Chapter 19 •XOILA• “Ow, why did you hit me! We could have died!” I only smiled as I said “You know why. You ass you started to speed up as I climbed into the passenger side” he laughed and then said “Hey watch your mouth young lady be glad you weren’t the cause of our deaths” he said smirking and Everyone else just laughed Annoyed I was about to shoot back a retort when he pulled into a dirt road that leads into the Mendocino National Forest.  I started to take in the vast scenery and looked out the window as the light shone through the trees making everything seem more vibrant and alive. It was autumn and the forest was full of reds, yellows, and oranges with a hint of green here and there. Taking in what I could see from my side and from the view before us I still glanced towards Oris’s side of the car and saw a male buck staring at us as we passed him. I saw a variety of Pines and Redwoods and then we saw a doe and her fawn nibbling at the trees trying to eat the bark.  “Oris where are we headed?” I asked as I noticed a narrow creek that runs alongside the road with water so clear it seems like the ground is the one glistening in the sun.  “Don’t worry we’ll head to my house where we’ll all be staying before you guys meet the gang” Then he made a turn and a beautiful two-story log cabin came into view “No pun intended” I rolled my eyes but still laughed as he pulled up to the cabin. I noticed that we were pretty deep in the forest in the only clearing for miles I would say. When Oris finally parked the tundra I flung the door open and jumped out inspecting our new home. The log cabin seemed to be made from redwoods, the front of the cabin had a lovely veranda that had greenery growing all over the pillars.  There was a nice porch swing with a large window on the wall behind it and a bench on the other side in the same fashion in the lower area. The door between the windows was round like in The Hobbit which brought joy to my nerd's heart. I looked up to the second floor to take in the rest of the house there was a tall stone chimney and with dark wood shingles a round window at the center of the upper floor and two slightly smaller windows on either side. At the side of the cabin is a large chimney which I assume is how he kept warm during the colder seasons. With my heightened senses, I could hear a creak of wood and a rush of water. I walked around the house and followed the creek we had first seen on the road. The creek leads to a pond in the back area of the cabin that has a water mill connected to the back of it. “Oris is this how you get electricity?” I waited for a response and noticed the water lilies floating at the surface of the pond. I heard the sound of footsteps and then Oris “Yeah it’s pretty efficient when the generator stops working but in all my time living here the generator stopped working once” I hummed my response and then Stacy said, “Woah you have a pond in your backyard” sounding very excited. I heard Zari giggle and say “Calm down Stacy or you’ll fall in” and then Zen said, “Woah are those real lily pads?”   Oris laughed and nodded his head and then I asked: “How long have you been living here Oris?” he looked towards the lily pads and said “Well I’ve been living here since I started working for the Capo of Circo De La Rosa so about 5 years, I mean with my skill set, it didn’t take long for me to climb the Ranks and have the position I have today” I nodded my head taking in his answer and then I said: “Will you finally tell us more about this?” He didn't look away from the lily pads and looking like he was lost in his thoughts he responded “Sure why don’t you all get your things so we can settle you all in” “Okay, I’ll go get the bags” Said Zen taking off and jogging back over to the car. Oris looks our way and smiles as he slings his arm over my shoulder and starts to walk slightly pulling me away from the pond and back to the Veranda. “Hey did you build this place?” Oris walks up to the door and pulls out a set of keys. He shuffles them around and then stops on the key with the skull on it and puts it in the lock. “Yeah well after proving my loyalty they gave me a shed that was in this spot” as we walked in to look at the place. The floor was polished shore pine and redwood walls. The ceiling had an overhead branch chandelier, and glass pane windows along with dark wood beams, the vibe his house gave off was cozy and cool with its rustic design.  “A shed!?" Said Stacy with wide eyes as she stood in the living room on the first floor "You're telling me that just from a shed you built a freaking log cabin! How the heck did you manage that!?”  Oris only smiled and then went to sit on the brown leather sectional in front of the stone fireplace. I went to sit next to him and he engulfed me into a hug, he slightly let go but kept one arm around me. Zen went to sit or more like sprawled on the loveseat, Stacy sat next to me and Zari sat in the recliner. •ORIS• I saw as my little cousin and her pack got comfortable and situated to listen to my story I thought it was adorable. They all looked at me to begin and I started to smile as I spoke: “You know before I met you Xo I was supposed to be the Next Alpha of my Pack?” I said it was like a question waiting for her reaction “What the s**t are you serious!?” I heard gasps as if what I said Had just registered and couldn’t help but smile at them.  I hugged Xo a little tightly for reassurance and she didn’t seem to mind because she was more focused on what I had said I snuggled her closer and began to stroke her hair as I said “Yeah well your mom's brother my Dad was the Alpha of The Herculean Sisyphean Pack know for their power and tenacity to never back down,”  I paused to look at all their faces. “Having them as allies would be a pack's greatest advantage. The name alone means requiring great strength or effort in a task such that it can never be completed. A name given by our family said to be Descendants of Huitzilopochtli the god of war, the sun, and sacrifice himself” they all looked very astonished that we come from such a powerful pack.  "That's why Xo never really bowed down to the alpha command because your mom had Alpha blood" Xo looked like she was deep in thought and then said, "If she had Alpha blood how did Grandpa take her being mated to a beta?" I really didn't want to tell her then Pan said  'rip bandaid'  'I really should huh'  I mentally sighed and then I said "Grandpa didn't take it very well he kinda disowned Aunt Loren because as the daughter of an alpha she should be mated to an Alpha"  Xo looked shocked but before her mood changed  "But you already know how Aunt Loren was she was stubborn and she told Grandpa to suck it and left home to be with her mate only keeping in contact with my Dad" she smiled then and I simply just gave her head a gentle pat “What was it like to grow up there?” I looked at Zen who was the first friend I had made in the Stark Pine pack who I had been my partner in crime and knew my secrets. I thought about how I would put this and so it wouldn't sound so bad and then said: “Well when your Alpha in training your training starts at 13 but with the way grandpa and my dad were I was trained as an adult from that moment on.” “What do you mean adult?” I looked at Stacy who was hugging the pillow. I smiled when I remembered meeting her for the first time but I answered “Well the kind of training you both underwent but a little harder since every time I lost a match my father would beat me” Stacy gasped and Xoila hugged me a little harder. “And your mom would just let it happen?”  I thought back on how my mom reacted  “She knew that as Alpha her son would have to go to great lengths to keep everyone safe, So in order to do so, he had to be broken before he would be strong enough to protect the pack. So she would turn a blind eye to the grueling training but always nursed my wounds because there was only so much I could heal on my own without my wolf” I waited a bit before I continued.  “My father was a very traditional man, very Macho he believed that as men no matter how strong the woman is, we must be strong enough to keep them safe. He and granddad always said that the moon goddess bestowed upon us strong women and that is why our pack thrives. My Dad, he was always hard on me beating me when I messed up or stepped one toe out of line...I mean if I so much as looked at him wrong that earned me a beat down"  then I felt Xoila shudder and remembered that she went through something similar but then Zari asked, "Did he ever hurt your mom?" I thought about how much he loved her then said "He was always respectful of my mother and never once tried to hurt her. Our pack had a saying that behind a fearsome man is a strong and powerful woman”  All of the girls smiled then but I could feel my heart sting at these words “I understood how precious a woman was because they have the ability to carry life. Women with a little bit of help from their partner had the ability to form another life and I always thought it was beautiful. So growing up that was always my dream to have a big family with a strong beautiful woman.”  I paused taking a deep breath and continuing "As I got older I started to notice things about myself” I  felt my breath go shaky  “At the age of 15 when I had finally surpassed my father's strength and hit puberty, I realized that I... I didn’t like women. I came to this conclusion because although there were a lot of beautiful women in our pack I was always very drawn to this boy in the pack. As I spent my free time with him I realized that I liked this boy and his name was Warren. The fact that I was attracted to him and not a woman made me give up on the idea of having a family and prayed to the moon goddess to let me live my truth and be happy with someone like Warren.” “As time went on I finally had turned 16 and you all know what that means right?” I looked at Xo expectantly but heard Zari instead her voice quivered as she spoke: “You found your mate.” I nodded as I remembered that day “A lot of us had just turned 16 then and everyone had hoped to meet their mate in their pack, others were ready to leave to find them” I smiled  “That day it smelled strongly of freshly fallen rain and cinnamon. I remember asking others around me if they smelled the scent too but the scents they described were different. I started following the scent as I moved through the curious gazes of others I kept walking until I collided with the werewolf the scent was coming from and much to my surprise there was Warren.”  I felt a tear escaped me “He was made just for me”  •3rd P- ORIS• Warren had braced for impact but never hit the ground because he was engulfed by the scent of an ocean breeze mixed with mint and pine. The scent was so strong that he felt his cheeks burn bright pink he was so distracted by the scent that it took him a moment to realize that he was in the embrace of two strong arms. He could feel the sparks that were spreading from his arms to the rest of his body overwhelmed by the sudden feeling of being complete.  He looked up to face his mate and was surprised to come face to face with the gentle Oris he felt a surge of joy as they both said “Mate.” Oris smiled as he took his mate's appearance in and helped Warren stand upright. Warren was about 5’7 smaller than most boys but with a slender frame and slightly wider hips. He had sun-kissed skin and violet colored eyes, his hair was wild fawn-colored curls and freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks.  Oris and Pan (His wolf) were overjoyed that the goddess had given them someone they could love wholeheartedly. Oris took Warren into his arms then engulfing his small frame in his much larger one (6’3 at the time) and felt complete.  He whispered “Mine” into Warrens' ear and was filled with joy when Warren said “Yours”  He leaned in to kiss his mate not caring that others were watching and smiled as he moved away from his mate's soft lips. In Warrens' eyes, he saw a future together even if it meant adoption. He was okay with it. Oris wanted nothing more than to take his mate to meet his family. Warren was happy to comply with his mate wanting nothing more than to revel in the happiness of being with the one made just for you. •XOILA• “Both Boys not knowing what fate awaited them as news spread that the soon to be Alpha had a male mate” I looked at Oris and could see that his eyes had gotten cold and steely as he said the next part “Both boys walked into the alphas home then so blinded by the happiness that they didn’t sense the hatred that was sweltering in the air. I mean how could they know that things would end so badly?”  I clung to Oris then because the sadness was radiating off of him in waves then  “The Alpha knew that a mate is a goddess-given gift but he could not accept such an abomination... he couldn’t have his next Alpha be a faggot” his eyes flashed black as he continued •3rd P- ORIS• The Alpha, a man with features much like Oris except he had mahogany brown eyes like his sister with a broader much more muscular frame was sitting on the stairwell filling out some paperwork. The Alpha sometimes liked to sit on the staircase so that when his mate came home he could get her into his embrace faster. He was the only one home since his mate had to go out to help at the pack clinic.  She wanted to stay home and meet her child mate but he said that her duties came first so she told him to wait there so that he could tell her how it went and invite their son's mate over for dinner. He complied and counted the minutes and while waiting for his son to bring the good news of finding the future Luna. Alpha Savage was hopeful that she came from within the Pack so they wouldn't have to go from pack to pack to find her. He heard the front door open and saw his son hand in hand with a boy from the pack. The Alpha started in shock which quickly turned into anger when Oris said: “Father I found my mate” he saw as his son gazed lovingly at his mate. His father stood from the stairwell quickly making his way to his son and the boy and said  “Reject him” Oris came down from cloud nine then and said  “What?” he began to lash out at Oris  “You heard me. Reject him” Oris shook his head in disbelief then and moved in front of Warren “No Father he’s my mate” the Alphas patience was wearing thin  “Son you must reject this mate and find a more suitable woman to be your Luna” Oris was hurt and never expected his father to lash out at him that way  “Father I have done everything that you have asked of me… how could you ask me to do such a thing?” then the Alpha growled out  “I won’t accept such abominations Goddess-given or not” Warren was scared but couldn’t stand the idea of being separated from his mate so moved from behind his mate and said “Alpha please let me be with your son...He’s my mate” the next to happen was unexpected and no one was ready for it.  The Alpha let out a ferocious growl and grabbed Warren by the throat and in one swift movement slammed him into the stone Staircase fracturing his neck. Killing him almost instantly.  •XOILA• “That day my father killed my mate. And seconds later he disowned me and sent me to Aunt Loren's pack cutting ties with her immediately after.”
