About characters : Aira: Aira is independent, intelligent, and confident. She's drawn to Tariq despite their complicated past but is hesitant to marry him due to her childhood connection with his younger brother. She values family but struggles with their expectations. Tariq: Ambitious and pragmatic, Tariq is reluctant to marry Aira, seeing it as an obligation rather than a choice. Over time, he begins to appreciate her strength and independence, challenging his previous beliefs about love and marriage. Zayd: The carefree younger brother of Tariq, Zayd is close to Aira and always supportive. He enjoys life’s lighter side . Rooh: Aira's best friend, Rooh is energetic, protective, and always there for her. It's multi couple story. _________ Chapter 1: The Wedding That Wasn’t The wedding hall was alive with the sound of chatter and laughter, the air thick with the scent of jasmine and rosewater. Guests milled about, sipping sweetened chai and gossiping, their voices rising and falling like the melody of a well-rehearsed tune. Yet, in the midst of it all, Aira sat alone in her bridal chamber, fidgeting with the edges of her red lehenga. Her reflection in the mirror showed a perfect picture of a bride, yet beneath the layers of bridal beauty, her heart was anything but calm. She smiled faintly at her reflection, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes. It never did. Not today, and not for the past few days. Not since Zayd had begun pulling away, becoming distant, almost like a stranger. And now, on the day of her wedding, he wasn’t even here. Outside the chamber, Tariq paced anxiously by the entrance, checking his watch for the tenth time. His face was tight with frustration, his mind a whirlwind of confusion. Zayd had been acting strangely for days, and now, on the wedding day, he had completely disappeared. "Where the hell is Zayd?" Tariq muttered to himself, his impatience clear as he tapped his foot, glancing back at the door every few seconds. His father, the patriarch of the family, approached him with his usual air of authority, his silver beard giving him an even more imposing presence. His eyes, sharp and critical, fixed on his son. "Tariq, what’s going on?" his father demanded, his voice a mixture of irritation and concern. "The maulvi is waiting, the guests are waiting, and Zayd is still not here. What’s the delay?" Tariq forced a smile, though it didn’t reach his eyes. "I’ve been calling him, Abba. His phone’s off. I don’t know where he is." His father’s patience was running thin. "Get him here. Now," he snapped. "We cannot have this wedding fail. Do you understand? Our family’s name is on the line. Aira’s family is depending on us. We can’t ruin this." Tariq’s stomach churned. He had always been the one to clean up after Zayd’s messes, and now, on the day of this wedding, it was no different. Zayd had promised to marry Aira, but Tariq knew, deep down, that his brother wasn’t really invested. He never had been. Zayd had agreed to the marriage out of duty to the family, and now, Tariq was expected to carry the burden. Just then, Zayd’s best friend entered, looking frantic. He handed a crumpled note to Tariq, his hands shaking. "I’m sorry, I can’t do this. I don’t love Aira. I’ll explain later." Tariq’s heart stopped. He stared at the note, disbelief spreading across his face. Zayd had just backed out of the wedding. He was gone, leaving Tariq to clean up the mess. His father’s face turned beet red with rage. "What is this nonsense? Where is Zayd? Why would he do this? To us? To Aira’s family? To her?" Tariq ran a hand through his hair, trying to steady himself. "I don’t know, Abba. But we need to find him. This is… this can’t be happening." His father’s nostrils flared, and he turned to the family gathered nearby. His voice was harsh, commanding. "This is a disaster! This wedding cannot fail. If Zayd won’t marry Aira, then Tariq will step in." The room fell into stunned silence. Tariq’s eyes widened. "What? You want me to marry her? Right now?" His father’s expression darkened, his voice lowering, almost cold. "What’s wrong with you, Tariq? Do you think this family’s reputation is a joke? Aira’s family has trusted us. They’ve been loyal. We can’t back out now, not after everything. You’ll marry her today, for the sake of the family. If you don’t, there will be consequences." Tariq’s fists clenched. "So, you’re asking me to marry her… not for love, not because I want to, but because of some damn family obligation?" His voice was tight with anger. "Yes," his father replied, his gaze unwavering. "Because that’s what matters now. We’ve worked too hard to let this fall apart. You’ll marry her, Tariq. Today. Do you understand?" Tariq looked over at Aira’s side of the hall. She was sitting, her hands fidgeting nervously with the edge of her dupatta, glancing at the door every few seconds. But then it hit him, a sinking feeling in his chest. Aira knew. She had known this was coming, and in a way, she was relieved. For years, she had been pretending to be excited for the wedding, but deep down, she had always known that this marriage wasn’t born out of love. She wasn’t marrying Zayd because she loved him, and Zayd wasn’t marrying her for the same reason. It was all a family arrangement, a duty, and a commitment neither of them had ever wanted. She had been waiting for this moment all along, the moment when Tariq would step in. And now, her childhood friend was standing in front of her, not as the man she had imagined, but as a replacement. A duty-bound groom. Tariq stormed toward the stage, his emotions a tangled mess. He could feel the weight of his father’s expectations pressing down on him, suffocating him. The maulvi stood there, his eyes flicking nervously between the two families, unsure of what was happening. "I’m ready," Tariq muttered, his voice flat, as he approached the dais. He stood there for a moment, his eyes meeting Aira’s. She looked back at him, her face soft but with a hint of something he couldn’t quite place. Triumph, perhaps? Or maybe relief. But there was no happiness in her eyes, not the way a bride should be. No love, no excitement. Just resignation. He turned to the maulvi, his voice barely above a whisper. "Let’s do this." Aira’s father watched the exchange from the side, his expression unreadable. Then Aira’s mother, tears in her eyes, spoke up, her voice trembling with emotion. "Our families have always been bound by love and respect. Today, that bond grows stronger." Aira forced a smile, her heart heavy. She knew this moment would come. She had always known that her marriage to Zayd wasn’t about love, but about family duty. And now, here she was, standing next to Tariq, knowing that this was the life she would have to accept. The wedding rituals began, but Tariq’s mind was elsewhere. His thoughts were consumed by the way Aira was looking at him, her eyes betraying a mix of emotions that he couldn’t fully understand. As the final words of the nikah were spoken, Tariq felt an overwhelming sense of finality. Aira’s family cheered, her mother crying tears of joy, her father offering a small, proud smile. But Tariq felt nothing. No joy, no satisfaction. He was trapped in a situation he had never wanted, forced to fulfill a role that was never his to begin with. And as Aira looked at him, Tariq realized something that made his stomach drop. This wasn’t just about family duty anymore. Aira had won. She had gotten what she wanted all along. And now, it was too late for either of them to back out.
