up when Melissa got pregnant. What could I do? There was no way I could deny her.
Now, here she was. My mate. After waiting and years of living in torment with a woman I did not love, here she was. Oh, how I wanted to pull her close to me and hold her fierce, never letting go, but the thoughts of Melissa made me stay put.
Her eyes were the most beautiful I jad ever seen. It seemed they held a storm that couldn't wait to be unleashed. What was she doing here all alone? Where was she coming from? She didn't had the smell of a wolf. Who was she?
Mate, I growled out subconsciously, startling everyone and
myself but I couldn't help it. She is my mate.
LUNA'S POV
It was a possessive low growl but I had heard him clearly.
“Mate,”
As I looked up, I could see that his warriors also looked shocked and surprised.
Mate? No, he must be joking, I thought, ignoring what I was feeling at his nearness. It was Caleb. Caleb was my mate — no matter what had happen between us.
“What about the Luna, our queen?” asked one of the warriors in a sad quiet voice and at that I saw the sorrow in the Alpha's eyes.
“The Luna,” someone repeated in awe-struck voice, his eyes glued to me. “We have a Luna already.”
Just then, there was rumbling in the bushes and five more men appeared. One of them moved close to the Alpha and threw back the covering of his face and hair.
“Hey, sweetheart, did you guys catch a rogue?”
She was undeniably female and undeniably their queen.
His Luna.
But that was not what threatened to run me mad. He was the Alpha whose death my mom had predicted. Why was he still alive?
