Episode 1 — The Boy Without Magic
Episode 1 — The Boy Without Magic The bells of Elarion rang thirteen times. Across the capital city, people stopped what they were doing. Merchants stepped out of their shops. Children crowded around windows. Mages paused in the middle of their conversations and looked toward the enormous crystal tower rising above the city. Today was Awakening Day. For generations, every seventeen-year-old in the Kingdom of Elarion had gathered at the Grand Hall to discover their magical affinity. Fire. Water. Wind. Earth. Lightning. Light. Darkness. The strongest were celebrated. The weakest were forgotten. And those who possessed no magic at all were considered little more than ordinary people. Kael Arvane stood among hundreds of seventeen-year-olds waiting outside the Grand Hall. He kept his hands inside his coat pockets. Around him, nervous voices filled the courtyard. "My father says I have enough mana to become a fourth-circle mage." "I'm going to awaken Fire Magic. I know it." "My brother awakened Lightning last year. Our family has always produced lightning mages." Kael listened quietly. He had heard these conversations every year. But he had never been part of them. His family had no famous mages. His parents were ordinary villagers who had moved to the capital when Kael was young. His father worked as a blacksmith, while his mother sold herbs and medicine. They had never expected Kael to become powerful. In fact, there was one thing everyone in their neighborhood already believed about him. Kael had no magic. When he was ten, a village mage examined his mana channels. When he was thirteen, another mage tested him. At sixteen, he tried again. Every result was the same. Almost no mana. No elemental affinity. Nothing. "You really came." A familiar voice interrupted his thoughts. Kael turned. A tall boy with blond hair approached him, surrounded by several friends. Darian Voss. The youngest son of House Voss, one of Elarion's most powerful magical families. Darian smiled. "Still hoping the crystal will magically fix you?" A few people laughed. Kael looked at him calmly. "I didn't know you were worried about me." "I'm not." Darian stepped closer. "I'm just curious how someone with no magic plans to survive today's ceremony." Kael shrugged. "I'll survive the same way I survived yesterday." Darian's smile disappeared. Before he could answer, the Grand Hall doors opened. A powerful voice echoed across the courtyard. "Candidates, enter." Everyone became silent. Kael followed the crowd inside. The Grand Hall was enormous. Seven massive statues stood along the walls, representing the seven recognized elements. At the center of the room stood the Awakening Crystal. It was nearly three meters tall. Ancient symbols covered its surface. One by one, the candidates approached. A girl placed her hand against the crystal. It turned red. "Fire affinity!" Applause erupted. Another candidate stepped forward. The crystal turned blue. "Water affinity!" More applause. Then came lightning. Wind. Earth. Light. Even darkness. Each awakening was celebrated. Then Darian Voss stepped forward. He placed his hand on the crystal. For a moment, nothing happened. Then— BOOM! Golden lightning exploded across the hall. The crystal shone brilliantly. Several instructors stood up in surprise. "Lightning affinity!" "That's not ordinary Lightning Magic!" "His mana is already at the third circle!" Darian smiled proudly as the crowd erupted. He looked toward Kael. His expression seemed to say, This is the difference between us. Kael looked away. One candidate remained before him. Then the instructor called his name. "Kael Arvane." The hall became strangely quiet. Kael walked toward the crystal. Whispers followed him. "That's the boy with no mana." "I heard he failed three times." "Why is he even here?" "Maybe they'll finally send him home." Kael ignored them. He reached the crystal. The instructor looked at him with sympathy. "Place your hand against it." Kael slowly raised his hand. His palm touched the crystal. Nothing happened. One second. Two. Three. The instructor sighed. "As expected." Someone laughed. Kael lowered his head. Then— Crack. A tiny sound echoed through the hall. Kael looked up. A thin black line appeared inside the crystal. The instructor froze. "What..." Another crack appeared. Then another. Crack. Crack. CRACK! The entire Awakening Crystal began shaking. The magical symbols covering its surface turned black. Everyone stepped backward. "What is happening?" The crystal suddenly released a shockwave. BOOM! People were thrown from their feet. Kael remained standing. His eyes widened. Something was burning beneath his skin. His right hand. A strange black symbol appeared across his palm. It looked like a circle surrounded by ancient runes. Kael stared at it. Then he heard a voice. Not from the room. Not from the people around him. From inside his mind. Finally. Kael froze. Who are you? The voice laughed softly. After all these centuries... you have awakened. Kael's heart began pounding. What are you talking about? The black mark pulsed. Suddenly, the entire hall went silent. Not because everyone had stopped speaking. Because everyone was staring at the crystal. A giant crack had formed from its top to its base. Then the impossible happened. The Awakening Crystal shattered. Thousands of fragments floated in the air. But instead of falling, they began orbiting Kael. Dark energy surrounded his body. The instructors raised their staffs. "Everyone get back!" Darian stared at Kael in disbelief. "That's impossible..." One of the oldest instructors, a white-haired mage named Master Orien, stepped forward. His face had lost all color. He wasn't looking at Kael's magic. He was looking at the symbol on Kael's palm. "No..." His voice trembled. "That mark..." Kael looked at him. "What is it?" Master Orien didn't answer. He simply stared. Then he whispered four words. "The Arcane King's mark." The hall erupted into chaos. People began shouting. "Arcane King?" "That's impossible!" "The Arcane King died centuries ago!" "Wasn't his entire bloodline destroyed?" Kael couldn't understand. The Arcane King. Even children knew that name. He was the legendary ruler who had once controlled the greatest magical kingdom in history. According to the official history books, the Arcane King had attempted to use forbidden magic and nearly destroyed the world. He was eventually defeated. His kingdom disappeared. His bloodline was supposedly erased. Kael looked at his hand. The black symbol continued glowing. "I don't understand." Master Orien stepped backward. "You shouldn't exist." Kael's expression hardened. "What does that mean?" Before the instructor could answer, every candle in the Grand Hall went out. Darkness swallowed the room. Then something appeared behind Kael. A giant shadow. Two enormous red eyes opened within it. Everyone screamed. The shadow leaned toward Kael. And the voice inside his head spoke again. They found you. Kael turned. Nothing was there. The shadow had vanished. But the black mark on his hand suddenly burned brighter. Outside the Grand Hall, the sky changed. Clouds gathered above Elarion. Lightning flashed across the heavens. Then a massive magical pulse spread from the Grand Hall and traveled beyond the capital. Far away, in an ancient castle hidden beneath a mountain, a hooded figure opened his eyes. For centuries, he had waited. He slowly stood from his throne. "The heir has awakened." Several black-robed figures lowered their heads. "Should we capture him?" The hooded man smiled. "No." He looked toward the distant capital. "Let him grow." One of the figures hesitated. "And if he becomes as powerful as the Arcane King?" The hooded man turned. "Then we will kill him before he remembers who he truly is." Back in Elarion, Kael stood alone in the shattered Grand Hall. Everyone was staring at him. Some looked frightened. Others looked fascinated. And a few were already reaching for their weapons. Kael clenched his marked hand. He had spent seventeen years believing he was powerless. Now everyone was looking at him as though he were something dangerous. But the voice in his mind had one final message. Your magic was never missing, Kael Arvane. The black mark pulsed. It was sealed. Kael's eyes widened. Before he could ask another question, the ancient voice whispered: And tonight, the seal will break.
