Chapter 1
DARCY
The ding sound of the electronic lock rang through the room as he pushed the door open.
Our place was dense with the fragrance of roses. Cool midnight jazz playing on the stereo.
My breath caught the instant I heard that sound.
‘He is here. I have to get ready for him.’
I rose from the couch and staggered through the sitting room floor in my black lingerie. Hair tousled and lips bright red. I couldn't explain how I felt tonight. Perhaps it was the bashful excitement of roleplaying that made me feel tense or it was the side effects of the alcohol.
I threw myself on the bed and turned off the lights. David and I had it all planned out. I would play a drunk hooker and he would be my secret lover.
I heard his footsteps in the room. My eyes opened, peering into the dim. Although the light of the moon illuminated the room, I couldn't see clearly. Everything was hazy. I could sense him hover over me and lean close but I couldn't make out what he looked like tonight.
His arms wrapped around my waist and his muscles flexed as he pulled my body to him, his bare chest rubbing against my n*****s.
His abs rippled at my touch and his muscles tightened, he was more sensitive than I had known him to be. He wore a Estelle musk cologne, I always loved this brand but he never chose it. Tonight must be so special to him.
I blushed at the thought of that. I would make sure David didn't regret doing this for me. I let my hands wander through his hair and pulled his face down to my chest.
He whimpered before his lips curled around my n*****s. “Damn you whore.”
I furrowed my brow. ‘Why does he sound like that?’
My eyes trailed around, attempting to look at him. There was something about the wine I drank. I was completely overwhelmed by the burning desire of passion, I couldn't think anymore.
He was already ripping away my clothes. All my suspicions went up in smoke as I gave in to him and the bed creaked all night to the weight of our intense love making.
I woke up with the worst hangover I had ever had, a sore back and a grin tugging on my lips. Forget the pain, last night was amazing.
The splatter of water on the bathroom floor drew my attention. I sat up with difficulty, looking towards the door. David walked out, a small towel around his waist.
I eyed him, my pulse suddenly quickened as the sensation of his touch ripped through my skin.
“Hey baby.” I whispered, biting my lip seductively.
“You are up.” He walked to the closet, not sparing me a glance.
“Mhmm. I really enjoyed it last night.” I said, sliding off the bed, to meet him. I wrapped my arms around him. He adjusted, a bit like he was uncomfortable.
I brushed off the thought. It must be that hangover because David loved it last night.
“Yeah me too.” He said, his tone a bit hastened.
“The cruise will be over soon. We need to pack up.” He slipped out of my grip, almost impatient to stay. I watched him, put on his clothes. A strange feeling gawned at my heart, making me have an easy twist in my gut.
‘No… I am over thinking. Nothing is wrong.’ I waved it off.
**********
A MONTH LATER
It was raining when I returned home. Hugging my purse tight so nothing would mess up the medical report. I made David's favorite and waited until he finished his meal to break the news.
Excitement made my heart beat faster as I placed the papers on the table. He eyed me.
“Spill it. I know this meal wasn't some good will. How much do you need?”
“No… no. It's not it at all. Something good happened.” I said, biting down on my lip like a child. He took the report from me and unsealed it scanning though.
I began a silent countdown in my mind. He would make an outburst of joy in three… two… on…
“You are pregnant?!”
His voice sent shockwaves running through me. I flinched immediately, too stunned to move. My eyes wide staring at him. Surprise and fear written all over it.
“How long have you been hiding this?” He queried. His gaze was dark and pensive.
“Just today… but baby something is wrong?”
My heart was suddenly beating fast. His reaction sent cold shivers creeping up my spine.
“What's wrong?” He scoffed, getting off the chair. His smile had a mix of mockery and suppressed anger. The room seemed to get darker, fear curling around my lungs until It felt like I was suffocating.
David turned to me. “Darcy, how did you get pregnant?”
I furrowed my brow. There was a sudden urge to laugh but I knew nothing about this was funny. I managed to exasperate.
“What sort of question is that? It's our baby. You put it there.” I tried to smile but the bitter feeling in my heart made it suddenly so hard. I held the table firmly, to hide the tremors this was giving me.
“When Darcy? When?” He clenched his teeth and glared at me. “Honestly, I can't believe you are sitting there and pretending as if you haven't done anything wrong.”
“David.” I left my seat, coming a little closer. I held his gaze.
“David, you are not making any sense. I know we haven't had any i*********e since we came back from the cruise but it doesn't mean anything. The pregnancy is a month old which means I took in not long after we came back.”
My voice was firm but within me, I was fidgeting like a wet child.
After that night on the cruise ship, he never touched me again. He never spoke of it even when I praised him about how hard we went that night. It only pissed him off in fact. His attitude made me suspect something was wrong but I ignored them. I mean, I slept with David that night. Nothing else can be wrong, Right?
My reverie only made my stomach twist tighter.
David stared right into my eyes. His face did not hide that he was seething with anger and I didn't know why. He made that smile again and then he said.
“I drank too much that night. I woke up on a couch in the bar. I didn't meet you that night.”
My eyes grew wider. For a second, the world seemed to shatter. His words pierced my heart like a dagger. Shock hit me, my knees threatening to buckle beneath me.
Tears pooled in my eyes. I winced them back, immediately.
‘This isn't…. No, it’s not true.’
