THEOS! Alexander smacked himself mentally. He shouldn't have done that.. He shouldn't have kissed her—Maybe that's what six years of celibacy does to someone. His body had flared alive for the first time in six years and it was because of her. Always Selene.
He sat down on the table opposite Selene's with his date who was super clingy and chatting nonstop about meeting up with the Queen of England herself! He picked up his phone pretending to be looking at it, an act he learned a long time to keep people away from him but all the while he was thinking. What had happened to the titian-haired beauty he’d met and fallen in love with six years ago. The memory of her slid into his mind like the diaphanous caress of sensuous silk. Closing his eyes, he could almost taste her. He could even recall her perfume, something musky, with hints of Jasmine and Lavender in it. It had also been in her titian long flowing hair, and there had been traces on her milk and honey skin too.
His nose flared. She was with Scott now so he had to forget about her except that he couldn't because she had kissed him back. The experience had been an utter revelations as though it couldn’t have been more right or perfect. For an endless seeming moment he’d been dizzy with longing for her no matter what his morals was telling him—the woman who had hunted his dreams for six years was here and sitting not five feet from him. So what's stopping him from claiming her? Scott! Always Scott! He won't let his desires for Selene cause a rift between him and Scott.
His eyes lifted from his phone and rested on her but she was in deep conversation with Scott. He willed her to look at him, just for a second, to show him that she desire him like he does to her and it was like she heard him because her face lifted and stared deeply at him which caused him to grit his teeth together for not been able to read her. She turned back to Scott and gave him her sweetest smile which caused his blood to boil. What is she playing at? Pretending that he's not in the same room with her? He wanted answers and fast and the only person that could give it to him refused to acknowledge him after kissing him back. She called it curiosity but one thing was certain, he won't be letting her off the hook that easily.
Selene excused herself and went to the bathroom where she pretended to apply a touch of powder on her face and a dab of mascara. She'd barely able to eat a thing through the evening and now, it was time to go home. She'd made a huge mistake in kissing Alexander back. Why had she ever thought it would only be a simple act of curiosity? It had become all consuming and her heart ached.
Those last few moments together had been so intense, so profound but the memory of them was now so painful.
He had ended things between them to marry another woman.
And she was heartbroken that she ran.
What kind of monster sleeps with a woman and announced his engagement to her?
'The kind that's in the ballroom glaring daggers at you because he thinks he own you.' Her subconscious mind whispered back to her which aroused her anger. Alexander Christos does not own her and he wouldn't. She wanted to march over to his table and make it known to him but she won't let her emotions get the better of her. She had moved forward, she’d long known how it felt not to be wanted or needed or loved by him, but she’d never let that stop her from being successful or giving birth and taking care of her daughter alone. She'd go back to that room with her head high and her self pride in check because she might have failed as a daughter to her parents, a princess to her kingdom but she have never failed to be a mom to her daughter and that alone is the reason why she ought to do that.
“As long as you keep your distance from Alexander Christos.” A voice whispered in her head but she trumped it down.
She was a successful woman and a good mother to her daughter, it's high time she showed him that.
Selene exited the bathroom and moved towards the ballroom where some couple had already taking their place to dance and several several society faces were now familiar to her and they welcomed her. She knew it was only because of her company’s success despite her non social-media status. She spotted Jeremy standing with a well-known heiress she knew he had once dated because of the glance he threw at her way which implied that he needed saving from her.
As her smile brightened, she made a move towards them but came close to hitting a figure in front of her. She would have fallen if he had not caught her. She looked up at him and took a step back.
“What now Alexanderʼ she said in a bored tone.
“I want a dance, Seleneʼ he replied which made Selene to look around, registering how crowded the massive ballroom had become. That tipped her mood from anticipation to unbearable. She don't want to dance with him let alone making body contact with him.
“Sorry, but I'm takenʼ she said in a dismissing tone and made to move past him but his hand shot out and held her arm which caused her to draw back her hand immediately causing Alexander to frown—does she really hate him that much?
“Don't touch meʼ she said between clenched teeth.
“Fineʼ he nodded and snapped his teeth, “But Scott is obviously busy with the lady he's talking toʼ
“So?ʼ Selene shrugged
“Don't you see, he's flirting with her!ʼ he almost shouted and Selene was tempted to say 'If only you knew that's the last thing he's doing right now' but instead clutched her hand on her chest and feigned, “Your concern for my heart is touchingʼ
“Scott leaves you here to talk to a woman and you want to go over there to talk to him. Theos! If I were with a beautiful woman like you, I won't leave her alone for a secondʼ
She smiled. A small mocking smile. “Wow! So true except your date is standing in the ballroom alone and wondering, 'why the hell am I being ditched?'
He opened his mouth to speak but Jeremy cut him in, “Excuse me, I have to steal Selene awayʼ He said and Alexandro took a step back letting her see in his eyes that their conversation was far from finished and it also dared her to run as he will find her this time.
Not if I have a say in it. Her eyes seemed to say but she had already left with Scott.
