Chapter 1
First few chapters are written in Third person and then others are narrated by the characters.
Hope you have a good read!
Also, it is a mature story, so it will have a lot of s*x scenes.
"Why did you choose that poor girl?" Greg asked his friend Oliver pointing to the girl sitting in the garden reading a book.
"It's a contract and I want it to stay that way. Sophia is a simple girl. She doesn't talk much, she keeps to herself and more than anything she doesn't try to get my attention."
"And bonus part is I'm not attracted to her, so it's a win-win situation." He further explained.
"She's very smart, though" he said.
Oliver saw the look in Greg's eyes as he eyed his wife.
"She's still my wife, Greg. She's off-limits" he said, a little more sternly this time.
Greg threw up his hands in the air and said sorry.
Oliver looked back to where Sophia was sitting, completely lost in her book. Her dark brown hair still drying from the shower she just took, he guessed. She was dressed in light blue jeans and an oversized sweater. She didn't have an ounce of make up on her and she never bothered to wear unless she had to accompany Oliver to a party or something of that sort.
Sophia Alvarez was an enigma. He knew nothing about her other than the fact that she was studying to become a Lawyer and her ailing brother who had an autoimmune disease for which he was on life long medication.
It has been a month since they got married and the longest they had spoken to each other was probably 5minutes.
Oliver got up and went inside his mansion along with Greg. They both got themselves a beer each and sat down on the living room couch to discuss their partnership on a new project.
-X-
Sophia closed the book and sighed with relief. She felt awkward to have Oliver and Greg look at her and talk something. She didn't care about what they spoke. She was just glad for Oliver saving her life, almost literally.
It has been a month since their marriage.
One month.
She looked down at the large stone on her finger. One month ago she thought she would lose everything, but somehow she was saved. She had a roof over her head, she could continue her studies, her dead father's debts weren't a worry and most importantly her baby brother was fine and healthy.
She looked at the mansion. It was so intimidating. She didn't belong here, she knew that. The glamour, the luxury, the rich and their way of life were very alien to Sophia. She didn't have the face nor the spine for it. But she had signed a contract and if Sophia Alvarez commits to something, she will give it her all.
Just 11 more months.
She got up from the swing and walked inside the building she now had to call her house. She saw Oliver and his friend Greg discussing something important in the living room. She walked to the kitchen to get something to eat.
"Ma'am. I'm sorry, I didn't see you there" Martha said.
"Martha, please call me Sophia"
"I don't know if Sir would be okay with that" Martha replied looking down at the floor.
Sophia sighed.
"Alright, when he's not around you can call me Sophia, how does that sound?"
"Okay...Sophia" Martha said, hesitantly.
"Can I get you something to eat. Perhaps a sandwich?" She asked.
"Yeah, a sandwich would be great."
-X-
Sophia heard someone knock on her door.
"Come in" She said, softly.
The door opened to reveal Oliver.
"Oliver" She said as she got up from her study table.
"Is this a bad time?" He asked, looking at atleast five books on her table.
"No, no problem" she answered looking anywhere but him.
"Are you free tomorrow night?" He asked.
Sophia looked at him surprised.
"Ugh, yeah.....I guess" she answered.
Oliver noticed how she never looks him in the eye. It irritated him in the beginning but he learnt to accept it.
Oliver intimidated Sophia like nobody else. He stood tall at 6'3 although she herself was pretty tall at 5'8. His body was built like somebody who spent their whole day at the gym. Even now, his biceps were threatening to rip that white shirt of his. And his face, well it was..
Perfect.
He was like those men you'd heard about in stories, those Prince Charming ones. Handsome, charming and kind.
Oliver was all that but he was extremely reserved. Not only to her, but to everyone else she had realised in the last one month.
"Sophia..?" He called out. God did I drift off into my thoughts again?
"Ye-ah..yeah I am free tomorrow"
"Okay ummm"
"So there's a fundraiser and I want you to accompany me"
"Okay"
"Don't worry about the clothes and stuff, I'll send someone to get you the best."
"Okay. Thanks" she said with her hands in her pockets trying not to look so awkward.
"Alright, you should get back to your studies" he says with a smile, that Sophia admired.
"Yeah, I should" she says and watches him walk away.
Sophia sighs as he leaves the room and it feels normal again. Oliver was just too, she didn't know the right word....he was too much to take in.
She got back to her studies and tried not to think about tomorrow's fundraiser. Too many rich, pretty people and she would never fit in. Not like she was trying to, but she had to because she was Oliver's wife.
They'll see right through me.
She worried about what an embarrassment she will be to him. She still can't wrap her head around how and why Oliver approached her with the marriage contract. She knew she was average, at least for a man like, Oliver she was. All her life she had been overlooked, called not pretty, average, simple, too pain, nothing great, etc that she was used to it. She didn't mind at this point. She knew it, she had accepted it.
Maybe that's why Oliver chose her. He knew she was weak, she couldn't fight back. She wouldn't be a distraction to him.
She was invisible.
That's why he chose her.
