Chapter 1 A One Night Stand
It was late at the club with heavy partying between Alex and his friends. He had just secured a billion-dollar deal for his family company, and they came to celebrate.
Alex was already getting drunk when he suggested they go home but one of his friends declined.
“ Oh come on man, you know you won't get to spend much time like this any longer. So you had better enjoy this day to the fullest”. Reeve suggested they play a game.
“So, I want you to choose any woman you would like to have fun with tonight”, Caleb proposed, but Alex declined.
“ No, I'm not interested in that, I just want to go home now,” he said lazily.
Well, they had already planned for their friend to spend the night with someone, so they just had to get him to the room.
Alex could barely walk when his friends dragged him to a room, and he sat down. He knew what they brought him here for.
He wasn't too comfortable with this kind of stuff, but he couldn't protest. Anyway, he wouldn't get the time to have this much fun, so he decided to go with the flow.
This was his night and he decided to enjoy it to the fullest. He waited patiently for the woman to enter the room.
When the door opened, a slim figure entered. His vision was blurry so he couldn't clearly see her.
She looked shy, as though she had never done it before. He patted the bed for her to sit, which she hesitantly did.
He needed to clear a few things, so he said “A one night. No names. No regrets.”
The women simply nodded. Her name was Lily Evans. She worked at the club as a waitress and was sent here by her boss to serve a client. She didn't know this was what he meant.
Lily would never have agreed to a one-night stand. But something about this stranger made her give in to the temptation. She had always been responsible, but tonight, she wanted to be the reckless one.
Maybe it was the light of the room, maybe it was his intoxicating scent, or maybe it was just the way he looked at her, like she was the only woman in the world. She had never felt this valued by a stranger before and that alone broke every ounce of resistance in her.
Alex slowly leaned in and kissed Lily. Her lips were soft and sweet. He had kissed a few women before, but they didn't taste like her.
She felt so delicate in his arms as he pressed her on the bed and loomed over her.
He saw a butterfly tattoo on her nape, and he kissed her there.
Their bodies intertwined as he explored every part of her body. He kissed her slowly and passionately as she wrapped her arms round him. Everything seemed to fade away as the only thing they were caught in was that precious moment.
The night was a long and passionate one and Alex knew he would never forget it.
…..
The next morning, Alex woke up with no one by his side. He searched all over the room for her, but he couldn't find her. His phone rang and he knew who was calling. It was obviously his grandpa.
The weight of the phone suddenly became heavy as Alex heard his grandpa's voice over the phone.
“I guess you've heard the news,” Charles Ford said with confidence.
Alex sighed before saying “Yes, I saw it this morning on TV. You couldn't help making such a delicate matter public, did you?”
“Well, what can I say? "I'm a man who seeks constant attention and, after all, this is the engagement of my only grandson, so it had to be heard by all”, Charles Lee said pleasantly.
A muscle in Alex's jaw twitched as he heard the word engagement. He knew this was coming but hearing it didn't make it any easier to digest.
“It's high time you stop running away and settle down," Alex. "This engagement will solidify our bond with the Harrisons”, Charles Ford said with a smile.
“I know that grandpa,” Alex said reluctantly.
“I know you are not having second thoughts about this, Alexander. "Remember you are not an ordinary person, you have a legacy to uphold, and this merger will increase your power and the company's strength.”
“I can build my company by myself,” Alex said.
“Oh, I have no doubt about that, Alex, but you need a partner and, trust me, Eleanor will be a perfect match. Not only is she pretty, but she has the wealth and status to understand our world”, Charles countered.
Alex's grip on the phone tightened. All his life he was raised to fulfill his responsibility towards his family, but that night he had felt something from that complete stranger.
For the first time, he felt there was more to life than just power and riches. She was not just some arranged or strategic plan for him. She was genuine, and he knew that she was a threat.
“I trust you to make the right decision, Alexander. "Do not disappoint me”, Charles said in a flat tone.
“I'll take care of it”. Alex needed the call.
For the first time, he had no idea what taking care of something truly meant.
Alex went downstairs but he couldn't find her. He had no idea what she looked like. He didn't even know her name. The only thing he could remember was her butterfly tattoo. Frustrated, he left and went to meet his friends.
Reeve was lying lazily on the bed with two women beside him when he heard a knock on his door.
He knew only one person would dare to knock this early. He opened the door to see Alex outside. “What are you doing here this early man?”
Alex ignored him and asked “the lady you paired me up with last night". What is her name?”
“I'm sorry bro but we just asked the manager to send us his best waitress so we didn't get her personal information” Reeve said with a perplexed expression.
Disappointed, he left and decided to look for her later at the same club.
Alex knew what he had to do. He couldn't marry Eleanor, not anymore. He felt something no one had made him feel before. He needed to find that stranger at all costs.
He decided to meet his grandpa and clarify things.
When he reached the penthouse, Charles leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window as if he knew Alex was coming.
Alex came in with a serious expression.
“Have a seat”, his grandpa told him, but Alex declined.
Alex had always let this man dictate his life because he knew his grandpa wanted the best for him, but this time, he would call the shots of his life. Taking a deep breath, Alex said.
“ I won't marry Eleanor grandpa.”
