Liora Hale thought heartbreak would feel loud, but it arrives in a quiet punch. She catches her fiancé tangled with another woman on the night she planned to celebrate their engagement. Humiliated and raw, she ends up in a secluded rooftop bar where the city lights feel too bright for her mood.

There she crosses paths with Cassian Voss, the man people fear, the billionaire who owns half the skyline and freezes a room by walking into it. He never lets anyone close, and he never repeats a night.

But something about Liora’s shattered calm pulls him in. One night breaks every rule he made for himself.

By morning, she is gone without a trace.

By afternoon, he learns she was never supposed to matter.

By evening, he becomes the one searching.

And when he finds her, the truth she carries threatens to ruin them both.

Some nights change everything. Some men do not let go.

Chapter-one:The Night Everything Broke
Liora Hale knew something was wrong the moment she opened the door to the apartment. The place felt too quiet, too staged, like a scene waiting for the audience to catch up. She had meant to surprise Kael with a small celebration. Nothing dramatic. A cake from the shop he liked, her sketchbook under her arm, and the silly card she picked up earlier that said his smile made life easier. It sounded childish now, but it had made her grin at the store. She placed the cake on the counter and called his name. The first time, her voice carried lightly. The second time, it cracked. Kael did not answer. Instead, she heard the faint rhythm of laughter drifting from the hallway. A soft giggle that did not belong to her. Her stomach dropped before her mind could fully catch up. She moved toward the sound, each step slower than the last, as if her body tried to delay the truth. The door to their bedroom was slightly open. Light spilled out in a warm, golden stripe across the wooden floor. She stood there for a second, holding her breath, clinging to a small, useless hope that she misunderstood the situation. Then the giggle came again. She pushed the door, and the world split open. Kael was in bed with another woman. No confusion. No misinterpretation. Their clothes scattered across the floor. His hands on someone else. Her voice rose in a gasp when she noticed Liora, but Kael simply froze with a look that did not carry shame. It was annoyance. As if she inconvenienced him. The room blurred. Liora stood there with the card still in her hand, feeling like a fool. Something inside her cracked quietly, the way glass breaks under pressure. No scream came out. No dramatic line. Just silence. Kael finally spoke. "Liora, I can explain." She dropped the card on the floor. The woman in his bed shifted and pulled the sheets higher. Liora turned around and left. She heard him call her name again, but she kept walking. The cake, the card, the plans, the future she thought she was building, it all felt stupid now. By the time she reached the street, her eyes burned. She did not want to cry where people could see her, yet her vision blurred anyway. The night breeze hit her face, cooling the embarrassment that clung to her skin. She reached into her pocket and pulled out her phone. Her fingers shook as she dialed Marin Kade. "Liora? What happened?" Liora could not form the words. Her breath snagged. Marin instantly understood the kind of silence she heard. "Sweetheart, go somewhere safe. You want to come to my place?" Liora looked around. She could not go home. She could not sit on Marin’s couch and talk about pain while she still felt it tearing through her chest. "I need air," Liora finally whispered. "Then go to the rooftop bar near the coast. The one with the blue lights. It is quiet. Text me when you get there." Liora slipped her phone into her pocket and walked. Her steps felt automatic. Her heart felt like a heavy stone, settling deeper with each moment. The bar sat on the top floor of the Solaris Tower, a tall building wrapped in dark glass. It was known for its calm atmosphere, high view, and expensive drinks. Liora did not care about the cost tonight. She needed space from everything, including her own thoughts. She took the elevator to the top and stepped into a place that looked carved from shadows and soft lights. The city stretched before her through open glass walls. Music drifted lightly, not loud enough to force anything, just enough to fill the silence. Only a handful of people occupied the place, scattered across corners. Her gaze drifted past them until it landed on one man who stood alone near the railing, drinking from a short glass filled with amber liquid. Even from a distance, something about him pulled her attention. Cassian Voss. She recognized him instantly. Everyone did. His face appeared in business magazines and news articles. People talked about him the way children whispered about a figure in a cautionary story. His power felt like a shadow stretching farther than the eye could measure. People called him cold, untouchable, and dangerous. The kind of man who did not need to raise his voice to make others obey. He had built an empire with patience and a mind sharper than steel. Tonight, he stood completely still, watching the city like he was deciding something about it. He wore a dark suit that fit him too perfectly for coincidence. His expression held no softness. There was only a calm that came from complete control. Liora tore her eyes away, embarrassed that she even noticed him. She moved to the far end of the bar and ordered a drink she barely tasted. Her fingers trembled around the glass. The scene she had witnessed replayed in her mind until she felt sick. She blinked fast, willing her tears back. She did not want to cry here. Not in front of strangers. Yet one tear escaped, slipping down her cheek before she caught it. She groaned softly and wiped it away, but the movement must have been too sharp because it caught someone’s attention. A low voice spoke behind her. "Are you alright?" Liora turned and found Cassian standing a few feet away. He was taller up close, and his presence made the air feel heavier. His eyes held a focused calm that felt like it could cut through any lie. "I am fine," Liora said quickly, even though her face probably betrayed her. He did not look convinced. "You look like someone who should not be alone tonight." The words were simple, not flirtatious, not gentle. Only honest. His voice carried a quiet authority that made her breath hitch. She swallowed. "It has been a long day." "Long enough to make you cry in a bar," he replied. The truth of it stung, but his tone lacked judgment. He stepped closer, leaving enough distance to show he was not trying to trap her. Still, he felt like a force, steady and unshakable. Liora looked away. "I do not want to talk about it." "Then do not talk," he said. "Just breathe. Sit with me." She hesitated, unsure why she felt drawn to him. Maybe it was the exhaustion. Maybe it was the ache in her chest. Maybe it was the fact that he looked like a man who understood broken edges. She nodded. He guided her to a quieter corner with a view of the city. They sat without speaking. The silence felt strangely comforting. Cassian drank slowly, but his eyes kept drifting to her, studying her with a steady curiosity. After a while, he spoke again. "Someone hurt you." She tensed. "Does it matter?" "It matters to you," he said. The way he said it made her throat tighten. His attention felt intense but not invasive. She felt seen in a way she had not expected. She exhaled slowly. "My fiancé," she murmured. "I found him with someone else tonight." Cassian’s face did not show sympathy, but something shifted in his eyes. "He is a fool." Liora let out a small bitter laugh. "That makes two of us." "You are not a fool," he said. "You trusted someone who failed you. That fault is his." The words steadied her more than she wanted to admit. She studied him. "You give comfort differently." "I do not give comfort," he said. "I speak the truth." Their eyes held for a moment too long, and something electric passed through her. A pull. A need she did not want to name. She looked away, breathing unevenly. Cassian leaned toward her just enough to speak softly. "You should let this night be yours. No pain. No apologies." Something in her chest gave way. She whispered, almost afraid of the answer, "What does that mean?" "It means that if you want escape, I can give you that. If you want to forget, even for a few hours, I can help you do it." The air between them changed. Heat curled slowly under her skin. She felt his presence like a tide drawing her in. "I do not know your name," he said, voice low. "Liora." His gaze softened by a fraction. "Liora," he repeated, as if testing the sound. "Come with me." She stood before she decided to. He rose as well, towering, composed, and strangely protective. He took her hand, and the contact sent a pulse through her. He led her toward the private elevator to the hotel above the bar. Her heart raced as the doors closed behind them. She knew this was reckless. She knew tomorrow would catch up with her. But tonight, she wanted to feel something other than betrayal. Cassian stepped closer, and she felt the warmth of his breath. "Last chance to walk away." She whispered, "I do not want to." The elevator doors opened to a quiet hallway lined with soft lights. He guided her toward his suite, opened the door, and the moment it clicked shut, the world narrowed to the space between them. What happened next was not rushed. It was a slow unraveling. A night that did not feel like escape but discovery. A night she would remember even if she never saw him again. Except Cassian Voss was not the kind of man to forget. And by the next morning, when she slipped out of his bed, collected her shoes, and quietly left before he woke, she did not know one simple fact. She did not know that something tiny and life changing had already settled inside her. She did not know that Cassian Voss would come looking for her.
