CHAPTER 1
Sophia's point of view: "Sophia, I have a new event for you to plan", my boss, Rachel, announced, rushing into my office. "But I just finished one. Why this one? Can't you give it to someone else?" I asked her with a sigh. Rachel and I are close friends, basically sisters. She knows I'm a talented event planner, but I'm also exhausted from the last project. "You know I don't trust them with jobs like this, and this pays well, girl," she said softly with a smile. I shook my head, grabbing the folder from her. " Blackwood Industries Charity Gala", I mumbled with a frown. "You know Asher Blackwood, right?" Rachel asked. I nodded, dropping my coffee cup on the table. "He's rude as hell, though. I don't need an arrogant man bossing me around." Rachael chuckled." Oh, come on, it's just for a while. You've worked with many rude men before. I bet he won't be that hard on you " I mumbled a quick goodbye and walked out, not wanting to argue. Rachel chuckled. " As I drove to Blackwood Industries, my mind was clouded with worries. I'd heard rumors about Asher Blackwood's demanding nature, but I pushed them aside. I just wanted to get this job done and go home. Arriving at the sleek and modern skyscraper, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. The receptionist greeted me warmly and led me to the top floor. The elevator doors opened, revealing a spacious office with a stunning view of the city skyline. "Ah, Sophia Thompson," a deep voice said, making me look away from the view. A man in a blue suit stood before me, his piercing brown eyes locking onto mine. "Welcome to Blackwood Industries. I trust you're here to discuss the charity Gala?" He asked. I nodded, my eyes still locked on his. He must be Asher Blackwood. "Come on, have a seat, and let's get started, I don't have all day." He said, his tone firm but not unfriendly. As we sat down, I noticed his intense gaze and sharp jawline. Asher Blackwood was even more intimidating in person. "So, Sophia, I understand you're the best in the business," he said, his eyes scanning my portfolio. "I expect nothing but perfection for this gala." Rolling my eyes, I nodded, taking a deep breath. "I understand, Mr Blackwood. I'll make sure to deliver an unforgettable event." I said. "Can you tell me more about this gala?" "Was just about to before you said it, that's rude if you don't know Sophia," Asher said with a headshake. "Anyway, I like your confidence, Sophia, I have specific requirements for this gala. I want it to be a night to remember, something that will impress my investors and clients." "Mr. Blackwood. I'll make sure to take note of every detail. What's the theme, guest list, and budget you have in mind?" I asked. "For the theme: Black Tie. Guest list: A-list celebrities, business moguls, and politicians. For the Budget: Unlimited. I want the best of the best, Sophia. No expenses spared." "Alright, understood. And what about the charity aspect, which cause will we be supporting?" "I've decided to support a local children's hospital. I want to make a real difference with this event," Asher said. "That's wonderful, Mr. Blackwood. I'll make sure to incorporate the charity element." "Is there anything else?" I asked softly. Asher leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers together. "Well, you have to be working in my company now, until we are down with all this," he said, his eyes gleaming with a hint of triumph. "Wait, what!?" I asked loudly, my eyes widening in shock. "That can't work out, Mr. Asher, I have jobs to attend to m," I said, frowning. "Wait, what?!" I asked loudly, my eyes widening in shock. "That can't work out, Mr. Asher," I said, frowning. Why did Rachel not inform me about this? I thought to myself. "I don't care," Asher said, his give firm. "The plan was for you to work with me until we are done with my gala. I don't need you going around telling people about it." "I don't just tell people about my work, I keep them private," I argued, shaking my head. "Maybe you need someone else for this cause. I'm certainly not interested anymore," I said, standing up and preparing to walk out. "The moment you take a step out of here, you will kiss your job goodbye," Asher said, his voice dripping with menace. "Have you forgotten who I am?" He asked. I froze, my heart racing. I knew I was in trouble. I couldn't believe Rachel had set me up like this. "I...I need to think about it," I stammered, trying to buy time. Asher's smile was cold and calculating. "You have until tomorrow to decide. If you're not at my office by noon sharp, consider yourself fired from your job." I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized the extent of Asher's power and control. I was trapped, and I didn't know how to escape. ...... Without thinking, I rushed towards the elevator. I heard his chuckle, was this funny? Playing with someone's job was funny to him. Before the elevator doors closed, our eyes connected. A stupid smirk on his lips. Grabbing my phone from my bag, I waited for the elevator doors to open. I can't believe Rachel did this to me! What happened to sisters forever? Marching out of the company, I quickly dialed her number. It took a while before she finally picked up. "What the heck Rachel!, why didn't you tell me I had to work with him, in his company!" I asked loudly, banging on my car door. "I'm sorry Sophia, it slipped my mind for a moment, I didn't think it would be that serious," she said softly. I could already picture her biting down on her lips. She does that every time she's agitated. "Well, it is, and he freaking said if I don't work with him, I should kiss my job goodbye!" I continued yelling, using my right hand to run through my hair. "Well, he can do it, though, just accept it, I'll find someone to cover your jobs for you here, okay? It's just for a month or two," she said. Shaking my head, I didn't know what else to say to her, so I ended the call and let out a breath. This is going to be harder than I thought.
