Elizabeth’s POV
I lay on the bed in Kyle’s room; my legs wrapped around his waist as he stroked my back with his hand. We had kissed and talked until the sun was setting through his window, getting to know one another. Helen and Lucas had both linked me separately throughout the day, and I told them I was getting to know my mate. They didn’t bother me after that.
I was appreciative Kyle didn’t try to push s*x on me. I did, however, give him a blow job, which he was shocked about. In return, he gave me the most euphoric orgasm I have ever experienced with his tongue, and I hate to say it, but I’m falling for him, big time.
“What’s it like not living with the ability to speak?” Kyle asked, stroking the back of my hand again. I was waiting for a question like this.
“It’s been a part of my life since I was 10; I haven’t really thought about it. Um… I was shocked at first, I didn’t know what was going on,” I told him, trying to piece the words together. “When Grandpa Horice told us what had happened, I realized mum and Aunty Lucinda were trying to keep us safe. It’s a part of me now. It’s not so bad because I can still speak, just in people’s minds or Lacey comes forward for those we can’t mind link.”
“I couldn’t imagine losing one of my senses. We rely on them as werewolves. Losing one must be devastating,” Kyle added, and I simply shrugged my shoulders. We learned to live with it and if he lost one of his senses, he would learn to live with it too.
“It’s not as difficult as you may think. Once one is gone, the others take over. Look at Helen, for instance. She can’t see, but she can detect others by smell and sound. It’s made her, me and Lucas more acceptable to our other senses,” I explained, and Kyle nodded his head as though he was remembering something. “I can hear my voice in my own head. That’s probably why I can mind link. But I can also hear, smell and see better.”
“We should get some food,” Kyle whispered, changing the subject and unwrapping my legs from around his waist. I was going to protest and tell him I wasn’t hungry, but my stomach turned traitor on me with a huge grumble. I nodded my head and got up from the bed.
We walk down the hallway, hand in hand. I couldn’t stop the smile on my face; and by the looks of it, Kyle couldn’t either.
“You two finally decided to come up for air,” Lucas announced as we walked into the dining hall. I glared at my brother, who started laughing, and I gave him my usual gesture, by flipping him off.
“Are you staying at the castle?” Josie asks me, grinning from ear to ear as Uncle Steven glared at Kyle. He was always protective of all of us and stepped up as the father figure we needed. I never remember him glaring at Shelby or Ethan when Peter and Eden found their mate, but I was at school when it happened. He could have.
“I hope she does,” Kyle answered as my cheeks began to turn pink. “At the end of the day, it will be up to Lizzy if she wants to stay here.”
We took a seat and I saw Kyle’s eyes glaze over. He let out a grunt of disapproval as I turned to glance at his mother. I give her a small smile before Kyle grabbed my hand and placed it on his thigh. I can sense he is angry and sad at the same time. This must be what they mean when they say we can feel each other’s emotions through the bond. It’s probably because the bond is getting stronger. “What did we miss?” Kyle asked, glancing at everyone around the table.
“Not much at all,” Helen said, keeping a grin on her face. Hunter was sitting next to her, and he gave her a wink. I don’t know why he keeps doing that, because it’s not like she can see him, unless Caitlyn is telling her he is. There were a few chuckles around the table as I drew in a breath, pushing the food around my plate, feeling uncomfortable all of a sudden. I could feel everyone’s eyes were now on me with my hand on Kyle’s thigh. I quickly moved it and took a few gulps of water from the glass on the table.
“Everything, OK?” Kyle whispered, grabbing my hand and placing it back under the table. He keeps hold of it this time, and I realized he must be able to feel my emotions too. I nodded my head, trying to push back the anxiety I was feeling. “Then eat your dinner, and we can go back to my room.”
There were a few knowing smirks, and my cheeks grew hotter with the stares aimed towards me from around the table. Deciding to concentrate on my plate, I began to shovel as much food in my mouth as it could hold. To my relief, everyone else followed suit and I had finished my plate before I knew it.
“May we be excused,” Kyle asked, staring at Queen Maxine. She nodded her head promptly, and he pulled me up from my chair, and we headed out of the dining room.
“What did your mother say to you?” I asked, and Kyle shook his head in my direction. Why won’t he tell me? Did she not like me? I didn’t get that impression when I was chatting with her before the ceremony. Was she just putting on a facade for me instead of telling me what she really thought?
“What’s not to like?” Lacey said, coming forward in my mind. I don’t answer her, but I know the answer always remains the same. Being a hybrid is one thing; not having a voice is another, and I’m a combination of the two. “Pfft. If that’s a reason to not like you, then to hell with her.”
We got back to Kyle’s room, and he shut the door behind us, while I wandered to the sofa, getting ready for the rejection he needed to do. I know I was ready to reject him, but I have fallen for him. This is going to hurt more than ever, knowing I can’t have him. “OK; reject me and get it over and done with,” I signed as Kyle’s mouth dropped open.
“Reject you? What are you talking about?” Kyle asked, taking a seat next to me with hurt and confusion etched into his brown eyes. “Why would you think I was going to reject you?”
“Because,” I signed, struggling to come up with the words to follow. “You were angry and sad at the same time as you were linking up with your mum. I could feel it,” I told him, and he let out a hearty chuckle.
“Mum was lecturing me about the sanctity of mateship and was pissed I was having s*x with Molly this morning before I met you,” Kyle explained, and I let out a breath in relief. I should have known it was about what we discussed before the ceremony. “She also said, You are to stay here, and she won’t take no for an answer. I told her we can’t force you to stay if you don’t want to. I want you to stay, but…” he trailed off, and I could feel his apprehension.
I pulled his face to look at me. “I want to stay,” I signed, beaming a smile at him. He pushed his mouth to mine, and I climbed over his lap to straddle him.
“I am never going to reject you and if you reject me, I am never going to accept it. You are stuck with me forever, Elizabeth Surry,” Kyle whispered with a deep husky voice as he began to plant kisses down my jawline. Goddess, that feels good.
“Stay here tonight,” he said, slowly trailing his lips down my neck. I think he asked me to stay tonight, and I’m not sure if he was asking or telling me. My mind is such a blur. I nodded my head as he lifted me from the sofa and I wrapped my legs around his waist, while he carefully walked me to the bed and placed me in the center.
He walked over to the other room I had noticed earlier and came back in boxer shorts, while holding a red T-shirt in his hand. “Put this on. You will be more comfortable than sleeping in your dress.”
I raised my eyebrows before grinning and taking the shirt from his hand before taking off my dress and put the shirt over my head. It was so big on me, coming down to my mid-thigh. I reached up behind me and unclasped my bra, pulling each shoulder strap down through the armholes before pulling the bra out and placing it on the side of the bed. “You are going to be the death of me,” Kyle stammered, and I grinned, lying back on the pillows.
Kyle put his arms around me, stroking his fingers down my thigh as I nestled my back into his chest and closed my eyes, allowing his scent to lull me to sleep.
“Liz?” Kyle’s sleepy voice came through my mind.
“Hmm?” I replied just as sleepily.
“Promise me you won’t try to reject me again,” Kyle said, and I opened my eyes, rolling over to face him before propping myself up on my elbow.
“I promise,” I answered, pecking him on the mouth as he closed his eyes again, a smile plastered on his face. I lay my head down on his shoulder, and we slowly drifted off to sleep.
