CHAPTER 2

Nicholas heard screams before he saw anything. The door to his office hit the wall and the nanny he appointed for his niece and nephew stood before him completely covered in flour. She looked furious and took heavy steps to his desk. He calmly placed his phone on the desk and steepled his fingers. "I'm sorry, Your grace. I can't work here anymore. They are not children. They are little devils. They never listen to anything and they don't study. Always wanting to play and cause mischief. I quit." She left the office in a hurry after saying this and Nick ran a hand down his face tiredly. He picked up his phone to call his assistant. "Diana, Find another nanny for my niece and nephew. I want a potential candidate by evening." Without listening to her he cut the call and went in search of the kids. He found them in the kitchen eating. "Miss. Kostas left just now. Don't think that just because you made her quit that there will not be another one. Another nanny is coming in a few days. Both of you be on your best behavior. You are a prince and princess. So start behaving like one. I'm already late for a meeting. I will see you in the evening. " He kissed their foreheads and left in a hurry. By the time it's evening he is exhausted and briefly closed his eyes. Being a prince and having his own company is not doing him any favors. He has double the work to before he became a prince with the death of his brother. And he didn't have the time to spend with his niece and nephew like he did before everything. A knock on the door brought him out of his thoughts.  "Come in." His assistant Diana opened the door carrying a folder which she placed on the desk near him. He looked at her without taking the folder. "I found a nanny for the kids, Mr. Christakos. Her name is Alexandra Knight. She is from America and has a young daughter your niece's age. I thought they will take to someone who is from their mother's home country. And with a kid their age they will be more inclined to listen. She comes highly recommended. She is currently in between jobs and is taking a break to spend time with her daughter. " He finally opened the folder and saw her CV along with the background check done on her. He casually glimpsed at the end where his head of security normally writes about the applicant. After checking that everything is fine he closed it and looked at Diana. "Call Miss. Knight and inform her on the job offer and you know what to do. Get her to Greece by the end of the week." "Yes, Mr. Christakos." She left the room and he finally breathes easy hoping that this nanny will stay longer than the others. He decided to go home and walked out of the office. After reaching home he informed Mrs. Ariti that there will a new nanny for the kids by the end of the week.  He walked into his office and sat down to do some work. But his thoughts went to Dimitri and Amelia. He never saw two people more in love with each other than them. But sadly they were gone and left two children behind. He did not know what to do with the kids. He loves them but he did not know how to express it to them or to tell them that. He knew it's not healthy growing up like this from personal experience but he did not know what to do anymore. Mrs. Ariti tries to help but she is getting old and he did not know what he will do when she leaves too. He knows her from when he was a little kid. She brought him and his brother up when his parents are busy ruling or going away on trips and having terrible fights in front of him and Dimitri. His thoughts went back to the day the kids were born. He was busy in a meeting when he got the call that Amelia is in labor. By the time he reached the hospital she gave birth to the twins. He was the first one to hold Anastasia. He could not believe she was so small now she became a little terror. After holding Alistaire for a while , he heard Amelia call his name. "Nick." "Yes." She looked at Dimitri and they both looked at him. "We want you to be their godfather." "Godfather?" "Yes. Godfather. If something happened to us you would be responsible for them before anyone else." "Nothing will happen to you." "Yes, nothing will happen to us but it is better to be prepared for every eventuality. " "Then I would like that and promise to take care of them should anything happen to you." He then looked at Anastasia in his arms and started talking with her. "I'm your Uncle Nick. And I'm going to spoil you and your brother." "Don't spoil them. Let them learn and be humble." He heard Amelia and saw Dimitri laugh at him. "Of course not." Saying this he winked at the kids. After a while a nurse took them away. After the nurse left with the kids he turned towards them.  "Why are you talking about dying?" "The death threats increased after Amelia got pregnant. She is scared about what will happen to them after we are gone." "Nothing will happen to the both of you. You will a long and happy life with your kids and Amelia will eat my brain with all her talks about love and my marriage." "Well I will not do that if you fall in love and marry someone. Then I will not be the only woman in your little group." "And I already told you I'm not marrying anyone." "Leave it both of you." Dimitri shouted before the start of an argument between them like always.  "But promise us that you will take care of our kids." "I will take care of the kids if anything happens to you." "You promise?" "Yes. I promise." "And we already updated our wills with you getting the kids if anything happens to us." "When did this happen?" "A few months back when we decided who would become our kid's godfather." After all that serious talk they started talking about the kids. Nick got sad thinking about them and remembering his promise. He did not know if what he is doing is right or not for the kids. He thought about what his brother and Amelia would think of him if they saw how he is taking care of their kids.   He finally got up as he is not able to work anymore. He checked on the kids and saw them sleeping. After their parent's accident they never left each other's sight and are even sleeping in the same bed. He did not know when they will be like before. He wished taking care of children is as easy as doing business. The nanny could not come soon enough with the way things are going. He hoped this one would be different.
