Chapter 4

Adaira’s POV The moment we were alone, Alistair pressed me against the wall, his body leaning over me. His lips were an inch away. One of us just needed to tilt our heads and we would meet. “If you do not let go of me, I will kick you in the balls,” I said, no real edge to my voice. Alistair smirked cockily, leaning down to press his lips against mine for the two longest seconds of my life. “Go ahead.” I watched him with wide eyes as he walked away. “Your room is at the end of the hall,” he called out over his shoulder. “Make sure to keep your clothes on. I have a key.” The moment he disappeared from view, I snapped back to reality. “f**k,” I whispered. The level of arousal was but a fraction of whatever I felt for Allen. I had never heard of a person who had two mates, much less twin Alphas as their mates. I dragged my sulking ass to the room at the end of the hall. It was simple. A bed, a drawer and bare walls. The clothes in the closet made me suspicious. Even the underwear was the right size. How could he tell? There was a knock on the door. “Come in,” I called from the closet. A woman stepped in. “Master Alistair said to bring you down for dinner.” I frowned. He saw me an hour ago. Why could he not have told me himself? The woman walked briskly ahead of me. I watched her with lips pursed, thinking. “What is the state of the pack’s succession? Has the heir been named?” There was a pause before she answered. “You are Master Alistair’s lover and you do not know?” I forced a chuckle. It came out dry and awkward. “Pack politics are not exactly romantic, are they?” The woman hummed. “The heir has not been named. Alpha Nolan is still a fine Alpha with many years to live.” Did they make her read that off a flashcard? She brought me to a mahogany door and pointed inside. “Here. He is waiting inside.” I stared at the door blankly for a few seconds. “This does not look like the dining room.” “It is not,” she said. “It is a private meeting room.” I smiled at her before entering the bedroom. It did not surprise me when the door locked behind me. “I guessed it was you who wanted to see me but I did not think you would be so shameless.” Allen’s eyes narrowed. “Alistair isn’t here. You can drop the act.” “What act?” I asked innocently. He closed the distance between us in three long strides. For the second time today, I had a Blackwood pressed up against me. “We are mates. That does not disappear because my brother thinks you are a fun toy to play with.” As if to prove his point, he ducked his head and kissed me. I arched against him, moaning into his mouth. Allen’s grip on my waist tightened and he pressed me tighter against him. We were powerless to resist the mate bond…no. This wasn’t the mate bond. This was something else. I tried to push him off me but my arms felt like jello. “What the hell did you do to me?” I gasped out as he kissed my neck. “Don’t fight it. The drugs do not wear off for an hour. Enough time for me to bury my seed in you.” If I accidentally got pregnant, my fate with Allen was sealed. The back of my eyes burned with tears as he shredded my top. His hand fondled my breasts. “I loved these t**s from the moment I saw them. Always thought of burying my c**k between the–” A shrill sound filled the air, interrupting what he was about to say. Irritation flashed across Allen’s eyes but he decided to ignore the call. The person called again and again. By the fourth time, he picked up and barked into the phone. “What?” There was panicked talking from the other end. I could catch a bit of the conversation and piece it together. “She wants to kill herself?” Allen said, already moving towards the door. Yvonne. Even with the truth staring him in the eyes, he was still too lovestruck not to see that she was playing him like a fiddle. I lowered to the ground as the door slammed behind him. “You seem to need help.” I had not even heard the door open. “Alistair,” I muttered. He walked past me to the incense stick burning in the room. One whiff and his face scrunched. “I told that halfwit to stop muddying with witches. This thing is f*****g disgusting.” Goddess, I was going to kill Allen for putting his hands on me. “I need a T-shirt but I cannot feel my legs.” Alistair stripped easily and put his shirt over my head. He was about to move away when I held him back. “Wait.” “What is it?” “You said that I was your woman in front of everyone in the pack. How far are you willing to go to prove that?” Alistair sat on the floor in front of me and crossed his arms. “Explain.” *** “I have never been used like this.” I slapped his arm. “Stay still, would you? We need to make this believable.” Alistair rolled his eyes. “You know that I could just march into my parents’ office and demand that they wed us, right?” “That would make you a tyrant.” I took off my bra from underneath his shirt and flung it near the door. I needed the Blackwood family to think that I had Alistair’s seed inside of me. Alistair pulled me on top of him, his hand dangerously close to my butt. Our bare chests were separated by his T-shirt on my body. “I think this is better. It really sells the act.” I lost temporary control of my senses and kissed him. As if on cue, the door slammed open, nearly rattling off the hinges. Luna Eden’s face was white as if she had seen a ghost. “Alistair, that is Allen’s mate,” she whispered, her voice hoarse. Alistair’s arm on my waist only tightened, our bare thighs sliding together beneath the bedsheets. “So, what? I should thank him for being so stupid as to let go of her.” I could barely hide my smirk as Allen appeared in the doorway. His eyes blazed with fury as he looked between us. “You slept with my brother?!” Alistair’s hand palmed my butt in front of our audience. I played with his hair as I replied Allen. “How is any of this your business? You don’t get to decide who I have s*x with.” “You are my–” “Yvonne is standing at the door,” I said, looking back to my tiny best friend who had just arrived on the scene. She looked first at me, then at my bare legs and then at Alistair lounging back on the tussled bed without a care in the world. “Adaira, how could you–” “Should I have kept you a turn? You seem to have a thing for whoring after my men.” The murmuring was so loud that it was drawing more and more people. Alistair’s smirk only grew as he watched his brother’s face twist in a mix of frustration, panic and anger. It did not take long for the Alpha himself to arrive. He looked between the four of us, quickly getting the gist of the situation. His jaw clenched. “Come with me.” The tension in Nolan’s office was so tense you could cut it with a knife. Yet Alistair found a way to eat comfortably. Nolan’s eyes narrowed at his second son. “What happened?” “Nothing. For some reason, my big brother here seems to be upset that I slept with my woman.” “She is not–” Yvonne tugged on Allen’s sleeve, her lips curled down in discomfort. “Your woman?!” Eden asked. “You know that Adaira is Allen’s mate!” I turned to Allen. “There seems to be a woman on his arm and she is not me.” Eden’s eyes flashed in anger. “If you cared for him even a little, you would understand why he chose Yvonne to be his Luna.” The self-righteousness was sickening. “That’s the thing, Luna. I do not care for him. And he has proved that he does not care for me,” I said calmly. “Am I wrong, Allen?” If he said yes, he would be denying Yvonne to her face. If he said no, he lost all grounds to try to claim me. “It’s not that simple–” Alistair stood up abruptly, knocking back his chair. Everyone in the room flinched. “Yes, it is, brother.” His voice lowered an octave. “You stay away from my woman and we are good.” “You two barely know each other–” Alistair shut him up with a line that sucked the air out of the room. “Adaira is my mate.”
