Ch 25 Should be happy...

Chapter 25

•ZEN•

“Congratulations on finding your mate” Said Zari and De la Rosa at the same time again. De La Rosa smirked and then looked at Zari who would look anywhere but him I felt my mate wiggle out of my embrace and then grabbed my hand.

I couldn’t help myself and brought his hand up to my lips giving it a gentle kiss loving the way the sparks felt on my lips. I rested his hand there and I looked into his hypnotic eyes and he blushed a deeper red making him look more adorable. He looked down and said, “How about we go somewhere to talk” I nodded and then looked over at De la Rosa “Are we doing anything else?”

he smiled and then patted my shoulder “Nah you guys are free for the rest of the day” he grabbed Zari’s hand which caught her attention “Would you let me borrow some of your time” she looked flustered but nodded and then looked over at Xo and Stacy who had huge smirks on their faces “I’ll meet you guys back home later” they both smiled wider and nodded. 

He clasped her hand and said, “Come on, let's go to my office” then Zari and De la Rosa walked off. Then Xoila said “Were gonna go home so take your time Zen.” she smiled and then Stacy smirked saying “Be safe and don’t stay out too late.” she patted my shoulder and then grabbed Xoilas hand “Xo where did Oris go?”

Xoila shrugged and took a deep breath and closed her eyes, It was like 5 seconds later her eyes snapped back open and she said “Come on, let's go find him I can still smell him. We’ll see you at home” and they took off running towards where we walked in disappearing through the door. 

I sighed and looked back at my mate who seemed to be checking me out He noticed me looking at him and he blushed again “Come on” and he turned to pull me along and lead us to a door that had a bright green exit sign overhead he brought his hand up to a keypad and typed in a code. The door clicked and he pulled it open revealing another part of the forest. He walked out pulling me with him heading towards the forest.

We walked in comfortable silence and came across a small pond he stopped and pulled me towards a fallen log letting go of my hand and sat down patting the spot next to him. I sat down to rested my hand on his thigh getting him to look at me, he blushed and looked at my lips.

I couldn’t help it and pulled him to me and gave him a deep kiss he didn’t respond immediately but soon he wrapped his arms around my neck and was straddling me. I placed a hand on the small of his back and his hands traveled up my neck and my hair running his fingers through it.

He pulled away with a dazed look on his face and then blushed as if he had just realized what he did covering his face in embarrassment. 

I smiled and rested my chin on his chest holding him in place as he peeked between his fingers looking down at me and I took my chance to ask him “What’s your name gorgeous” if possible he got even redder and said "Ah right, well my name is Ramon Fane and I’m not usually like this” and looked away I smiled at my mate's shy behavior and decided to introduce myself

“Well my name is Zen Keyes and I'm 22, how old are you?” I asked tilting my head to the side. He looked at me little shocked but rested his hands on my shoulders getting in a more comfortable position and said “Oh I'm 18” then he tilted his head and said “so I guess that makes you 4 years older” I nodded and he got quite again so I grabbed his hand. He smiled and said “I'm glad you found me” I smiled and gave him a peck on the cheek and then rested my forehead on his

“Me too”

•ZARI•

‘I'm glad Zen found his mate but how come we have another mate?’

‘Because the moon goddess gave us a second chance’’

‘I know But Bree we had a mate who didn’t want us how do we know this one would be any different’

‘You saw the way he looked at you and his wolf is such a smooth talker’ I saw her tilt her head all coy

‘Give him a chance Z not all of us get a second chance at happiness and I know that it didn’t work out the first time but I'm sure this one will be different… Please Z... Just have a little faith’

She cut our connection and I looked over at him as Zen said, “Are we doing anything else?” Cuauhtemoc smiled and then patted his shoulder “Nah you guys are free for the rest of the day” suddenly he grabbed my hand and said “Would you let me borrow some of your time,” he looked at me pleadingly and I couldn’t help but feel flustered under his hazel green gaze I was going to say no but then I remembered Bree’s words

I know that it didn’t work out the first time but I'm sure this one will be different… Please Z... Just have a little faith

 Have a little faith huh? 

I nodded and giving in I mean how could I say no to those eyes. I looked over at Xo and Stacy who had smirks on their faces “I’ll meet you guys back home later” they both smiled wider and nodded. 

‘Good luck’

‘Tell us everything when you get home’

‘I will’

He clasped my hand and said, “Come on, let's go to my office” he turned pulling me with him. We walked away from my friends towards a door that had a rose painted on it he pulled the door open and we went in.

He let go of my hand and I couldn’t help but miss the sparks as he closed the door going to his desk. He sat down and then he motioned for me to sit down I looked over and saw a chair directly across from him and sat down but this damn bond... I missed his touch.

He was about to talk but I stood up and walked over to him sitting on his desk in front of him. He looked a little confused and opened his mouth to talk but beat him to it “Iusedtohaveamate!” I said it too fast so I'm not sure if he heard me and squeezed my eyes shut expecting a growl. But nothing happened so I opened my eyes to look at him he looked hurt and said: “What do you mean used to?”

I sighed and looked into his eyes and grabbed his hand “I had a mate before I met you, he was the New Alpha of my old pack you see.” I looked down and told him everything from beginning to end throughout the story he would just grunt his responses letting me know he was listening.

I felt a tear slip out by the end but quickly wiped it away because he was quiet I looked at him and saw his eyes glistening he put a hand over his mouth and didn’t say anything for a long time. 

I looked down unable to look at him any longer, we sat there in silence and I started to trace circles on his hand loving the sparks but suddenly he pulled his hand out of mine. My chest stung at the loss of contact and I looked up expecting the worst but I was met with his lips on mine.

I felt his hands on my waist he pulled me off the desk and onto his lap making me gasp and giving him a chance to deepen the kiss. He pulled away and wrapped his arms around me tightly and putting his nose in the crook of my neck and inhaling deeply. 

“It doesn’t matter anymore, none of that matters Zariah he didn’t deserve you” he let out a deep sigh and kissed my cheek “I've waited for such a long time... everyone meets their mate at 16 if not 18 but I'm 24 and I was starting to lose hope” he let out another sigh and said “I always wondered what was wrong with me and if I was destined to be alone but the goddess lead you to me”

He smiled and said “And now that you're here I know that you are the only one for me. My heart is already yours” he pulled my chin up to face him “So let me make you happy” he pulled my hand to his lips kissing it and then leaned his cheek into it and closing his eyes. 

I couldn’t help it as the tears welled up in my eyes “You promise?” he opened his eyes and wiped the tears away with the pad of his thumb, smiling “I promise” I blamed the mate bond as I leaned in and pecked his lips.

He looked taken aback but he placed his hand on the back of my head his eyes asking for permission as they looked from me to my lips. I leaned on his forearm rubbing my cheek against it he got the message and pulled me into a rough yet passionate kiss.

His arm wrapped around my waist pulling me impossibly closer causing me to shiver and Bree to purr. The added friction made him pull away breathing hard his eyes were swirling with lust and I couldn’t help but blush as he closed them resting his forehead on my shoulder. 

“Sorry” I wrapped my arms around him “It’s Okay I...Don’t mind”

•ORIS•

I watched as Memo finally found his mate grabbing hold of Zari who looked confused. 

I suppose they never got to learn of the legends of second chance mates… how lucky of her...

To have found her second chance mate only at the age of 17 not even searching for one… whereas I a 22-year-old wolf have yet to meet my second chance mate? Does the goddess even believe I deserve a second chance mate? 

'Ren?'

'No Pan Ren and Warren are in a better place with the goddess remember'

'No Ren?'

'No Ren.'

He whimpered slightly and cut or connection

Maybe we haven't found a second chance because we haven't come to terms with Warren's passing

I let out a shaky sigh and heard a "Guess this is my cue" I saw Xoila walk to the ring and Heard Memo issue a challenge she hardly spoke but as soon as she agreed Memo didn't give her a warning and attacked.

Much to my surprise she was fighting Memo with little to no effort it was amusing to know he was no longer the undefeated one, the fight ended with Memo getting his ass handed to him as I expected.

Then suddenly Zen shot up and went straight towards Ramon the way he held him like he was glass was enough for me to know that Zen finally found his mate. I know I should be happy but this tug at my heart and wave of depression that followed was enough to let me know that I had to get out of there.

I silently used my speed and headed back to the parking lot feeling like my sorrow deepened endlessly. I opened the door and I got in the car slamming the door shut resting my head against the steering wheel as my vision blurred and the damn broke letting the tears fall.

•XOILA•

 “We're gonna go home so take your time Zen.” I smiled and then Stacy smirked saying “Be safe and don’t stay out too late.” she patted his shoulder and I just knew what she said had double meaning then I felt as she grabbed my hand asking “Xo where did Oris go?”

I looked around and he was nowhere to be seen so I shrugged and took a deep breath to locate his scent and closed my eyes, I could faintly smell pine, a sea breeze, and a hint of mint. Bingo! “Come on, let's go find him I can still smell him. We’ll see you at home” I looked at Stacy and she nodded so we took off running towards where we walked out the door.

I followed his scent towards the car we had gotten here in he was in the driver's seat an air of sadness surrounding him. He didn’t seem to notice us as we got into the car, Stacy sat in the back seat and I got in on the passenger's side I looked over at him he looked pensive his eyes were red as If he just finished crying.

I turned to look at Stacy and she looked at me with a Shrug so I tapped his shoulder he flinched hard “Holy s**t Xoila you scared me!” he laughed but the smile didn’t reach his eyes.

The smile faded right away because I'm sure he knows I don’t buy it “Hey how about you drive us home and we can all sit down on those comfy couches you own?” He let out a deep sigh and his eyes seemed devoid of any emotion at all as he turned the key making the car rumble to life.

He started to drive forward and then when he got to the double door he put his left hand up signaling for the two guards that were stationed there to open the door.

They opened the door and we pulled off the ride became silent

‘Hey do you think he’s sad because Zen and Zari found their mates...well Zari found her second chance mate’

‘Maybe I mean it has been a few years since his mate passed away maybe he feels like he’s gonna be alone’

‘I mean I get the feeling like I’m glad they found their mates don’t get me wrong but at the same time I…’

She didn’t get to finish her thought because then Oris said: “Okay we're here so how about we just head inside.” I looked over at him, his eyes still looked the same, I felt my chest tighten because I’m sure he was thinking about his mate.

 It hurt to see him like that so I turned away looking out the window his words finally registering in my mind. We were parked at the left side of his house you could hear the creak of the water mill and the sound of the evening crickets. I couldn’t help but wonder 

‘How did we get home that fast?’ I wondered not realizing my though was heard

‘We were probably pushing 100mph if we got here in under 15min’ was what Stacy said and then she continued

‘It was like 8:27 pm when we left its like’ she looked at the dashboard ‘it’s 8:39 pm’

 I turned to look at him again and nodded he didn’t wait for a second longer because he quickly pulled the keys out and then closed the car door. He walked towards his round door putting his key in and walking in leaving it open for us to follow.

We both got out of the car and walked into the house right as I shut the door I heard another one close I let out a sigh “Come on Stace let’s go to the roof” She was looking in the direction of the staircase and simply nodded.

 We both walked up the stairs and into my room “Hey how are we gonna get on the roof” I smiled and went to open my window “Follow me” she looked at me wearily as she watched me climb out. I stood on the windowsill and reached for one of the support beams grabbing hold and pulling myself up I slung my arm over the top of the edge of the roof and swayed lifting with my arms then grabbing hold pulling myself up and turning over sitting on my butt. 

I pulled my legs up and waited for Stacy who soon enough popped up she had her arms crossed at the edge “Help” I smiled and I gave her my hand and pulled her up. She stood and carefully walked over to where I was we both sat down and I looked at the sky we sat in silence and the stars seemed impossibly bright as she said “I can’t imagine what he must be feeling right now” 

I turned away from the stars looking at Stacy who’s eyes were glossy “I’m sure he’s probably thinking about Warren I mean how could he not… I heard the stories of when you meet your mate and how when you look into their eyes you see your future with them...the overwhelming happiness… the feeling of being complete… I'm sure he’s probably wondering why fate was so cruel to him and took his mate away at such a young age…”

I felt my eyes water too and hugged my knees to my tightening chest “That underlying fear of having to be alone for the rest of your life...of never finding or losing your other half… the mate bond can be so beautiful and terrifying at the same time” I waited for her to say something but she didn’t she hugged me to her instead. And I closed my eyes thinking

Who would ever be with someone like me?
