Adaira’s POV
Allen tossed me into a bedroom and locked the door behind him.
“What the f**k is wrong with you?” he spat. “Do you know the people who were out there?”
A disbelieving scoff slipped from my lips. “That’s all you have to say? I find out that you are f*****g my–”
Suddenly, something occurred to me.
“You knew she was my best friend, didn’t you?”
There was no way an Alpha of his caliber would mate with a woman without investigating her.
I chuckled, stumbling backwards. “Wait a minute. You must have found out about her through me. Was that why you kept me close all this time? To get to Yvonne?”
My eyes darted around his face for any clue that what I was saying was not true. Anything that would tell me that there was still a shred left of the good man he pretended to be.
Allen could not even meet my face.
“Oh.” I laughed but it came out no louder than a whisper. “I am such a fool.”
Suddenly, Allen shut his eyes, his jaw clenching tightly. When he opened them, they were no longer their regular deep brown but now bright amber.
His wolf.
“Mate,” he said, closing the distance between our bodies.
His hands grabbed both my hands and slammed them on the wall behind me, his head bending to capture my lips in a deep kiss.
Tears ran down my cheeks as I tried to shove him off. He was too strong for me, so I settled for biting his lip so hard that it bled.
He hissed, stumbling. I watched in horror as the wound on his lip healed, his grin not fading.
Even his wolf was as twisted as he was.
I made a run for the sliding doors and emerged on a balcony.
Shit. I was not stupid enough to attempt a jump from this height.
Arms wrapped around my body, his tongue licking a stripe from my collarbone to the back of my ear. “You smell delectable,” Allen murmured against my skin.
I pushed back against him. “Get away from me, you beast.”
His face shattered, hurt and disappointment resting on his features. Slowly, his expression morphed into rage. “What did you call me?” he hissed.
The energy radiating off of him was monstrous. He was actually going to kill me.
Before he could touch me, the door slammed open, a frantic Yvonne in the doorway. “Allen, your parents are here.”
Allen instantly snapped back to normal. He swore, adjusting his clothes as he ran out of the room.
I fell into one of the chairs on the balcony, my body trembling.
I was so out of it that I did not know Yvonne had moved towards me until I felt a dagger dig into the side of my stomach. Pain exploded in my abdomen.
“You slut,” Yvonne snarled, an ugly sneer on her face. “How dare you seduce my mate?!”
As she spoke, she twisted the knife, digging it deeper into my body. With the little strength I had left, I shoved her away from me.
“The mate you stole from me.” I coughed blood onto the ground. “Tell me, Yvonne. How much did he pay you to open your legs for him–nngh.”
She kicked me right in the wound. My knees gave way and I crashed to the floor.
“You are a nobody,” she spat, her hand wrapping around my neck and squeezing. “Your mate rejected you because you are a nobody.”
I did not know I had it in me to laugh but the laughter bubbled out anyway.
“We are both nobodies, Yvonne and you know it.”
Yvonne’s breath quickened. “What…what the hell do you mean by that?”
“Those adoption papers,” I wheezed, all the blood loss finally getting to me. “You should really keep them somewhere safe.”
If Allen found out that Yvonne was not of real Alpha bloodline, she was finished.
A calculating look appeared on her face and then, her eyes sharpened. “Take that to your grave.”
Before I could say another word, she pushed me over the balcony. I heard the door open and Allen’s panicked voice screaming my name.
The wind whizzed loudly in my ears as I fell from the thirtieth floor of the building. My tears intensified.
After everything, this was how I died. Pushed to my death by a woman I called my sister.
Just before I hit the floor, something caught me. Not something. Someone.
Sparks exploded through my body, warmth wrapping around me. I subconsciously snugggled into the delicious scent,
His hand slid from my back to the stab wound in the side of my stomach. I jolted, my eyes snapping open. When I saw his face, I let out a small gasp.
“You…how are you…”
“We should first get out of here,” he said, carrying me to a car parked at the edge of the parking lot. Behind us, I could hear panicked screaming and running around.
Inside the car, I turned to him, staring at his face in awe and wonder.
“You look…Allen. You look so much like him.”
The lightheartedness in his eyes vanished. “Do not say that name again.”
Definitely not Allen.
“W-Who are you?” I stuttered.
The man's head tilted.
It was eerie to see Allen's green eyes staring at me with such contempt.
“He never introduced me. Figures.” The lookalike leaned closer to me. “His bloodthirsty twin has always been a touchy subject for him.”
My breath caught in my throat. Of all people to run into.
His hand came down on the back of my neck. “Go to sleep.”
“Alistair Black,” I whispered as my vision blacked.
